FW: Can't Access Samba Shares After Recent Windows Update (msblast)
Hi again, I just went over to a co-workers Windows '98 PC and asked her to try my Samba share and she accessed it fine. So this proves to me that MS's update did indeed break my access to Samba. Being Friday, a lot of folks are gone today, but I'll try and find an unpatched W2K machine to further confirm this. Hopefully, there will be a work-around for this. Cameron -----Original

C'mon guys. Get some virus protection.
Anyone who is smart enough to be on this list is smart enough to get some proper virus protection. However it may be the case that some cannot afford commercial liscenses and/or are not aware of the free virus checkers that are available. Since this *is* a list issue, I don't feel that it is off topic to ask for folks to publish various means for such. I did notice that some were

Samba and Actionlaser 1500
Has anyone gotten this printer to work with Redhat/Samba? My system is RH 7.2 , Kernel 2.4.20, samba 1.2.7a. Sometimes, VIA CUPS, it will print a test sheet, but I cant seem to get it to work locally with a raw queue. I've tried Foomatic but it just messed up my printer database so I reinstalled printconf, Linuxprinter.org says it is partially compatible with the omni driver, which I have

Samba, vfat and new kernels: Anyone able to solve the problem?
This is my third mail in the last three months and still no-one has answered, while I received some comments from other users about the fact that the problem is known. So if you have any info on how to fix this, please post a message :-) Here is the problem: I used to share a vfat mounted partition with other collegues through samba (2.0.7). Everything worked and still works fine with kernel

Is this a bug?
In the course of tracking down a problem in Samba v2.0.4a, I set "debuglevel=3" and noticed something strange in the log file. While attempting to find the netlogon script, a number of variations on the name are tried (e.g. for Windows, it's *.COM, *.EXE, *.BAT). Here's the strangeness: the file NETLOGON"BAT is also looked for. Yes, that's a quotation mark in place

WINS server looses election irregular in a heterogeneous network
Dear Samba-Users, I have to administer a Samba WINS Server in a heterogenous network. It's a student hostel with about 200 mixed (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X) computers. We have a DHCP, which delivers the WINS-Server address to the clients. I don't have access to the clients. The problem is, that the WINS-Server (Samba 3.0.27) looses the Master-Browser election irregulary. I can't

Windows 7 can't see Pi Samba server
Hi Rowland > Possibly a firewall problem, temporarily turn off the firewall on the win7 > laptop that cannot see your rpi, if this works, you know where to look. Thanks for the suggestion. I disabled Kaspersky Internet Security Firewall and Windows Firewall but still can't see the rpi. I can, however, see the other Windows laptops (with firewall on or off). Any other thoughts

Problems with changing security setting on shared folders via Win2k
Hi List, I'm using Samba 3.0.1 as PDC and Openldap 2.1.23 as backend on a Suse 8.2 System, both are build from scratch. Nearly everything is fine, expect I'm not able to change the security setting of subfolders on my shares via my Win2k box. More details: Changing the security setting of my top level shares (created in smb.conf) works fine with the SRVMGR, but everytime I try to

Windows rejects name registration
Dear people of samba, my problem seems to be a firewalled WinXP in our net. Our Samba is the Debian testing (Samba 3.x). It is configured to hold the browsing list and to become master. The nmbd.log shows: [2004/06/09 08:17:38, 0] nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:process_local_master_announce(311) process_local_master_announce: Server PRAEPLAB at IP 129.217.168.62 is announcing itself as a local

problems with Windows XP clients becoming local master?
Hi there. First time posting to this but I'm getting desperate so apologies for any netiquette faux pas... I'm running a Suse box with Samba on it, with Windows XP SP2 clients viewing it in a workgroup. Some pc's are having timeouts when attempting to view a network share though. In the logs, sometimes at the same time as the timeouts, this appears: [2005/07/28 13:19:08, 0]

Two annoying problems
Hey all - Two problems, one mine, one a friend's: (1) I have a small three-machine network at my office. The server is running Mandrake 7.2 with either the 2.2.17-21mdk stock kernel or a custom-compiled 2.4.1 kernel. It's running Samba 2.0.7-18mdk, configured correctly (as everything works when it's booted to the 2.2.17 kernel). I've moved to the 2.4.1 kernel because the USB

Keyboard Interactive Attack?
I read an article today about keyboard interactive auth allowing bruteforcing. I'm afraid I have minimal understanding of what keyboard-interactive really does. What does it do, and should I have my clients set it to off in sshd_config? --- Scott Neugroschl | XYPRO Technology Corporation 4100 Guardian Street | Suite 100 |Simi Valley, CA 93063 | Phone 805 583-2874|Fax 805 583-0124 |
