domain/WINS problem
Hello,
Concerning my problem with not being able to connect to our domain with our
Samba clients, there is a further piece of evidence in my samba.log, and
I'm hoping that someone who is more experienced in dealing with WINS and
domains can clarify the nature of these messages from the log:

WINS Server TIme out registering IP
I am seeing the following messages logged every 20 min on a Centos 5.5
Samba 3.5.7 (SerNet RPMs) PDC.
wins server = yes is set and the 172.17.1.50 address is the address of
the PDC. From a Windows client perspective the the domain is
functioning as expected. There is a Samba BDC and mulitple Win2008 R2
member servers in the domain.
Are they anything to be concerned about?

WINS server 127.0.0.1 timed out registering IP
Hi all.
After set up a BDC, I found a weird problem on my log.nmbd file, the case is that my nmb (on BDC) is not able to connect to the local wins "server", just receive a time out .
I set the wins support = yes which is the only mandatory parameter according to samba doc.
I tried to shut down the firewall even.
The log output is:

Win2k/Samba3 issue
Hello,
I said earlier that out big Samba problem appeared to be completely
resolved after I finally made sure to get a clean install of Samba 3 and
ensured that the daemons were being started up properly. However, that was
before I checked on our win2K clients! We have an odd little problem here,
in that all of our WinXP clients can connect to any of our Samba shares
without any problem,

Hi,
here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel,

Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast

name_query failed to find name xyz
Why is that so? How to fix this?
When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

Browsing 3.0.2 from Windows 2000 domain
Hi,
I'm trying to make a linux file server that is browseable from a windows
2000 domain, via authentication from a windows 2000 server. Ultimately, I
want to be able to control permissions on the samba shares using Windows
2000 Server Manager. Something like:

Samba BDC rejected or stuck waiting
Hello all,
First, I am new to Samba so maybe I will made some mistakes in my
interpretation, so be cool.
since an migration from my BDC NOVA (from linux to FreeBSD, which also
upgraded Samba), my BDC can't remain BDC more that a couple of days. The
network it is in is a class-B heterogene network (both linux and

Samba Authentication with a windows password server
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up Samba on a client's computer so that it authenticates
the users which are accessing it via a windows domain controller and
kerberos. I've been following various tutorials and it all seems to go
through correctly but when the client tries to access the shares, it doesn't
accept his credentials and won't get past the login window.

smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3.
I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :)

rejected our name registration of WORKGROUP<1d> with error code 6
Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share
in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a
PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the
howto:
http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml
The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they
do not see the samba server in nethood, though
