RedHat Samba 2.2.7a-8.9.0 RPM complete?
Does anyone have information or know how I can find out what option this rpm was built with? ie with winbind on... I still seem to be having odd winbind / samba / acl problems (cannot get perms. modified via a Win2k station to stick). Regards, Matt Twigg

Samba 2.2.8a file permissions not working
We have upgraded from Samba 2.2.7a to 2.2.8a. We have samba running our our two UNIX file servers, one is Solaris 8 and the other RedHat Linux 7.3. Samba was compiled as follows: configure --prefix=/opt/samba --with-acl-support --with-quotas Right now it doesn't looks like changing file/folder permissions are working from W2K. When we right click on a file/folder and go to the

2 gigabyte issue
I am running RedHat8, samba 2.2.7 The mailing list archives seem to pin the 2gb problem on several unrelated issues (all of which i explored). The machines in question have no problems creating 2+gb files locally and via NFS. Is this an issue with smbfs? smbmount? anyone have a workaround? -- 'As we enjoy great Advantages from the Inventions of others we should be glad of an Opportunity

Name Resolution, Pinging
I am running redhat 7.3 with Samba 2.2.4. I was wondering if there was a way to use Samba to resolve my IPs instead of having to add all the entries to my /etc/hosts file? For instance, I would like to be able to do `ping acormany` instead of `ping <IP Address>`. We are currently using WINS on a Windows box to resolve the IPs. As of right now, I can `ping acormany` on a Windows system, but

Still having trouble with copying large files
I had originally written about this problem last month (http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-November/085418.html) Since then, our company has added another Windows Fileserver which I'm trying to back up, and they are both having the problem. Because it happens on both servers, this leads me to believe it really is a problem with my Samba server. I've upgraded to 2.2.7a, as the

Cannot reconnect network drives from Windows XP
Dear Samba List, My Windows XP machine is unable to reconnect my Linux samba network drive when I login. I installed: Win2000_PlainPassword.reg which allows me to connect manually, but it is a requirement that this be automatic on each login. Has anyone found a way to achieve this? Thanks, Dick

Figuring out name of Kerberos server?
Hi! I'm on a conquest to get Samba 3.0 to authenticate against an Active Directory. For this, I need to have Kerberos working. However, I don't know the name of our Kerberos server. If I've got a Windows machine which is part of the Active Directory, can I somehow get it to tell me the name of the Kerberos server? Or could I use a packet sniffer to get the name of the server?

Multiple Samba Instances on a Single Distribution.
Hello, I am wondering if anyone else has thought that it might be good to be able to run multiple instances of samba on a single machine ? I currently accomplish this task with VMware and multiple vm's. But it seems to me that it may be simpler if samba were able to run multiple instenses, with unique configs and smbpasswds, binding to unique aliased ethernet devices! Such that on a single

nmblookup can't resolve IPs (but SMB-names)
Hi there, i have Samba 2.2.7a running on FreeBSD-STABLE 4.7. I set up a few things and smbd and nmbd start up at boot, i can browse the net. However, nmblookup can only find IPs by SMB-names, but not SMB-names by IPs. Here is an example output of the failed lookup: %nmblookup -d 3 210.104.1.133 Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file

smbclient returns incorrect file size for large files
When I connect to a share on an NTFS drive on a Windows 2000 server using smbclient and obtain a directory listing using the 'ls' command, the file size of large files is shown as 259190784. This is not the size of the file according to the Windows GUI which gives 8,849,125,376 bytes (8.24 GB) as the file size. I have not been able to determine exactly how big a file has to be for the

Solaris binary distribution question /usr/local
HI! I am trying to configure the samba 2.2.7 binary from sunfreeware ( package for Solaris 7). Is there any way to override the default install location of /usr/local/samba for the lock files? I do not have access to /usr/local as it is NFS mounted and shared by all Solaris 7 boxes. I can pkgadd to a different root path, and I can -s the config file to the install location, but I cannot
