Appleshare IP 6.2 and smbfs
Hi, I'm having trouble connecting to an Appleshare IP 6.2 Mac that is doing SMB file sharing from my RedHat Linux 7.2 box. I've looked and looked and looked at many things and many SMB clients. I've tried smbclient, smbmount, Sharity, and even just doing a mount -t smbfs. All of them come back with something of this form: Protocol Negotiation Failed SMB connection failed. I

Questions on connecting to AppleShare IP via Samba
Dear Support: We have several Solaris 7 computers that need to be able to mount an AppleShare IP server to their filemanagers. Since AppleShare IP support SMB, I think that this is the best way to get these computers talking to each other. To that end, I've tried to use SMB to network the two computers. The Appleshare IP has two NICs connected to two different networks: One is Macintosh

Network Trash Folder - how to do it?
Hello,I saw on Apple mashines connected to AppleShare Server that they had something called 'Network Trash Folder'. That is if some is working on a server volume and deletes a file from the volume, the file appears in user's Trash on his Desktop (but?it is really placed on the server in volume's special folder called 'Network Trash Folder'). So he can restore the file if he

Dave clients accessing Samba
Hi, We have about 2 dozen Mac OS9 computers running Dave 2.5.3 to access smb resources. Our print server, running Samba 2.2.7 (w/domain authentication), has no user accounts. PCs access the printers and print just fine, but the Macs using Dave get an authentication error of invalid user/password. They can access resources on the win2003 PDC. Any idea what's going on here specific to the

build problems on Mac OS9
Hello, I have been able to build an Ogg Vorbis app on Win32 and Linux but I am having big troubles on Mac OS 9. If anyone has solutions to these problems I would very much appreciate it. 1) The downloadable SDK page with the prebuilt libraries is unavailable because http://www.vorbis.com is down. Does anyone know of an alternative site? 2) I downloaded the libogg-1.0rc3.zip from

Massive confusion with samba mounting
Hi, I have a dilemma - here's some background: Up until recently, a series of local scripts that run on our network ran on a Mac OS X box. I would like to migrate these scripts to a Fedora Core 4 box (for better perl, ruby, and pythoiin support), however, the scripts use directories in the Appleshare network. I have the /Volumes directory, in which OSX mounts the shares, shared via Windows

How to compile SSH on Jaguar (Mac OS X), technical question
Thanks to all the help I got in writing my HOW TO, im am getting closer to isuue it. I have just seen a file called: /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/sshHelper I wonder what will break, if I disable Apples own OpenSSH implementation. Would FileSharing not work anymore? Any workarounds known? Thanks for help, Robert Welz

FYI Appleshare IP 6.0 has SMB support
FYI There may soon be an alternative to running netatalk and samba to allow users of Macs and PCs to access the same drive. Anyone who wants to try a public beta can go to: http://www.apple.com/appleshareip/text/downloads.html Of course the Linux solution will probably run faster and on cheaper hardware, but it's an alternative for those that might need it. -- Jonathan Benson B.Eng. Mac Eudora and POP
I didn't get much joy in the list archives... Has anyone seen an instance of Mac users (OS9) using Eudora not being able to pop their mail? They can imap ok, just not pop (non-ssl btw). Nothing special in the logs... I'm not a Mac guy per se, maybe I'm missing something obvious? -- Chris Alexander UNIX Network Administrator, Information Networks and Systems Division

What does "vfs object = netatalk" really do?

dropped at change of song and...
I'm running Icecast 2.2.0 on a Windows 2000 server. I'm using Winamp with the SAM encoder plugin to stream an Ogg Vorbis stream (-0.55 quality stereo) from a remote machine. I'm having two problems. 1. The latest Winamp works great. Whamb on OSX works also (but no Title/Artist info shows up). But on other players (Zinf and Audion [OS9 and OSX]) it works great for one song. At song

Mac OS 9 and file type/creator
Hi, I'm using R1.5.0 on Mac OS 9.1 to create graphics as pdf files. One problem, admittedly pretty minor, is that the file type and creator are blank. Is there any way from within R of setting the file type and/or file creator of the resulting files so that OS9 can work out which program to open the files in? Thanks in advance, David Orme

Permissions and authorities
Hello, We've just migrated from Netware to Samba and have only 1 problem that's affecting our users. When a user creates a new document in a directory the owner and group or both set to root. The directories are owned by a specific user and there is also a group associated with the directory. I was expecting that any new documents created would have the same user and owner as the

Setting up VC6 to build VP3 source
All the notes you mention for VC are in vp32_build.html in the release, but thanks for reiterating. Last time I built for Mac I believe I did the os9 version in CW6 and the OsX version in CW8, but I can't think why they shouldn't both compile in CW8. <p>-----Original Message----- From: Tabuleiro [mailto:beta@tabuleiro.com] Sent: Thu 9/5/2002 4:25 PM To: theora-dev@xiph.org Cc:

Restarting
Greetings' i have installed a redhat 6.2 on my machine. I have also installed Samba 2.0.6 on it and seems working fine for almost a year. But one of my problem is "Disappearing Mounts". I always use this command ( mount -t smbfs //server/shared/ /mnt/temp -o username%password) for re-Mounting. But several days later... my machine keeps on restarting everytime we access the mounted
