Latest debian (testing) version crashed strangely
Hi there,
First post to this list - apologies if there's a more appropriate
place for discussion of debian specific builds, but this looks like
a generic-enough bug.
Samba "smbd version 3.0.0beta2-1 for Debian" running on 2.4.21 linux
kernel on Athlon machine. WinXpPro client machine opening a mapped
drive from samba share in a "Add attachment" dialog in Mozilla 1.4.

Samba can't find my @groups
Hello!
I've installed Samba as a PDC and followed all
documentations I've found helpful on the internet!
It looks like everything runs nicely now on my
Debian server with Linux 2.4.21 and Samba 3.0beta1
except when it comes to groups.
I have i.e. the following share:
[Learning]
path = /home/share/learning
write list = @personal, @admin, @installer

Continued: Join domain OK, but domain not found after reboot
Hi, all:
To recap:
I can successfully get my WinXP box to join the domain (WHITEROCK), but
after rebooting, when I try to log on:
"The system cannot log you on now because the domain WHITEROCK is not
available."
I get this even when using the user 'root' - and this user was the one
to successfully join the domain WHITEROCK!!
To rule out any stale junk, my WinXP is a

after migration from 3.0.26a to 3.4.2 we get lots of the following messages in our winbind-idmap logfile. Has anybody seen this before?

samba and idmap_rid panic
Sigh,
Someday i will get samba to work on aix. Now I rebuild samba because I
discovered that you needed to request it to build idmap_rid.so or it
will not make it. After the rebuild I moved over the smb.conf again and
net ads joined again. When I try to start samba, however, it panics
with this information:
smb_register_idmap: Successfully added idmap backend 'tdb'

Does 3.0 work with w2k sp3 and/or win 2003? Anybody had success?
I can't make it work although both sign&seal and restrictanonymous are set to
0.
My setup is: w2k sp2 as PDC, w2k sp3 as client, samba 3.0a21 joined into the
PDC domain as an ADS member. The scenario is, from the w2k sp3 client,
connect to a share hosted by samba, create a file, then use
property->security->add tab to add an ACE, then the browsing user/group

PANIC: Could not fetch our SID - did we join?
Hi,
I have some problems running Samba and Winbind 3.0.22 in a AD, kerberos
environment.
I have seen previous posts on several forums about this problem but
haven't found any solution for it yet.
I have no problem with the default Samba package that comes with Ubuntu,
3.0.14a.
But I do wan't to upgrade and the only option in that case seems to be
to compile it.
I compiled it with

I have been using Samba for years and am at my wits end with this problem.
I have 3.0.0beta1-1 installed (actually, it's the latest Debian unstable
package). I just upgraded it - it was working fine yesterday.
I have rejoined my machine to the domain (did this by creating the account
using NT4's Server Manager to add it and then
net rpc join CCSU -U dnewcomb%password -W CCSU

idmap GID range became full without reason
Please excuse my ignorance: I have been running Samba for a little time, and I've very little experience with it.
I'm running Samba 3.0.37 on FreeBSD 7.2/amd64, configured as member server of a domain whose PDC is a Samba 3.0.25b-apple (the default Samba instance running on a Mac OS X 10.5.8).
The member server is sharing a couple of folders for 5 users (most of whom are using Mac OS

samba 3.0.20pre1 winbind dumps core on Solaris 9
Greetings,
Here is what I have built samba on:
Solaris 9
GCC 3.2.2
samba-3.0.20pre1
openldap-2.2.24
MIT Kerberos 1.4
Samba built with:
./configure --prefix=/opt/local/samba --with-automount --with-profile
--with-acl-support --with-utmp --with-winbind --with-ads --with-ldap
--with-krb5=/opt/local/kerberos5 --with-pam
Within a minute of starting samba + winbind I get a core dump in the

Possible problem w/ 'idmap restore' under 3.0.25rc3
Folks,
Maybe it's me, or my systems, but I've found that idmap restore
simply doesn't work under samba-3.0.25rc3.
When I try to import the idmap.dump file I create from one of my
older systems into a fresh 3.0.25rc3 installation, I get a huge
stream of errors along the line of "could not set mapping of
(UID|GID) to sid xxxxx". This happened whether I was using

idmap uid range 10000-20000: pam_winbind does NOT work ?
Hi all!
Again, unexpected behaviour!
When I set in smb.conf
idmap uid = 10000-20000
idmap gid = 10000-20000
I CAN change and SEE domain users ang groups as I change the owner of a file on Unix:
chown domain+user ./test.txt
chgrp domain+group ./test.txt
ls -l /tmp
-rw-r--r-- 1 user group 0 Feb 4 20:25 test.txt <- I SEE DOMAIN USER AND GROUP
BUT I'm NOT able to telnet or ftp

Hello,
I had a problem with Samba winbind id-mappingĀ on a system that is part

In the smb.conf I have the following setting:

WinXP SP2 winlogon.exe blue screen to death
Hi there,
I have another problem on WinXP SP2 with samba.3.0.20a. Somehow, in a random
situation, once user logged onto the workstations, they were prompted with
the winlogon.exe Fatal error + blue screen to death then self-reboot. When I
checked out the log from windows, it said there's problem on msgina.dll from
WinXP SP2. However, another user can successfully logon to the same
