login as a service to win2k & domain user manager
Hello Samba Administrators, I'm currently running a Samba PDC ver 2.2.7. I have a couple of issues that I'm trying to find some resolution on. First, I need to be able to have a domain user be able to login to my Win2k clients as a service. I can do this by going to each client and configuring the Local Security Policy on EACH and EVERY client machine. This is obviously not a good

Samba PDC and MMC - Problems changing password of services
Hy, im using Samba as PDC. When im logging into another W2K machine with MMC an try to change the password of a service, windows is bringing up the error: "A device attached to the system is not functioning." To be exact, this is error: Winerror.h, 0x000001f = 31 (ERROR_GEN_FAILURE) If you change the Password of the service on the machine itself (sitting in front of the machine)

win2k dropping network connection to samba
Hello, I have a client that has a RedHat 8 box with samba 2.2.7 running as a basic file server. They have two win98 computers and 1 w2k pc. They have no problems accessing the files on the server from the win98 pc's but the win2k pc keeps dropping the connection... I would normally say... ok its some hardware problem with the win2k box... BUT if i copy files to and from shares on the win98

Windows XP login issue
I've just joined the list and this is my first e-mail, I'm sure this has been answered many times. So if someone can direct me to the answer I would appreciate it. I have samba-2.2.7-3.7.2 installed on a RH7.3 server, not due for upgrade until later this year. I can get the windows 98 and windows 2000 PC to login, but cannot get the Windows XP PC to log in. I made the chages to the

nmbd in redhat 8.0
If I enable wins support = yes & I start smbd it starts smb & nmb. When I restart the service it says that there is no nmb service at 10045 running. When I do a ps -aux, you can still see the service running. They will keep building up until I manually delete them. Does anyone know how to fix this?

XP auto enrollment error; TEMP profile
The auto enrollment messages seems to be indicate that the client machine thinks it is connecting to an AD domain. The profile messages is indicative of a domain membership problem, whether or not you are using roaming profiles. Workgroup method is probably simplest-  although my past experience was that even at 5 machines managing multiple users on multiple machines gets tricky.     In

File corruption with write cache enabled - patch included
I recently found out that write caching in samba sometimes leads to file corruption (the setup program for Sophos Antivirus generates corrupted files when making a "central installation" on a Samba share). This morning I tracked down the place in the Samba code that leads to corruption. Here is what happened to me: "write cache size" is 8192 bytes. A client opens a new file

R 2.10 under Windows XP: glitches and successes
I just installed 2.10 on XP; ESS is my primary interface. I seem to be able to access all the help files; under 2.8.1 I was having seemingly random problems accessing some help topics (including one day I could and a few days later I couldn't, and vice-versa). That's good. I noticed a few glitches. First, the installer asks if you want text, CHM, or HTML help, but offers only text or

Performances network samba
Hi all, I 'm new here. We have installed OpenOffice in a "network" mode onto a samba share named \\openoffice\ooo (linux Mandrake9.2) The performances are slowest (a 10M network) I was wondering if there is a simple way to optimise performances beetween a samba share and the win2k clients, a cache or something similar ? Thanks for any help. Xavier

"test page failed to print" - How to I resolve this?
This is a new one to me... Drivers install fine, but on some of the printers I get the "test page failed to print" message. I'm getting nothing in the samba logs from the workstation, smbd, nor from the cups logs. I've googled myself silly, but can only find other people asking the same or similar question. Some of them have found permissions to be the problem, but in

Bizarre problem - happens only under XP and not 2000
I have a very strange problem, which no one has been able to fathom to this point so I'm hoping that someone here may have encountered something similar. I'd better note down some background details first. Relevant machines involved: Win2K Adv. Server SP3 (acting as Active Directory primary) Win2K Pro SP3 (authenticates against Win2K server above) WinXP Pro SP1 (authenticates against

[OT] *nix Server/Windows Client Tips and tricks
Sorry if this is too off topic, but one of the things that happens when you use a *nix box is you have opportunities to do some nifty tricks with shell scripts and whatnot to help maintain your network. Sometimes, this comes at the expense of using the tools that come with some windows software and is the result of necessity. Other times, this comes because the "nifty" tools that come

Hi Phil, But you said you disabled firewalld which makes me wonder if you have the necessary forwarding rules active.
