LFS Stuff
Hi,
The LFS page hosted on suse's servers states that smbfs has probs with
large files and it seems to be a bit out-of-date.

I can't correct him with authority, but maybe one of the team should.

Files over 4GB not listing properly. Cannot get CIFSworking.
Put this in the wrong thread, sorry!
UPDATE: I've realized that this seems to be an issue with the compiler flags used to build samba.
I've realized that i need to define _LARGEFILE_SOURCE, _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE, and _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.
I've done this, but still have no luck reading files larger than 4GB. Anyone have suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt

RE: [PATCH] smbfs readdir fix (CFT: NetApp, OS/2)
Vlad.
I still got the same problem - 'ls | wc -l' returned incorretc numbers.
I installed the following patches with the sequence vs. the kerner 2.4.18:
1. 00-smbfs-2.4.18-codepage.patch.gz
2. 01-smbfs-2.4.18-lfs.patch.gz
3. 02-smbfs-2.4.18-unicode.patch.gz
4. smbfs-2.4.19-pre9-readdir.patch
After installed patches, I ran 'make modules' and so on.
Any more

Filesize problem with smbfs
Hi everyone,
(cc Philippine Linux Users' Group)
First off I'm not a member of the mailing list so it would be really great
if I could be cc'd all replies. TIA. :)
I am experiencing a problem with Samba/Linux to Samba/Linux smbfs mounts.
I am using Samba 2.2.2 on both client and server. The server's filesystem
is XFS, kernel is 2.4.16-xfs.

Windows interacting with SAMBA share
Hi,
My company has a Samba [3.0] share on a Debian Linux 3.0 [Kernel 2.6]
machine and we are trying to copy a large file [>2GB] from a Windows
machine to the Samba share. When we try to do this, it only copies 2GB
of the information. We were previously having a similar issue when
transfering a large file [>2GB] from Linux to a Windows share [mounted
as smbfs], but fixed that with the

lfs --obd discrepancy to lctl dl (1.8.3)
Hello,

ext3 for 2.2 and LFS
In the Red Hat Linux spec file for the 2.2.19 kernel, there is a note
not to enable ext3 and LFS at the same time. I'm wondering whether this
is an old note, and that it is safe to use ext3 0.0.7a on a system with
LFS enabled, or if there are still issues with it.
I'm aware that 0.0.7a is a really old version, and 2.2 isn't the most
modern kernel, but it is what I have to work with.

Big quality loss with self-compiled Vorbis-lib under LFS
Hallo altogether!
First of all I want to thank the developers for the great codec!
But I have the following problem now:
I have built my own Linux from Scratch and also compiled everything that is
necessary to have ogg and vorbis and tools for de- and encoding. Just the
encoding turned out to have very poor quality independent how high I set the
quality level. It has some kind

Large File support not quiet working..
Hey all, I'd like some hints on getting LFS properly working. I've got a
samba server sharing a directory, and I've got a samba client (both client
and server are linux, slackware 7.1 and 8.1) that's mounting the
directory.
this is with samba 2.2.7a.
what happens is when I do an LS on the client in the mounted directory
with large files in it, I see strange numbers. I've

Cannot connect to a windows network
Hello,
I am trying to use Samba to let me mount windows network drives on an
Ubuntu Dapper Server installation that I am using as a desktop.
Using:
testparm
my smb.conf seems to be ok.
Using
smbclient -L GM.local -U username -p
Gives me a full listing of all network drives, which again seems to be
good. So now I try this:
sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=username \//GM.local/DC4

Ext3 and LFS - possible? fatal?
Has anyone tried LFS (ie >2G files support) and Ext3 together?
Are there good reasons why this should/should not work?
I see the RH enterprise kernel patch set specifically does not attempt
both lfs and ext3, but the lfs patches themselves touch some reasonably
localised parts of ext2, so I would hope (without having dived in there
to test), that the ext3 changes would mirror that

Samba & Unicode
With the final release of 2.4.21, would it be appropriate for Urban to
consider updating all of the2.4.18 smbfs patches as a single file.
I've had a problem for a while where I'm trying to mount my shares on a
windows 2000 server with some (french canadian) accentuated characters in
the file names and directory names, which smbfs mounts with question
marks.
At first I thought this was

Samba 2.2.8a Large File Support Issues
I know this issue has been beat to death on the newsgroups, but I have
not yet found an answer.
I will make an attempt to include all the necessary info.
Description of Problem:
I am having problems trying to access large files (>2GB) on mounted
smbfs volumes.
To clarify, I am attempting to view large files that exist on an NT
server, from my Linux box, and getting erroneous results.

File size limit?
Hi all,
We have a Debian Linux 3.0, running kernel 2.4.18, and all filesystems are formatted as ext3.
My problem is: when I try to mount an w2k share in this machine using smbmount, I can't see big files correctly. I suspect that the problem happens with files bigger then 2GB. I have a file in the w2k machine that's 4GB size, and when I mount the share in the linux machine, I see that

smbfs size limit
Hello, Samba-users,
please don?t beat me, but I have to ask this question here, as I
haven?t found an answer I can rely on until now.
I am working on a solution for a backup-problem and one possible
solution could be the use of smbfs/smbmount.
I am testing that now, mounting a WinXPHome(sorry, testing ...)-share
which is 20GB of size (8GB used) to my linux-box. The linux-box is a
