chdir (/var/lib/samba/profiles) failed
L.S.
I've some problems on a couple of my samba servers.
The servers running CentOS release 5 with samba-3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4
The config is pretty standard, not much special in it.
But the log files are filling up with error messages like this one:

Able to Mount home, but getting failure errors in logs
Hi,
I have a few users that are creating errors like below. These users have mapped
a directory via Samba and also have it connected. They can access their home
directory or other directory via Samba fine, but it is strange that every hour
on the hour there is a failure put into the log (even though they are working).
My server is joined to the Domain and it is using

Hallo,
one of my colleagues has problems with Samba (V 3.0.32).
Samba runs on a Linux server (Slackware 2.6.29.6), some clients are
attached via a Windows Terminalserver.

Hey Gang,
I have a suse 8.1 server that I have compiled samba 3.0.2 from source on.
I have it configured to authenticate against our AD. That seems to be
working fine.
getent passwd produces the results from both passwd and AD. getent group
gives me the groups + the AD groups. I was able to assign the permissions
to the folder without problems. It picked up the group from AD and
assigned it

Understanding NT Groups and UNIX Permissions with Samba Shares
Hello, I am having some problems understanding a few concepts in Samba while
trying to use samba-common-3.0.0-14.3E, samba-client-3.0.0-14.3E and
samba-3.0.0-14.3E on RHE 3.0.
Basically, I have security = domain. My system is running winbind, I've
added the winbind calls to nsswitch.conf. I can get my wbinfo -u and wbinfo
-g commands to show me what I want. That all seems happy.
I have a

Samba from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23 (this problem also present in

I'm getting this frequently in our logs but I cannot replicate the
problem when I try. I have a user successfully map his home directory:

Unable to browse system shares of a newly migrated AD DC
Greetings, Rowland Penny!
Got some logs. But... they do not make much sense.
It seems to fail to chdir to /tmp. But I can do it with sudo just fine under
the same credentials.
What's going on?

Native mode switch causing "chdir (/path) failed"
We just switched our Windows 2003 Active Directory domain into native
mode and are encountering a strange problem: (Samba 2.2.8a)
It seems that group membership is not being honored when attempting to
access a share.
The shared directory has permissions like so:
# file: is
# owner: root
# group: DOMAIN\Domain Admins
user::rwx
group::rwx
group:DOMAIN\Domain Admins:rwx
mask::rwx
other::r-x

"chdir failed" - could someone please explain what this error mea ns?
For some time now I've had this type of error showing up in my logs:
[2004/09/16 11:52:08, 0] smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56)
chdir (/export/downloads) failed
I've Googled, I've looked at the source, and I still can't understand why
this error appears. What's really odd is that everything seems to work
fine, in spite of the error. Could someone please explain what

chdir (/root/tmp) failed - but why is it trying?
I'm seeing this in the log.smbd file for v3.0.28a.
[2008/04/14 18:29:16, 0] smbd/service.c:set_current_service(184)
chdir (/root/tmp) failed
This happens straight after a server startup if I connect to my HOME
directory (and I'm the only person using the server). It is noted in
the log (debug level 1) *before* the entry about me connecting to my home.
There is no mention of /root

Cannot enable browsing, chdir to /tmp denied...
Hello,
Samba refuses to be browseable. I started out wanting to configure it as a
PDC, just as I have done previously with samba 2.2.8 (and openldap).
smbclient -L localhost -U% gives "Error returning browse list:
NT_STATUS_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED".
Using debian 3.0r1, samba 3.0.0, openldap with nsswitch, etc.
I am a newbie at looking at the logs, I see the access denied

using Samba 3.0.10-Ubuntu. I see this folder in Windows XP but when I
try to access it I get error "\\My-computer\backup is not accessible.

Problem joining Windows machine to domain managed by Samba PDC
Hi, I am running into a problem that seems to occur to a lot of people, but
I haven't yet worked out what the solution is. I have Samba version 3.0.3
installed in a Linux box (let's call it linuxserver) and I want it to run a
Windows domain so that I can manage machines and users. I have a Windows box
(call it windowsclient, running Windows 2003 Server) that I'd like to join

I think this wont work since the user connectig isnt known in the AD,
since the user connecting is mapped to user nobody.

Slow Samba
I am running a Snap 4200 fileserver, which is a network appliance that
uses Samba to share files on a windows network.
I've been experiencing slow performance on the Snap. The issue started
suddenly 5 to 6 weeks ago, so I don't think it's a performance-related
problem. I SSHed into the unit and noticed some odd errors in the samba
event logs. They look something like this:
