Re: C'mon guys. Get some virus protection
These virus messages are making the digest form of the mailing list very
difficult to read.
Isn't there a way to cut them out at the server end?

How do you guys protect Samba shares from Win32 based viruses?
That's pretty much the question. I've got Symantec
NAVCE running on my NT server protecting itself, the
Windows clients and the Exchange server, but what do i
do about my Linux based Samba server?
Will a linux based AV app search for Win32 based
viruses?
Thanks,

Virus Protection
I am implementing a Linux server w/ SAMBA as the primary file server for a law office. I need virus scanning on this system. This is not a direct component to SAMBA, but I figured most SAMBA shops would have virus protection at the server level.
I looked at Trend ServerProtect (a closed-source & packaged product) but it has problems with multi-processor servers, and my server has dual

Virus Protection ... Which one...?
Hi all
I've found a few different packages (RAV, Kaspersky,Vexira, Clam ...)
which offer Anti-Virus features for Linux servers. It looks like RAV
specifically supports Samba servers.
My question is:
Can anyone relay their experiences / opinions / thoughts about which one
would work best in a multiple-server environment (~100 Windows Clients)?
Thanks in advance -- all comments are

Commercial Liscense for rsync
Dear All,
I am very new in open source. Please give me some ideas on the
following questions.
What is the liscense of rsync for commerical use? Do I need to pay
for commercial use? Is it still GPL?
A similar case is MySQL. It has commercial liscense for business use.
Any help will be appreciate!
Thanks!

Samba and Actionlaser 1500
Has anyone gotten this printer to work with Redhat/Samba?
My system is RH 7.2 , Kernel 2.4.20, samba 1.2.7a.
Sometimes, VIA CUPS, it will print a test sheet, but I cant seem to get it
to work locally with a raw queue.
I've tried Foomatic but it just messed up my printer database so I
reinstalled printconf,
Linuxprinter.org says it is partially compatible with the omni driver, which

Can't Access Samba Shares After Recent Windows Update (msblast)
Hello,
I have been running Samba for years with no problems... I recently became
the victim of the MSBLAST worm and I ran Windows Update to fix the hole in
RPC. That was Tuesday. Yesterday, Thursday, I needed to move some files over
to my Linux server and as I usually do, I went to My Network Places ->
Computers Near Me in W2K and could no longer see my Linux server.
I restarted Samba and

Samba, vfat and new kernels: Anyone able to solve the problem?
This is my third mail in the last three months and still no-one has
answered, while I received some comments from other users about the fact
that the problem is known. So if you have any info on how to fix this,
please post a message :-)
Here is the problem:
I used to share a vfat mounted partition with other collegues through samba
(2.0.7).
Everything worked and still works fine with kernel

Virus checker gets error "Network Name was deleted" ?
hi,
Has anyone encountered problems running virus checkers on NT4+sp3
clients against Samba served drives ? We recently upgraded
a samba server to 1.9.18p10 and now have an intermittent problem
where during the scan of Samba drive the virus check flakes out
with the error;
"Network Name was deleted"
I'm told that the server still appears to be browsable after this
error, and the

Is this a bug?
In the course of tracking down a problem in Samba v2.0.4a, I set
"debuglevel=3" and noticed something strange in the log file.
While attempting to find the netlogon script, a number of variations on the
name are tried (e.g. for Windows, it's *.COM, *.EXE, *.BAT). Here's
the strangeness: the file NETLOGON"BAT is also looked for. Yes, that's a

Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.54
Severity: wishlist
Please add the header "Auto-Submitted: auto-generated" to mails
generated by logcheck. This header should be supported by many email
autoresponders and should prevent the need to set up logcheck specific
rules for "vacation"-type autoresponders.
Headers can be added in mail using the -a switch, e.g.

which RSVP implementation do you guys use?
Hi guys,
I was looking on the net for a version of RSVP to play with, and I seem
to have come across 2 dominant ones:
1. ISI one, last release year 1999?
2. KOM one, last relase year 2004
So, what''s your favourite RSVP implementation? What do people on the
list usually use?
Thanks,
Kelv
