2nd POSTING: Samba PDC shares causing errors in MS Word 97 SR2
Hi,
I support around 15 Windows 2000 Clients who log into and have home
directories on a Samba PDC running under RedHat 7.3. The version of
samba I am using is 2.5.5. All the clients use Word97 SR2 and they all
get the following error while working on documents stored on their home
directories on the PDC:
Word failed reading from this file (filename.doc). Please restore the

Changing ownership of a file or folder from within windows?
Hi everyone,
I have a Redhat 8 server running samba 2.2.8a and have configured samba
to use winbind so that I can control access to the file shares using
user and group accounts that have been set up in our windows NT domain.
This all works fine on the shares I set up from within the smb.conf
file. Windows 2000 users can access the shares just by logging into our
domain. But what I would

maximum likelihood accuracy - comparison with Stata
Hi everyone,
I am looking to do some manual maximum likelihood estimation in R. I
have done a lot of work in Stata and so I have been using output
comparisons to get a handle on what is happening.
I estimated a simple linear model in R with lm() and also my own
maximum likelihood program. I then compared the output with Stata.
Two things jumped out at me.
Firstly, in Stata my coefficient

[LLVMdev] A question about alias analysis
Hello,
I got a strange result when I used alias analysis DSAA, can you tell what is
wrong?

AliasSetTracker AST(*AA);

3d interactive video using the rgl package
Hi all,
I've been using the 'rgl' package to visualise in 3d the water temperature recorded by a glider deployed off the coast of Australia (see snapshot attached). Using the writeWebGL function, I'm able to produce an html file of the scene with which I can then interact (e.g. zoom in/out, rotate) in my web browser.
In R, I have created another scene that includes a loop

Special Folder Mocking
Dear Dovecot List,
probably everyone knows the problem that different clients use different
names for "Sent", "Trash" and so on.
A simple question:
Isn't it possible to advertise one imap folder with different names,
depending on the client?
E.g. if the client is Outlook, show the "Sent" folder as "Sent Elements"
(translated from german) and if the

[FORGED] Re: polypath winding rule with transparency
Hi
Just to clarify, I think this IS a problem with grid.path() as well as
polypath().
For the example you give, grid.path() diverts to drawing a polygon
(because there is no 'id' specified), and the NAs in 'x' generate two
separate polygons, which get drawn one on top of the other.
The correct analogy to the polypath() example is ...
x2 <- matrix(x[!is.na(x)], ncol=2)

Slow printing on Windows XP SP2 -- no solution?
I browsed through some posts about this issue which I've been struggling with
for a long time now. Why is there no solution?
I think this issue has been discussed so many times (with no final solution)
that I don't need to rewrite the symptoms and logs. Printer HP LaserJet 1100
with latest HP drivers. Smb 3.0.7 (also tried 3.0.12pre with no difference in

smbd daemon uses all filedescriptors
We are running samba on a number of HP systems running HP/UX 11.00.
We moved from samba version 2.0.7. to samba version 2.2.3a.
We have about 200-400 smbd's running on one host.
Samba version 2.2.3a was running without any problems for about two weeks.
But now on two different servers indepent of each other, the file table
was full.
We found out that ONE smbd used about 5000 !!

hermite and Bezier splines
Does anyone know how to do hermite or
Bezier splines in R? I can find Matlab routines, but really need to
implement them in R. Failing that I'd be interested in other
conformal splines. I need to smooth and interpolate animal tracking data.

how to get the data in a circle
I want to get the data in a circle from a large square plot.
If the data includes only two columns or more columns which is number style,
I can do it.
But if the data includes other columns which is not number style (e.g.
species name), I donot know how to do it. And I donot want to delete the
columns because it is useful to me.

comparing random forests and classification trees
Hi,
I have done an analysis using 'rpart' to construct a Classification Tree. I
am wanting to retain the output in tree form so that it is easily
interpretable. However, I am wanting to compare the 'accuracy' of the tree
to a Random Forest to estimate how much predictive ability is lost by using
one simple tree. My understanding is that the error automatically displayed
by the two
