ext3 bug?
Hi,
I have a severe filesystem crash on a machine with a single ext3 filesystem.
It is the second time that this happens to me (on two different machines that
are identical in hardware setup and mostly in software - I cloned them when
I started to work).
It looks like the journal (or something else, i am not an expert here) has
gone wild and overwritten loads of inodes. I have a single filesys

2.4.14 + latest patch != ext3 support
Hello,
I just need a little clarification regarding applying the ext3 patch to the latest kernel.
I have 2.4.7-10 that came with RH 7.2.
I have ext3 running.
I need to upgrade those (to get some USB device working).
So I got the latest kernel, 2.4.14, patched it with the ext3-2.4-0.9.15-2414 patch, picked ext3 from 'make xconfig', built the kernel, but the new stuff in /boot, etc.,

nutups with MGE Evolution via USB
I'm getting dmesg flooded with messages like this one:
usbdevfs: usb_submit_urb returned -28
What's wrong? I'm using Linux kernel 2.4.32 and nut-2.0.3.
The /etc/ups.conf contains
[mgeups]
driver = newhidups
port = auto
desc = "MGE UPS"
Cheers,
Rodrigo

More sendmail problems... Partition your disks!
This is yet-another reason to _partition_ your disks. Of course hard links
do not work accross filesystems. Even thought it is a pain in the neck to do
when installing your operating system, think about separating critical
system files from non-critical and non-system files from system files. I
would say that the following layout is a good place to start:
/
/usr (nosuid,nodev,ro)
/usr/local

Can we disable write to /sys/fs/cgroup tree inside container ?
Hi all
Each lxc container on node have mounted tmpfs for cgroups tree:
[root-inside-lxc@tst1 ~]# mount | grep cgroups
cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct type cgroup
(rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,cpuacct,cpu)
cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset type cgroup
(rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,cpuset)
cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/memory type cgroup
(rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,memory)

Conversion / partition from ext2 to ext3
Hi,
I have installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 with ext2 file system and I have multiple partition. I converted them to ext3 using following command.
tune2fs -j -i 0 /dev/hdaX
And I modified /etc/fstab as below.
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts

mount toption: nodev
Hi,
I am trying to secure my CentOS file systems by introducing "nodev" to devies defined in /etc/fstab. I learned that "nodev" prevents users from mounting unauthorized devices. However, I can still mount a cdrom to /tmp/cdrom with the following defined in /etc/fstab. Am I missing something? Thanks.
LABEL=/tmp /tmp

as an ext2fs. (Yeap, I looked a little bit around in the mailling list
and found similiar problems which haven't help me ;-( )
I have a root ( /) and a /mnt partition. both are converted via tune2fs
-j into a journaled fs.
my fstab looks like this:

amd 920824upl102 ignores the nodev option
amd from the amd-920824upl102-6.i386.rpm file distributed with RedHat
Linux 4.1 does not honor the nodev option for NFS filesystems and probably
other mount types, allowing any user access to the device files in /dev on
a system, provided that they have root access to another linux box on the
network. In addition, the default amd.conf from RH 4.1 maps /net/* to NFS
mounting, which makes the bug in

Problems authenticating after upgrade to sernet-samba 4.3.9-24
Hello list,
Just did a major Samba/CTDB upgrade and our previously working auth setup is having some issues under the new version. Would appreciate some help troubleshooting. It seems like we are close, since the trust relationship between our Samba servers and the AD service looks OK. But winbind fails like this:

The use of R Commander for beginning students and newbies
Everyone:
In the last few months I've noticed an increasing number of questions to
this list from students who are new to the use of R and who have limited (in
any) local support on R and specifically support for R syntax.
My text

I am using xen-tools version: 3.9-4 to create domUs:

root fs not mounting ext3
I am using SuSE 7.3 compiled ext3 support into the kernel and installed it.
All my partitions load up as ext3 except / . I ran tune2fs several times,
still doesn't take on the / drive. Most recent dumpe2fs -h show no features
on that drive=, I keep going around in circles, removing .journal from / and
running tune2fs but it never works for /
What am I doing wrong? ( thanks in advance)

Working UPS report: Geek Squad GS-700U (Cyberpower clone?)
Hi,
I wanted to report some success with monitoring this UPS, a "Geek Squad"
brand GS-700U that I purchased earlier this year from Best Buy Canada.
Information about this... thing is very scarce so here is what I know:
The unit itself is probably made by Cyberpower. It has a 9-pin serial
port on the UPS, as well as a serial-USB adapter thing. I cracked open

Pam_mount not working with "sec=krb5"
So finally here is the solution that works for me. If you have any
questions, just ask.
I use pam_mount with the following volume definition in the
"/etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml":
<volume fstype="cifs" server="server" path="home/%(USER)"
mountpoint="/home/%(USER)" sgrp="domain users"

mounting CDROM without mapaping UC to LC
Hi!
this is surely a newbie question, so I should know the answer, but
I'm fighting with mounting a CD such that filenames are NOT mapped to
lowercase (I need to use its on-board tools for accessing files on it
while mounted on Centos 6.5, and those tools assume uppercawse, since
they assume the entire world runs Windoze.)
but despite my best efforts, it keeps being mounted with UC-LC
