Unless told otherwise, rsync uses rsh to contact the remote system.=20
Another popular option is ssh. Both of these protocols use the logged-in=20
username, unless specified otherwise. What rsync really does is "rsh=20
remotehost rsync --server-and-other-undocumented-options". If you can't=20
"rsh server rsync --version", rsync won't work with rsh. Same with ssh. I

vectorizing a function
Dear R-xperts
I have just written a little hypergeometric function, included below
[the hypergeometric function crops up when solving a common type of
ODE].
It works fine on single values of the primary argument z, but
vectorizing it is getting confusing.
The best I have come up with so far just tests for z being longer than
1 and if so, uses sapply() recursively. This is fine, except that it

IOwaits over NFS
Hello.
We have a number of Xen 3.4.2. boxes which have constant iowaits at around
10% with spikes up to 100% when accessing data over NFS. We have been
unable to nail down the issue. Any advice?

plot pch
Dear xpeRts,
I would like to ask a question about plotting in R.
I have four columns in which first column contains x-coordinate and second column contains y-coordinate of certain points, whereas the third column "z" contains classification number of those points from 1 to 4, it should be noted that this column doesn't quantify anything, but just classify the points. More precisely

logging on client side on NT
Hi,
I would like to log whatever happens with rsync on client side when it runs
with Cygwin on NT4.
First, I just did a redirect of the screen output to a log-file:
rsync -rtv --delete --modify-window=2 --stats /cygdrive/g/users/bco/test/
bee2bs01::d/test/ >>c:\rsync\log\%FDATE%.log
The problem with this method is that it does not redirect whatever Rsync
reports as errors; because they

rspec_todo -- spec''ing backwards
While the spirit of BDD is to spec first and code second, many of us
have legacy code. Worse, some of us have legacy code without very
good coverage. Recognizing that *I* have such code, I created a
script that grinds through your .rb files and creates placeholder
specs for each public method.
While it is more sensible to spec behavior of code function than of
individual methods, this

Rails with postgres-oids?
Hello!
Postgres supports oids which is a unique number for any row in a given
database. There is the ''id'' already inside oids - wouldnt it be nice and
handy to turn on some global environemt.rb or database.yaml magic-switch
and rails uses the oids internally and transparently on the postgresql
adapter, sparing people the need to create auto-increment-serial ids

Cleaning out wine for bricscad afresh
I have decided that the best course of action for me to get BricsCAD
running on my system ( Mandriva2005LE - essentials updated ) is to clean
my system of wine and start afresh.
I have uninstalled wine and associated programs ( crossXover - winetools
- xwine ) but upon updating my database ( slocate -u ) I still see heaps
of entries for wine.
eg.
/usr/local/lib/wine
