smbfs makes other processes hang
Hi! I have some problem with samba. The problem concerns the smbfs kernel module and smbmount. Smbfs makes other processes "hang". The only thing to do is to reboot the computer, not even "Kill -9" works. I use a Linux system with the Redhat 7.2 distribution. It runs on a AMD 500 K6-2 processor with a memory of 192MB. The kernel is an unmodified 2.4.9-31 from Redhat. I have

How-to-rotate-plot-title
I wonder whether it is possible to rotate the title of the barplot on the top right corner of the attached layout. It would be more readable if the whole string were rotated by 180 degrees (mirrored). Thank you very much. Follow-up: how can I read a non-standard XLS file
I am uploading 2 XLS-similar files to server www.alice.it. I expect many people in this mailing list won't understand the instructions for grabbing the files because of the different language (sorry I do not have control on that. Telecom has). But it's really very simple. The message you receive will contain a wet site address which should even appear highlighted (on my computer it

Any way to do Linux User home directories via Samba
All of our user authentication is done via LDAP. We have an all Linux backend and tons of windows desktops. We've just started getting a few people to move to Linux on the desktop. Is there any way that I can have their home directory automatically mounted via Samba when they log in? Thanks, Jason Joines Open Source = Open Mind ========================

copying from Win to Linux
Hi, I'm about to migrate a lot of files from a windows server to a new, shiny samba-server. I just got a small problem : What is the best way to do this? I'e tried rsync, but it croaks on some files with names like "somethign :some.eml" the same does cp. What I'm wondering about, is has anyone else had these problems, and if so, how did you solve them? Do you have a

File sharing is ok, but new ADS user validation is not ok
We have Samba 3.2.4 on two SLES 10 (one is SP1, the other SP2 64bit) machines. Both are member servers in our ADS, which was over the past month given some additional DCs, new IPs for all DCs, and upgraded to Windows 2008 (from win2003). The krb5.conf and nsswitch.conf files on the two machines are identical; the smb.conf files are *nearly* identical in their common section; the filewall rules

Diablo 3 - Perfomance was ok but it's not anymore.
Hello all, When i finally managed to run Diablo3 game thru wine, it was working perfect. No stuttering at all. I've finished the Diablo3 on normal level and now i'm playing it again on nightmare level - but i doubt that's releated to my problem. Since few days when i run diablo via wine i get incredible stuttering, the game is nearly unplayable but _nothing_ changed in wine's

minor Vorbis specification amendment proposal
Hi Vorbis has 3 "global" header packets, while generic containers generally have only a single global header per stream my proposal to solve this, would be to add a few lines to the vorbis specification to clarify how to convert between the 3 headers and the single header needed for non ogg containers currently (without any standarized way) various groups simply use their own

help, glusterfs test caused very high tcp segment retransmission rate
Hi, I found the aggregated IO speed is only about 100MB/s on 4 Giga-bit Brick. This test is done over 12 computing nodes with command dd if=/dev/zero of=bar bs=1048576 count=20480. Because our brick has very fast local IO speed, the problem could be network. Then I found computing nodes got too many retransmited segments during test according to netstat -st. The retransmission ratio is

I''ve got shorewall installed on Mandrake 9.0 As I boot my computer ( single workstation ) I do not get any connection to the net before doing; shorewall stop, shorewall clear, shorewall restart. Only after giving those three instructions everything is normal. Is there an easy way fixing this ? Or else how can I prevent shorewall starting-up at boot, in order to start it manualy once the

dhcpd options
A few weeks ago, suddenly, reading news at lunch, I could not get to nytimes.com. I could ping it, and nslookup it, and if I put the IP address in place of the name, it was fine. After *much* back and forth over a ticket I put in, over the last week or so, our group figured it out: It *seemed* to be related to IPv6, and there's only *some* few sites, such as the Times, and Orbits, and one or

Index Corruption xBase database
Hello, I've been working with a xBase database (similar to dBase) in a multiuser application. There are like 40 users working on the database on the same time reading and like 10 writing information. Sometimes the CDX files (Index Files) get corrupted and is it's necessary to pack the tables (rebuild the indexes). I have notice using the smbstatus -B command the following Pid

Response time on Tinc VPNs, Bandwith on Tinc-VPN
Hello, response time: how is it possible to increase the response time on Tinc VPNs. When I use tinc over a fast or giga-bit network connection the ping-response time is normally about 1800 to 2000 ms. Sometimes I get ping response times at about 2.500 to 3.000 ms over a normal Ethernet Connection or a television-cable connection within the same providers-network in the same city. The ping-time

AHCI and VT-d related problem
Hello, I have an issue with my XEN system. I suspect that it might be a bug, but I''m no linux expert, so I don''t know. Here is my problem: I have an ASUS P7P55D-E Premium motherboard, and a Western Digital Caviar Black SATA-III 1TB hdd. I am trying to use AHCI. The dom0 is an Arch Linux. The dom0 boots fine until Intel VT-d is enabled in the BIOS. When I enable it Arch
