current master browser = UNKNOWN / failing WINS test #1 on 3.0.23c
I am having trouble with one of my samba PDC's. It does not recognize
itself as the domain master browser even though it is set to be so. I
can not add machines to this domain and I suspect this is why. Has
anybody seen this or know what causes it? Notice this:
DOMAIN_ALBANY(3) current master browser = ALBANY_PDC
DOMAIN_NYC(2) current master browser = NYC_PDC

Can join domain; can't logon
I had a problem similar to my current one a week or so ago, and I was
encouraged to upgrade from Samba 2.2.9 to 3.0.7, which I did. Now
that I've completed that nightmare, the problem I initially set out to
fix is still there, just different. Namely:
I am trying to set up Samba 3.0.7 on a SuSE 9.1 box as an LDAP PDC
whose only job will be authentication. Our LDAP server is on a

login from XP
Hello,
I'm having a problem logging in to the Samba domain from an XP machine. The machine is added to the domain but after reboot I can't login. I've done the signorseal registry hack but I'm still not able to login. The error I get when logging in is this:
"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or

Win2k Domain logons
Hi everyone. I just got a copy of Win2k in and have been messing with it.
Have a question, and have searched the archives for the answer, but didn't
find it. Can Win2k domain logon to a pre-3.0.0 samba server? Or di I
need to get TNG running? I can get NT4.0 boxes to authenticate and login
fine (Samba pre-3.0.0), but Win2k keeps complaining:

Hi people, sorry for the previous HTML stuff, I hope this time it's plain
text. Here's my problem:
I'm not sure if this is a samba/solaris problem or a Win98 problem and I'll
tell you why. I have a Solaris 8 server running samba 2.2.2, a linux/samba
2.0.7 box and a couple Win 98 boxes. When I did a complete restore of my
Win98 box from tape, I could no longer access the Solaris

Trouble Creating Folders
Greetings,
I am running 2.2.7a as a domain controller on RH 8.0
When I attempt to create a folder I get the following
"warning"
"You may not be able to access the files created in
the folder .... Do you want to continue?"
If I continue everything goes file (the folder is
created and I can access it). I find a file in there
called TESTDIR.TMP. I thought it may have been a

Samba 2.0.6-3 (productive env.) slow down dramticaly
Hello together,
since today morning I have an massive performance issue with samba
2.0.6-3 (Debian - Testing-Tree) in my samba production environment.
Samba responds very slowly within the logon process (2-3 Minutes for
each line in the netlogon.cmd). Later during normal operations opening
from files works very slowly and often breaks connection.
There is no cpu or memory load on the system.

nmbd error: workgroup name is too long
I found a similar thread in this mailing list from a few years ago, but it looks like there was never a clear resolution. (https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2015-February/189450.html).
I’m fairly frequently receiving the following error in my logs:

Can't see shares on a server member
Hi team,
I'm dealing with AS/U as a member server on a Samba 3.0.20 PDC.
Jonction seems ok, and from the member server I can see PDC's shares (with
net view) and authenticate user (with net logon user passwd
/domain:domainname).
On the other side, I fell into timeout when running smbclient -L member
from the PDC. Here is a log.nmbd loglevel 10 from PDC as there is no other

List windows clients/machines in network list (win 7)
People,
some of the machines of my network aren't been listed in (Windows
Explorer - Network icon).
I made a research and I found the following:
- try to activate some services:
SSDP Discovery;
UPnP Device Host;
Function Discovery Resource Publication.
Note: this situation happens with machines that were joined to the domain
and with others that weren't added to
