Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi,
I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a
network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that?
The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4.
Here is part of the global section:

Logoff script?
Is there such a thing as a Samba logoff script? I am currently using
[NETLOGON] for logon scripts, but for the adding and removing of printers
via WSH, I'd prefer to also remove these printers after I log off.

FAX Server
Hi,
Every once in awhile the subject of faxing through Samba comes up and there are some
really interesting solutions offered. Here we go again.
My question is more related to hardware. What modems are the successful Samba
faxers using these days? Though to software works fine, the hardware leaves a
something to be desired.
Thanks.

Login Script Doesn't
Hi,
I've been trying to get the logon script to with in XP. This same logon script
works in Win98. I finally discovered that it will work if I change
logon drive =
to
logon drive = z:
Now I'm really confused. The Netlogon is path is /home/samba and shared as
\\server\netlogon. Z: is mapped as \\server\home\. This means the path to the
logon script is Z:\samba\logon.bat Not

Samba and Linux users
Hi,
I have 2 clients that have expressed an interest in switching some users to Linux
workstations as a test to see if they can avoid paying some of the Micro$oft tax.
They will be sharing Word and Excel data. I'll be installing OpenOffice to begin
with. Maybe they might be interested in Gnumeric later.
My question is how to tell either Linux or Samba or both to allow any user to

Restrict some directories in browse list
I have the problem of needing to hide some directories from the browse
list (Win98 clients) of some users (total of about 250). I am expecting
to create behaviour similar to the home directory where only the home
owner can see it. I would like to make some shares visible only to users
in a certain Unix group.
I have a share 'Automation' with a sub-directory structure and I use

strange slcakware behaviour
G'day,
I have installed Slackware 9 several times. On each occasion the samba
install defaults ot /etc/samba/private for smbpasswd etc. This is what I
expect.
I have just completed an install that took forever as I couldn't
understand why testparm said the smb.conf was fine, but on starting smbd
and nmbd both would start but smbd would die straight away. It appears
it wanted

Any way to do Linux User home directories via Samba
All of our user authentication is done via LDAP. We have an all
Linux backend and tons of windows desktops. We've just started getting
a few people to move to Linux on the desktop. Is there any way that I
can have their home directory automatically mounted via Samba when they
log in?
Thanks,

Windows 98 logon server problem
Hi,
I have Samba version 2.2.7 up and running as a PDC for several
Windows 2000/XP clients, as well as file sharing working. However, when
I try to use it as a Win9X logon server, I can not seem to make it work.
Whenever I try to logon from the Win98 computer, I get the error
message "Incorrect Parameter" (in windows) and get the following message
in the nmbd.log file:

problem running logon script
Hello.
We have at the firm a Windows 2000 Domain Controler. I recently configured
a linux box, configured samba and joined the Win2000 DC. Everything went
fine, i can connect to the Win DC, but i have a problem. On the DC there
is a logon script, that basically defines a place on the Win DC where
certain programs should keep their files and maps on every client two
shares, that again reside on the

Login script doesn't run
Hi,
The login script has worked for our win98 computers since the dawn of time (or
there abouts). Then something happened or I did something and the login script
doesn't run anymore. I can run it manually. This was version 2.2.3a.
I started smbd with -d10 and didn't see any call for a script. Is the login script
mentioned in a working system?
In an effort to fix this, I deleted and

Static/shared linking woes
Greetings.
A straight-out-of-the-cd Slackware 9.
A straight-out-of-the-tar Samba 3.0.0.
# cd source
# ./configure --with-automount --with-smbmount
(...configure ran...)
# make
(...make ran...)
# du
... What?? The bin/ directory amounted to over 400 MB!
smbd over 24 MB, when the 2.3.x one I have is 1.7 MB?
I presumed it erroneously linked all the libraries as static. So I did:
# ./configure

Win 98 loosing it.
Hi,
One of my friends came to me with a problem I've heard of before but haven't
found an answer yet.
Her situation is a Windows network with a mixture of Win XP and Win 98
computers. There are 4 98 machines of which 2 are giving her, and now me,
fits. Seems these 2 loose their drive mappings after about 5 - 10 minutes of
idle time. They work fine as long as the user is actively doing

Login script doesn't run - Solved
I hate being stupid. Here is the answer:
This won't work:
[global]
logon script = %U.bat # Win9x needs this
This will work:
[global]
# Win9x needs this
logon script = %U.bat
The comment has to be on it's own line.
Thanks to all for trying to help.

roaming profiles on win98
We have 20-30 computers here with win98 and a Linux/Samba Server. We
have just implemented Samba PDC. The only problem I see is if we change
passwords on a computer..that changes on that workstation and on Samba
and Unix. Now, if the user goes to another computer they have their old
password on the other computer and new one on Samba.
So, would roaming profiles help me...what i want to do is
