2 gigabyte issue
I am running RedHat8, samba 2.2.7 The mailing list archives seem to pin the 2gb problem on several unrelated issues (all of which i explored). The machines in question have no problems creating 2+gb files locally and via NFS. Is this an issue with smbfs? smbmount? anyone have a workaround? -- 'As we enjoy great Advantages from the Inventions of others we should be glad of an Opportunity

howto improve sharpeness of fonts in a jpg-image produced by R ?
Hi. I've done a standard barplotexample using R1-8.0, redhat8, probably using a GhostScript-integration. How can I improve the "sharpness" of the fonts. See for example the barplot (originally jpg coming from R) which is part of this screendump: http://www.zug.dk/Members/Nielssteenkrogh/1067525916309553166/element_103003161029 I'm not sure where to improve the this. Freedomaudio player
Hi folks Got Icecast2 running on Redhat8 with IceS2 as a source, streaming some OGG files. All works nicely (not _especially_ reliable :) but it seems to lock up the Freedomaudio java player between tracks. Everytime a new file begins, the player stops and says 'Loading'. I'm wondering if it's somehthing to do with metadata - is there a way of disabling metadata from IceS2? (i.e.

copy of smbpasswd
Hi, I have to move our old samba file server to a new machine. The old samba server was a RedHat8 with samba 2.2.5. The new one is SLES9 with samba 3.0.2b-3.4 SuSE Is there a way to re-use the old smbpasswd file? In the log-files I can see that the authentication fails when I try to access a shared folder. A windows client keeps on asking the login and password. Is it possible to re-use

Filesystem returned to state of six months ago after fsck
Recently our sysadm accidentally powercycled our server (RedHat8) after 198 days of uptime, and upon boot it insisted on checking one partition (/dev/sda7) in our RAID. When it was done, the files were in the state of August 23 last year, with anything newer either gone or invisible. I guess something went wrong with journaling data. What can I do to restore the current state (except restore from

Configure DID Numbers with T1 Line & T100p
Hello Everyone, I am new to asterisk and linux too, I managed to installed asterisk on redhat8 with the help of mailing list archives and Handbook guide. I configured 2 SIP phones (grandstream) and it is working fine internally. We have T1 Line coming in with block of 200 DID Numbers. I want to assign DID Numbers to each of SIP phones as an extensions and able to call any PSTN line.

problems with R-2.01 build with Mandrake 10.1
I recently installed Mandrake 10.1 on my laptop, downloaded the latest version of R, compiled it and ran it. To my surprise I discovered that the X11() command returned an error to the effect that X was not available. Examining R config.log I noticed that there were several complaints about X and tcl in there. Basic include files, such as X11/X.h were not found. I have previously compiled

floor of n observations in number generators
I couldnt find a previous posting on this in the archives, maybe it has already been mentioned. If you use a calculation to generate n observations in random number generators and you don't round to the nearest integer you may be generating n-1 numbers not n numbers as you thought depending on the storage precision of the calculation. e.g. > m <- 1000 > pi0 <- 0.9 >

CAPI, BRI and grouping B channels
Dear All, I have a working asterisk installation in the UK on BRI point-to-point. I am using Redhat8 with one Eicon Diva Server 2.0 card with chan_capi-0.3.5 and Asterisk 1.0.1. I have got to the stage where I can make and receive calls over ISDN. My question: How do I group the 2 B channels so that when one channel is in use, the other channel is availble to receive[make] an

Why my script doesn''t work ???
Hi All, I''m using iptables-1.2.7a on RedHat8 kernel 2.4.20. I wanted to limit the file-sharing traffic to the internet. I marked the packets with iptables: iptables -A FORWARD -t mangle -p tcp -s 192.168.1.1/24 -d ! 192.168.1.1/24 --dport 1024:1862 -j MARK --set-mark 1 iptables -A FORWARD -t mangle -p tcp -s 192.168.1.1/24 -d ! 192.168.1.1/24 --dport 1864:65535 -j MARK --set-mark 1

Rocky linux 9 - Samba AD
Hi Nico, that's amazing! Let me digest it because I am not sure if I can perform the installation properly. I will get back to you once done. net ADS join MEMBER
In some spare time, been trying to get Samba 4.10.6-1 working on AIX. Several earlier posts handled by Louis and Rowland. Which were much appreciated and beneficial. Using this stripped (leaving comments out of it) GLOBALS section of smb.conf: [global] workgroup = boost realm = BOOST.COM server string = Samba Server Version %v interfaces = lo eth0

Samba 4.10.6-1 Configuration on AIX
Thanks to you and Louis for your guidance. I really apologize for my lack of knowledge of AD and Samba; and I appreciate your patience and willingness to help. And I apologize for not trimming the reply - don't know how much to retain... The referenced document seems to be leveraging domain services that we're not using. We are only using AD user authentication to access shares on AIX. No

Samba 4.10.6-1 Configuration on AIX
Thanks again for the continued help... Current thinking is using rid for the backend does not place any new administrative functions on the staff - agree? Begs questions of what is being written in smbpasswd, and do we have administrative work on AIX? Such as adding users and a group or two in the range specified for idmap? A mapping "table"? If rid is hands-off administration,

Weird DB Session error, "Mysql::Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query"
I''ve discovered something really weird in rails 1.2.3 (It could be fixed in 2.0? but I don''t know). Recently I started getting the error "Mysql::Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query" in my application. It seemed like it had popped up almost without relation to anything. There was a page in the RoR wiki with possible solutions but none of them had worked

2.2.7 to 3.3.12 upgrade issue
Upgraded an AIX Server from AIX 5.3 TL3 with Samba 2.2.7 to AIX 7.1 TL3 with 3.3.12. Client uses AD authentication. Upgrade did not change smb.passwd or smb.conf. Windows users trying to mount a share are presented a request for their credentials; whether they supply the AD or AIX credentials, the access is denied - "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." The smbd and

Domain Admins?
Hello all, Let me say first I'm very new to Linux (only had it running 3 days), so bear with me if I'm a bit ignorant. I'm unsure if I should even post this here, or if this list is exclusively for hardware issues... I'm running into difficulties (on a win2k client) adding the Samba "Domain Admins" group to the Windows "Administrators" group. I am able to log

Samba 3.6.23 (IBM version), Windows AD at the functional 2003 level
My apologies (again!) for asking about this old, venerable release. The client is upgrading to 4.10 or 4.11 in early December. The AIX server was joined to a functional Windows 2000 domain in 2015. The AD server has since been upgraded to functional Windows Server 2003 sometime since. They have 2 AD servers - primary is Joe, secondary is Jane. Joe has encountered severe Registry issues
