samba-ldap-debian
Hi all,
I'm pretty new with all this ... but I know that you can configure samba
with the ldap module by doing :
./configure --with-ldap
But how do you proceed with apt from Debian as the only module which
concerns samba is :
apt-get install samba.
it is probably a small silly question but thanx for your help anyway...

Variable interpolation in class parameters
Hi,
In class parameters, things like x="x", y="y${x}" don''t always evaluate
right (y="yx"), seems random. I''m using 2.7.1

$logfoldera = "${homex}/logs",
$logfoldere = "${homey}/logs",

net rpc vampire is sucking my brain!
Trying to migrate NT4 to samba 3.0.0 or 3.0.1pre3 with an ldap backend.
I add a backup server account to the domain and joined. Getting the SID
and the ldap init seem to work, and I start windbind. When I run net rpc
vampire all I get is a ton of "Could not create posix account info for "
errors. Then ofcourse pdbedit -L returns smbldap_search_suffix: Problem
during the LDAP search:

Has anybody got ACL to work w/ debian, winbindd in a w2k mixed domain?
Im seriously thinking about changing dist. due to acl won't work as they
should with debian woody. Ppl also tell me this is because of some bug in
debian. So, as the subject says, anybody got acl to work w/ debian 3,
winbindd in a domain? If not, hello redhat..

DID IT! - Samba 2.2.8a+LDAP+PDC
I am so stoked I just had to share this with y'all.
I just "SEAMLESSLY" migrated all of my machines and users over to my new
Gentoo Linux Server.
I even kept the same: domain name and old PDC NetBios name.
The trickiest part was getting all of the users to keep their same
profile, but I managed that by cloning the RID and Lanman/NT hashes for
the user accounts.
Free at last!

samba 2.2.2: "./configure --with-pam" -> error
Hello,
I tried to compile samba-2.2.2 on two different Mandrake-7.1-machines
and on a Debian-Potato and started with a few "--with-..." additions to
./configure each time ending up with an error (error code "1").
I tracked it down that the problem only exists as soon as I add
"--with-pam" to the command line:
./configure --with-pam

Re: 2.2.7 compile error using --with-acl-support
If you are using the debian/rules from apt-get or the source tarball, you
need to not only include
--with-acl-support in debian/rules, you also need to
vi debian/config.cache
--> replace "ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=${ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=no}"
with "ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=${ac_cv_header_sys_acl_h=yes}"
This will allow it to compile.
Unfortunately, for me,

Re: ACL issues still unresolved (Andrew Furey)
It sounds like smbd isn't linking to the acl libs-have you run ldd against
winbindd to see if it is linking to libacl.so.1?
I recently had very similar symptoms running 2.2.7 under Debian and I found
that I wasn't compiling against the acl libs.
Make sure you have the line (this might work best if you put this line
before --with-msdfs)
--with-acl-support in debian/rules,
Plus you have to

Problem logging on to successfully joined domain
Hi!
I'm running Debian Sarge's "Samba 2.2.3a-14" and already successfully
joined the Win2k-client (SP3) to the Samba-PDC-domain.
Nevertheless, I can't logon to the domain, getting the error-message:
"The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's
computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on
that account is

Redhat ACL support
Hi,
I'm trying to setup a RedHat 8 fileserver, it must work seamlessly within
our 2000/NT network. After some research, I believe the first thing I need
to do is install ACL support.
I tried doing this once, didn't go well, had to reinstall RedHat.
What files do I need and from where, to install ACL support for RedHat 8?

winbind, pam_stack and debian
Hey all
Im trying to get a samba pc reading passwords off a windows pdc for
authorising user shares.
The howtos all say to use pam_stack.so for this however it does not
exist in debian (its a redhat thing).
is there a workaround for this?
Thanks!

smbldap-populate under debian woody fail
I really hate Debian sometimes - no I don't want to start a flame war!
In the smbldap-populate script (0.84) some of the template entries are
commented out, the first one being the one after "cn=Domain Guests".
Obviously the perl version shipped with woody chokes on the commented
parts, which causes the script to die. After uncommenting all the
templates the script runs

graph problems with r-1.7.0 on debian (woody)
Hi,
I installed r-1.7.0 from the source on Debian. For some reasons,
connections to X seems to be broken. Simply, graphs do not show up
without any warning or error messages.
I configured the sources --with-x before I installed it. Any hints?
One other thing. I tried to uninstall r-1.7.0 using
make uninstall
(with r-1.6.2 remaining in the system). When I call R,
r-1.7.0 rather than

R function for Woody Average (Average with alignment)?
Dear R users,
I'm looking for a function to align multiple waveforms that contain
random phase shifts.
The "Woody Average" is one such method -- is there any comparable
function already coded for R?
Matlab code for this type of average exists
[http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/loadFile.do?objectId=12459&objectType=FILE]
but I don't speak matlab.
Cheers,

domain groups in samba 2.2.3a debian woody
Hello, I'm using samba 2.2.3a in debian woody. I've set up the debian server as a PDC, and clients can join and log in fine. What I'm now looking for is how to set up groups for my users. When I try to set the security for a file in windows, I see the users on the linux server, but no groups. How do I map between unix group and samba groups? I've seen mention of the
