validates_presence_of
I am just going through the book and I come across a problem with the
code in the app/models:
validates_format_of :image_url,
:with => %r{^http:.+\.(gif|jpg|png)$}i,
:message => "must be a URL for a GIF, JPG, or PNG image"
It seems to moan when it''s empty even though I removed :image_url from
validates_presence_of. How should I make it optional?

voip-info.org unreliable lately?
Anyone have any insight as to why voip-info.org has been up and down all
day, and more importantly unreliable for the last month?
I assume the bandwidth is being donated or something, but surely someone
would be willing to donate reliable bandwidth as the knowledge hosted on
the site (which is also donated!) is worth way more than the bandwidth.
There is no doubt it is the best

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie.
I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand why there isn't a global voting for this like

Christmas tree
Hi,
I've built a christmas tree type of Ogg stream as a kind of torture
test for players. It passes oggz validate, but I had a lot of trouble
to get it right (in particular, the ogg streams to merge had to be
passed in a very specific order on the oggz merge command line
to avoid creating a stream that oggz validate would moan about)
so I'm not confident it's a valid stream, so if

If you're up to writing a bit of shell script, and are running
on Linux, you could automate the conversion process so that it
happens as soon as the recording is completed.

flac metadata
So I've just ripped my entire 600 CD collection to flac format (200gigs worth) with vorbis comments in the flac metadata. But my gripe is that neither Winamp nor XMMS's flac plug-ins seem to have the ability to read the vorbis comment from the metadata. Are there any flac players for windoze or linux that can access the metadata? Or do i have to add redundant ID3 tags to all my flac

Samba 3 beta 3 Machine Trust Accounts
Okidokey
Heres the story
We currently have an NT4 Domain with 50+ machines connected to it, we
have one NT4 PDC and two NT4 BDC's.
We Currently have three redhat 7.3 servers that offer up our file shares
using Samba 2.2.x
As opposed to "upgrading" to windows 2000 we want to see if we can
migrate across to a Samba controlled domain. Now then I currently have a
test machine that is

I've written a VM in OCaml built upon LLVM using LLVM's OCaml bindings:

There are at least two other significant users of LLVM's OCaml bindings,
AFAIK.

What NAS device(s) do you use? And why?
If you use any NAS (or a SAN) devices, what do you use? And I'm
referring more to larger scale network storage than your home PC or
home theater system.
We've had very good experiences with our NetGear ReadyNAS devices but
I'm in the market for something new. The NetGear's aren't the cheapest
ones around but they do what it says on the box. My only real gripe
with them is the

Problems with Dovecot and self-signed cert
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I've recently set up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 WS server, and decided
to try using Dovecot as my IMAP server, as I was impressed with the
dedication to security that seems to be the core development goal. I'm
really happy with it, but I can't get it to work with a self-signed cert.
Normally, on a RHEL system, you just go into

[LLVMdev] Thread local storage and PowerPC
Hi all friends of PowerPC!
My last gripe hindering me calling out "VICTORY!" on my
large PPC embedded project is thread level storage not
being implemented in the backend. I have filed this bug:
http://llvm.org/PR12593
I wonder whether there is some fundamental obstacle
(compared to the x86 backend, where this feature seems
to work), or is it just "simple matter of

essential applications can be accommodated. The exception in the PC Sync

presumably because USB drivers cannot be set up (the phone memory is not

Hi,
I am relatively new to Samba although I've installed it and used it before my knowledge is very shallow.

I am trying to allow a user to copy folders from her desktop system to the SMB share that is mounted on her computer. I am using a different login to

PXELINUX: how to debug initrd corruption?
Hi All,
I have a system, that, ~80% of the time, fails to properly boot using
pxelinux.0 as provided by RHEL 5.5 (syslinux 3.11, I think). The
gripe, before the console messages stop, is a message that comes from
the linux kernel complaining the compressed ram drive image is bad:
"invalid compressed format (err=[small number])".
I have two questions:
1. How should I go about
