Samba 3.0.0 Beta 3
Hello,
I have recently compiled Samba 3.0.0 Beta 3 on Debian Woody. I compiled it
with LDAPSAM support.
After reading and working through the PDF file that comes with Samba 3 to
configure the LDAP server I get the following error messages when I do smbpasswd
-a <username>
sparc10:~# /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a ********

Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC.
I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation.
Problem:
User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can
tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However,
unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

Samba 3 Beta3 using LDAP and NT4 Migrate
Hi,
I am trying a test of migrating a NT4 Domain to Samba 3 Beta 3 configured to
use LDAP on Redhat 8. Is this possible?
Details
-------
I previously had Beta 2 on LDAP running as it's own domain controller
without problem and could create users (in LDAP) with smbpasswd -a. XP
clients could join and login OK.
Now I have flushed that setup and have loaded Beta 3 configured to use LDAP,

Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Hi all,
As promised, I have started a howto document on setting up Samba with NT ACL
support, based on experiences in my workplace, as documentation for this
seems to be on the short side at the moment.
It is available at the following address:
http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto
I have yet to convert it to proper DocBook format, and it needs more material

FW: Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Sorry - I should have addressed this to Paul Eggleston who started this thread. Regardless who started it (the Samba + ACL howto), my offer still stands if I can be of any help. I'd be happy to help with this documentation, input, proof reading, whatever. There's definately a big lack here and the Samba team already has their hands full.

Authentication from W2K PDC..Samba 3.0beta
Hello everyone,
Can I use Ldap to authenticate against our W2K PDC? I have winbind
working for Samba 2.2.8a - but the boss wants me to see about Ldap.
If this is possible could you provide a starting point for me?
I can use getent group to get a list of domain groups after I adjusted
the /etc/ldap.conf
By default Samba found our State Ldap server upon installation - I work

Key table name malformed
Hi,
We are having an issue, trying to install a domain member server.
I'm following the samba wiki:
- samba 4.6.1
- krb5.conf as recommended on wiki
- time synced
- kinit works
- dns works (DCs in resolv.conf)
- setup a basic smb.conf (pasted at the end of this email)
- edit nsswitch.conf to include winbind for passwd/group
and then finally "net ads join -U administrator -d5" fails

logline of account becoming NT_STATUS_ACCOUNT_LOCKED_OUT
Hi,
I am trying to capture from the logs the moment that samba locks an
account. (because of too many failed logon attempts)
This is samba 4.7.2, with:
> log level = 1 auth_audit:3
What we see in the logs is like this:
> Auth: [LDAP,simple bind/TLS] user [(null)]\[cn=username,cn=users,dc=samba,dc=company,dc=com] at [Sat, 02 Dec 2017 15:13:45.102695 CET] with [Plaintext] status

winbind problem (?) on samba 3 ADS
Hi,
I have installed samba 3.0.6 based on the "Official
HOWTO" to join out Active Directory environment, with
winbind and pam support. I have join the samba to the
domain using "net ads join -Umyloginame". I can do the
"wbinfo -g", "getent passwd" and "getent group"
correctly. I also can list shares on other machine,
using kerberos:
# kinit

auth audit log question
Hi,
Since samba 4.7 I have setup auth logging, and while I can relate most
failed passwords to users mistyping a password, there is one kind that I
don't understand, happening across our samba-DCs.
Things work without issues, but I'm just being curious. :-)

Roaming profiles on WinXP SP1 and samba....
Hi Everyone,
I have read as much as I can find about this subject and still am no
closer to understanding why my roaming profiles are not working
correctly.
I have an existing Samba server with RP working. Now I need to move this
to new server due to HW failure on original server.
Configs almost identical. Profiles now reside on a different partition,
but I' ve told samba where to find them.

I applied sp1 and get a message saying that the
"a server copy of the profile exists that does not have the correct
security. Either the current user or the Administrator's group must be
the owner of the folder."
the owner of the profile is correct...
It works again when I re-image back to pre sp1
there is an event in the security log saying...

WinXP SP1 breaks roaming profiles.
We've applied SP1 for WinXP on several machines and now roaming profiles
don't work them.
I tried swithching "nt acl support = yes" as previously mentioned on this
list but this still doesn't
work for us and we continue to get the following error:
Windows did not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with
your local profile. Changes to the profile

Roaming Profiles - WinXP and Win7
Hello All,
Today I was able to implement Samba4 as a DC with AD in a test
environment. I eventually got it all working and was able to join the
domain from two different virtual machines. I was also able to set up a
roaming profile share and configure a user to utilize this share. My
issue is that when I first logged into the domain after setting up the
roaming profiles I did so from a
