Samba3 to samba4 migration
Hi,
I'm testing samba 4 in my organization. I have a samba3 domain with LDAP backend. I'm trying migrate workstations and users
from old samba to samba4. Is this possible?
Thanks,

AIX 5.2 / ACL support
Hello,
I am testing the ACL support on AIX, and I have some results I do not
understand.
Config : AIX 5.2, samba 3.0.2a, compiled with gcc 2.9
and --with-acl-support.
I create a share test :
[test]
path = /usr/tests/testpartage
read only = No
inherit permissions = Yes
inherit acls = YesOn Unix side, I put the ACLs :attributes:base permissions
owner(test): rwx group(testtoto): rwx

conditional autoconf for AIX - LOGIN_NEEDS_UTMPX
Hi,
Just reporting our findings from a little problem a colleague and I
discovered with the autoconf rules.
Platform AIX-4.3.3, any RML
OpenSSH versions: all from the latest release back to 3.4, identical
symptoms for each version. This includes the Bull releases and building
from the tarballs. I'm not sure exactly where between 3.0 and 3.4 it was
introduced but the rest of the facts

ACL in Linux and AIX
Hi,
As I can see in the last mailing list I am not the only one to get problems
with ACL support in Linux.
Whatever the samba version (2.2.4, 2.2.5) the main problem is how acl and
extended attributes can be implemented fine in linux.
I've installed samba on AIX systems where acl is implemented (native) and NT
ACL works fine at each time (the only difficulty there is that nsswitch is

R-devel, autotools and libtool
Hello all,
I have spent the last week going through the configure/configure.ac
file, basically line-by-line.
I am finding things related to AIX that have not been working well
(i.e., cleanly) for 32-bit builds and are a "root-cause" for 64-bit
builds to finish cleanly.
Trying to keep this short - you can also just skip to end to see my
question!
With regard to AIX, there is a lot

AIX and 2.1.1p1
The new login code works fine with AIX 4.3. Two nits, though. If
--disable-lastlog is defined, the code still tries to slog through wtmp
to determine the last login time. Is this a bug or a feature? If a
feature, change the DISABLE_LASTLOG test below to WITH_AIXAUTHENTICATE.
Also, a small typo in configure.in, plus an AIX tweak.

Natural vs National in R signon banner?
Just leave it, I think. Some nations have 4 national languages (as Martin will know), some languages are not national, and adopted children often do not speak their native (=born) language... I suspect someone already put a substantial amount of thought into the terminology.

next to no frils smb.conf pointing to an existing LDAP on AIX 5.3
Hello all.
Talking about Samba 3.0.28 on AIX 5.3.0.0. I am new to Samba, new to LDAP.
I got a "no frills" config running.
My goal : have a "no frills" + "authenticating against an existing already running LDAP server" config. I imagine I could get my samba server to authenticate against this LDAP Server. "Just point Samba at this LDAP, and that's it !"

authentication from win2k DC
Hi,
I've followed the instructions in the chapter 8 of the documentation to
connect my AIX 4.3.3 machine with Samba 2.2.8.1 (taken from bull as
binary for AIX).
The server is in the domain now, but the domain users can't log on to
the samba server. The first problem in the log file is:
[2003/07/08 18:00:46, 0] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1558)

Samba/Winbind 3.4.4 on AIX 5.3 TL 10 does not retrieve ANY User's Secondary Groups
Hi folks !
Has someone any idea on this issue on AIX 5.3 TL 10 with winbind ?
I'm really stuck now ...
I think everything is working pretty well with WINBIND and AD 2k3 ,
but not my most important point : I absolutely need the Secondary groups of
each AD user which get connected to the AIX to use this filter with sudo...
I only get Primary Group (which is by default "Domain Users"

Natural vs National in R signon banner?
The way it's phrased now makes it seem that English is not a Natural
language ("Natural language support *but* running in an English locale").
Why not just state: "running in an English locale" and leave it with that?
Better to leave something out than to be unclear (being correct formally
does not always mean being clear to all users).

About setpcred() and chroot()
Hi,
I need to use sftp-only accounts, chroot()ed in their home dirs, on AIX 5.3
with OpenSSH_5.2p1.
But there is a problem with the chroot() call.
In the do_setusercontext() function, chroot() is called after the setpcred()
(only AIX is concerned by the setpcred() call), so privileges are already
dropped when chroot() is called.
When not calling setpcred(), the chroot() does not fail and the

AIX KRB5CCNAME problem
I believe there is a bug in how AIX handles the KRB5CCNAME environment
variable. The symptom occurs when a root user restarts sshd while they
have KRB5CCNAME set; all of the resulting client connections will inherit
the same KRB5CCNAME variable. This can occur if the admin uses 'ksu' or
some other kerberized method of obtaining root privileges.
Investigating this problem, I stumbled

AW: authentication from win2k DC
I've added it in the way as described in 2.

I don't know what kind of account has the machine in the win2k domain - as I said I don't have any direct
