Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC
http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to
Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently
running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only
getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when

Denis,
I have checked this and verify that this is a bug. You can track the
progress towards fixing this from https://bugzilla.samba.org as bug #210.
Thanks for the feedback.

lfs 2GB limit for samba-3.0.0beta2-1.i386.rpm
Re: Below I am using samba samba-3.0.0beta2-1.i386.rpm
I had previously been on the latest redhat version of samba ...
I need large file support... Do you know of a patch for the newer sambas
or do I have to go backwards? (see reference below)
I have a samba-2.2.5-1.i386.rpm but then I have to patch the kernel...
redhat have some many kernel patches that this would seem to pose a

W2k/w98 don't see printers on samba-3.0.0beta2/3 in "Add Printer" dialogue
Hello,
I've tried both samba-3.0.0beta2 and beta3 but
both give me the same problem.
When on a windows dekstop and trying to add
a printer with samba as the printserver , the
printers exported by the samba server are not
seen by the windows "add printer dialogue" e.g.:
relevant part of smb.conf:

Minor probs after upgrade to 3.0.0beta2
Firstly, I am running beta2 as AD member. Auth through Winbind.
Upgrading from beta1 to beta2 using RPM on RH 9 I noticed that Winbind will
not start and smb will not stop using Init scripts. Seems to me RH9
/etc/init.d/winbind need the "winbind uid" parameter ? Here is the
/var/log/samba/log.winbind output.

One user's logon crashing Samba 3.0.0beta2-1
Hello,
I am running Debian/sarge and upgraded samba to 3.0 some time ago
Since the upgrade I am having an issue with one user connecting to
samba. When they try to access the samba file server from any machine
(2K/XP) the smbd has a panic and crashes after they put in the login
details. Samba continues to operate so I guess the daemon is
automatically re-started.
This samba box is part of an

I've been following the thread at
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2003-August/101401.html, and,
having encountered the bug mentioned, repackaged samba from CVS as of
about five hours ago.
Now I'm the smb service never starts, I'm getting the following (looped)
when stracing the smbd -D process it runs (see end of message)
Any ideas? TIA.

For those interested in trust relationships on Samba PDC's:
Here's a patch to fix a silly bug when running winbindd on a Samba PDC

the domains.
I thought this was going to be harder to fix or else we

I have attached a patch wich adds support for 4kb pages
to xen 2.0 proper.
(No changes were required from xen 2.0-beta. Apprently mixing
xenolinux from one release and xen kernel from another release is
a no-no. Other than that there were no problems. Thanks to Rupert
Schlick for helping to nail it down. The "noacpi" parameter
does not seem to be mandatory. Finally

Hello,

My smb.conf looks like this:

active connection gets lost in samba version 3.0 beta 3
Hi team,
A Samba "panic" occurs after repeatedly saving "word" files on the server.
Following the panic the "active connection" disappears, but the "active
shares" and "open files" stay.
Windows reports different errors such as "delayed write failed",
"Cannot complete the save due to a file permission error" etc.
Many of the
