Can not grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege on Debian Etch
I am testing out Debian Etch, and ran into an issue granting SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an account... which granting that permission had been troublesome in the past. The command I am issuing is: net rpc rights grant LDS-DEMO\\ldsinst SeMachineAccountPrivilege And I try running the command with an account that is a member of the "Domain Admins" group. The command returns: Failed to

Upgrading from 3.0.23 but group_mapping.tdb is empty on current config
Hi all, I've done a serious amount of reading around this but I still can't figure out the implications of what I'm seeing. I have inherited a CentOS 4 Samba 3.0.23 PDC & file server for 40 hosts that has been through the wars. It is standalone and stable and uses the smbpasswd file authentication backend, however I need to upgrade for Windows 7 support. I intend to build a

group mapping question
Hi All, Just a general question about groups. I am upgrading a Samba workgroup, server to a PDC. I have been reading: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/groupmapping.html#id2589321 In this link, they tell of how to map a windows group to a Samba group net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadm rid=512 type=d Question 1: if my previous

idmap + ldap + nsswitch +winbindd
Hello, I have a couple of questions regarding group mapping. I am working on configuring Samba 3.0.0 on FreeBSD with LDAP support. 1. Am I correct in that winbindd needs nsswitch to work? If so I would need to run FreeBSD 5.1 and not FreeBSD 4.x so that I had NSSwitch support. 2. If I am correct in question 1 is anybody running FreeBSD 5.1 with nsswitch with Samba 3.0.0 +LDAP successfully? 3.

domain admin issue
I have a new Debian testing machine running the Debian Samba 3.0.5. Everything seems OK except that I cannot get users to have domain admin rights. I have Windows XP workstations. The workstations join and log onto the domain fine. A "net groupmap list" yields: server:/home/tnolen# net groupmap list System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1 Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1 Guests

Samba Group Mapping
Hi All I have Samba 3.2.11 installed on Suse (sles 10) machine. I am playing around the group mapping functionality. When I map a linux group to nt group. I can see that groups is visible on windows client. But, if I restart the smbd daemon (while changing the scurity mode for ads to user or vice versa), I can no more see the mapped group to the the Windows client. Though, I was able to see

net groupmap list show no results
Hi Guys I am running FreeBSD 5.4, with version Samba-3-0-23b, and when i run 'net groupmap list', the output is blank. Seems like it's not matching or looking at the local groups that are created by default on the system. i have deleted the group_mapping.tdb in the /var/db/samba directory which gets recreated either when samba is reloaded or when the 'net groupmap list'

matching UIDs to RIDs when converting from Windows to Samba
I have a bunch of Windows users using a Win2k server as a PDC. I want to move all the server functions to a Samba server without disturbing the users in any way. The client machines are all Win2k, using local profiles. Samba insists on algorithmicly generating the RID from the UID, so the Windows user, after migration, gets a new SID and loses contact with their local profile. In fact, they

Domain admins not getting local admin rights
Hi there, I switched servers yesterday. The old server was running 2.2.7a-1 on RedHat 8.0. The new server is 3.0.8-0.pre1.3 on Fedora Core 3. I did the migration by copying the following: /etc/passwd /etc/group /etc/shadow /etc/samba/* I then copied /home and fixed all the permissions on stuff. I then started up samba on the new server, and unplugged the old one. Most everything went

After Upgrading to rc4 (and still with 3.0.0) having Groupmap problems.
Hi, Before Samba 3.0.0 RC4 I was running Samba 3.0.0 beta3, and when I upgraded to RC4, I began having problems with group mappings. I didn't notice at first, because on my laptop I don't normally log on to the domain. I just noticed when I tried to use my desktop and log on to the domain... I don't have Domain Admin privileges. So, I look at 'net groupmap list' ... and it
