[SOLVED] mount.smbfs problem
Hi -
My messages may not be reaching this list. Would someone at least
confirm receipt of this message even if you have no suggestions/
comments re its content?
I have sent several messages concerning mount.smbfs and I guess
no one is using smbfs to mount a Windows machine -or- no one
has encountered my problem. To recap the problem and give a
solution:

smbfs and i/o errors
Hi guys,
I hope I've reached the correct mailinglist. I'm experiencing a problem
with smbfs. You can mount shares, but after a while, the connection is
broken and all sorts of strange stuff happens. I've got a share called
/mnt/ntshare which remotely mounts an NT host:
[arnow@foo /mnt]$ ls
ls: ntshare: Input/output error
cdrom/ floppy/
[arnow@foo /mnt]$

smbfs errors
Hi Samba-Team,
I have a Linux Workstation (Dual Processor Xeon, 800GByte RAID 10, Gigabit Ethernet). There is a Samba Server (2.2.0) on it and there is a mounted Share from an NT-PC (mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx, password=xxx //xxx/mount /home/mnt).
In the file /var/log/messages I have the following error Messages :
smb_trans2_request: result=-104, setting invalid
smb_lookup: find //xxx

smb_trans2_request: result=-104, setting invalid
Why do I keep getting these messages?
(from /var/log/messages)
I use RedHat 7.1 and have a coupple of shares on the machine on a bizzy
samba network.

Interesting errors...
Greetings,
About 2 months ago, we decided to backup our Oracle test servers via
samba rather than nfs -- the backups were just taking too long using
nfs. No problem mounting the remote file share to the server and the
backup took about one-third of the time. Yep, worked good...and still
continues to out perform nfs hands down.
Problem is - I'm receiving errors on both of the test servers.

What's Happening
Found these messages in /var/log/dmesg on a Redhat 7.1 machine running
Samba 2.2.2 accessing a Win 2000 share. Actually, there are a bunch of
tasks accessing the same share, complete with file locking, etc.
Any docs on what that error code means?
...Thanks,
...Kenneth

Dovecot stops talking to the auth server.
Hi,
I have an RHEL4 machine running dovecot-1.0.3 + postfix-2.3.2 +
postfixadmin + mysql-4.1.20-2.RHEL4.1 + amavisd-new-2.5.2-1.
The machine only has a gig of memory in it, I am trying to keep it
running until I get new hardware to replace it in a couple of weeks.
For the most part it works as advertised but every once in a while it
stops talking to the auth server. I think I have tracked this

USB sound card/ROCKY software/Softrock radio
I'm running a USB sound card (SB0270) as well as built-in audio to interface with my RXTX6.3 softrock radio, and I've been trying to get the Amateur Radio program "Rocky" to run. Rocky installs once you copy it to the C: drive and use the Explorer to start the installer, and it comes up, but you cannot select a sound card and after starting Rocky in Wine (.44), you cannot shut

where is glib-devl x86-64?
I have a brand new installation of Rocky Linux 9.1 (I know, this isn't a
Rocky mailing list, but I can't find anything on this on Rocky forums, etc.
so I figured I would ask here),
and I installed Gimp, and would like to install the Resynthesizer plugin
package.
Trying to compile it from source, autogen.sh complains that I don't have
the gimp development libraries installed. In fact,

smbmount/kernel 2.4.2/Samba 2.0.7 - Unable to use large files/directories
Hi there.
I'm having a very odd problem with samba. I have a Mandrake 7.2 linux
distro, though I've compiled a 2.4.2 kernel for it (with samba support
compiled in - not a module), and I've also compiled Samba 2.0.7. When I
mount shares from my win98 machines, if I try to list a large directory
or open a large file, the terminal freezes. I'm able to log in another,
but if I

Samba mount (from one of our build scripts). We decided to upgrade to RedHat
7.2 (which uses a newer version of Samba -- 2.1.1b IIRC), maybe that fixes
the problem. However, I decided to submit this bug report, in the hope that
it may help kill some bugs. (Remember -- the only good bug, is a dead bug
:))
So, here is the dmesg output:

Daily smb_trans2_request errors
Every morning at 2:02am, and 6:25am, I get the following two lines in my /var/log/messages:
Nov 6 06:25:15 borgCube kernel: smb_trans2_request: result=-104, setting invalid
Nov 6 06:25:16 borgCube kernel: smb_retry: successful, new pid=28929, generation=37
The pid always stays the same, and generation increases by 1 everytime it happens.
Currently I got one share from a W2K computer mounted

Samba 2.0.7pre4
Dear Sirs:
I wish to report my experience with the package.
I have compiled and used Samba 2.0.7pre 2, pre3, and pre4. I have not
had any trouble connecting to Samba's shares (from an NT client), but I
would like to report a problem with SMBFS and SMBMOUNT. NT4, SP5 shares
mounted into the filespace of the Linux box can disconnect over time
with two possible outcomes. The activity is

Rocky linux 9 - Samba AD
Hi Nico, that's amazing! Let me digest it because I am not sure if I can perform the installation properly. I will get back to you once done.
Thanks very much,

auto-gain, or different gain between incoming and outgoing calls (EURO ISDN PRI) ?
Hi,
I am using Asterisk with various brands and models of SIP phones. Especially
the Welltech phones LP201 are particularly nasty with volume and echo. Even
with the input gain (microphone) of the Welltech set to the max, the PSTN
end can hardly hear the SIP user on incoming calls. Ztmonitor also only
gives a level of around 3 === from the SIP phone.
I have to increase the rxgain and txgain

where is glib-devl x86-64?
I dunno. I guess it could be. Went to the Gimp site and saw that glib-devel
was mentioned there.
My tired old brain is a bit confused by this, since most other -devel
packages put -devel following the program/package name, and gimp doesn't.
I'll give that a try, though, to see if it takes care of my issue. Thanks!

Rocky linux 9 - Samba AD
Hello everyone,
I am looking dependency list to install Samba AD on Rocky Linux 9 but have yet to find any information. I found some useful articles for version 8 however, started to believe it's neither ready for Rocky Linux 9 nor other derivatives. Wondering it's true or is there any solution for it.
Many thanks in advance.
Best,
Metin
