User/Group HWM ignored when converting idmap from tdb to LDAP
Hi! I'm trying to convert my tdb-based idmap mapping to a LDAP-based one. This generally works as intended, with one exception - the highest uidNumber/gidNumber in use is not transferred, and this causes duplicate use of the same uid/gidNumber. Here's what I'm doing: 1) net idmap dump /var/cache/samba/winbindd_idmap.tdb > idmap.dump 2) Set idmap backend in smb.conf to

net rpc join fails the first time but succeeds the second
Hi. I'm having some trouble when trying to join a SAMBA machine, acting as a member server, to a NT-style domain server managed by a SAMBA PDC using an LDAP back-end. Both machines are running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.1 Update 3 for AMD64. When trying to add the member server to the domain, it fails with an error message. However, if I try to add it again, the

Samba behind firewall
Hi, I was able to join samba to the domain successfully (net rpc testjoin command says ok) but could not see it in network neighborhood. I can't map to it as well. The machine is sitting on a different subnet and behind the firewall. What port should I open to make samba accessible to all Windows XP client sitting on different subnets and not behind the firewall. I want to make samba

smbpasswd and /etc/samba/smbusers
Hi, I've been Googling around trying to found why I can't make SAMBA (concretely smbpasswd and pdbedit) make good use of the information held in the file /etc/samba/smbusers. I have done a clean install of Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4.1 Update 3 (both x86_64 and IA32) and Fedora Core 5. In all cases, running the following command fails: # smbpasswd -a Administrator New SMB password:

Samba with 389 Directory Server Auth problem
Hi Folks, I had a crack at setting up a Samba PDC using a fresh installation of FDS 1.2.4 as the backend on one of our RHEL 5.3 servers per the Wiki Howto:Samba but ran into a few issues. In the section 'Populating FDS with PDC Entry', it instructs the user to run 'net getlocalsid'. This results in the following: [root at mybox logs]# net getlocalsid

LDAP suffix question
Hi, I would like to have a DIT similar to this for my Samba server : ou=People,dc=domain,dc=com: users accounts ou=Group,dc=Domain,dc=com: groups ou=Hosts,dc=domain,dc=com: machine accounts ou=Samba,dc=domain,dc=com: Samba specific stuff, such as sambaDomain, sambaUnixIdPool, etc My understanding is that "ldap [user|group|machine] suffix" is relative to "ldap suffix".

cannot write to my shares
Hi! Well, I have a Linux machine (RedHat 9.0) with samba on it and a Win ME on the other machine and I want to share a partition for music, read-only. (Won't be hard, is mounted read-only) and a transfer share where I can write to, too. My config file looks as follwing: # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) # Date: 2003/08/04 23:05:42 # Global parameters

Group not found, (objectclass=sambaGroupMapping) (gidNumber=4294967295) ???
I am sure that I don't quite have LDAP setup with the proper Samba entries, but I only need a "bread crumb" to get me pointed in the right direction. Where do I find some information on how and where to place the sambaGroupMapping, sambaUnixIdPool, sambaIdmapEntry (automatically created?), and sambaSidEntry in the LDAP tree. Could someone just give me a little hint as to where the

hai, im still on holiday but i did see some things a bit, also in addition about the smb.conf in classic mode dns forwarder is predecated, so i suggest avoiding the option. this part, you set ssl off but also set the ports to the ssl ports. ldap ssl = off ldap passwd sync = yes /etc/ldap/ldap.conf BASE dc=mydomain URI ldap://sam3dc.mydomain ldap://sam3dc.mydomain:666 use URI

Samba4 + external ldap
After some reading and attempts, I managed to set the Samba4 with the external openldap. I tried to add a user through the command "smbpasswd", but an error occurred, which follows below: root at sol:~# smbpasswd -a billy > > smbldap_search_domain_info: Searching >> for:[(&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=POA))] > > smbldap_open_connection: connection

idmap LDAP backend
I'm trying to use the LDAP backend for the idmap database but I just can't seem to get it to work. There really is rather pathetic documentation out there on how to implement this. I've basically got my ldap server setup with an OU called smb and another OU under it called idmap. Here is my smb.conf file: [global] workgroup = HQ server string = Theo's Samba Server

smbldap-populate issues?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, I appear to have some issues with smbldap-populate, this used to work fine but I've recently upgraded the dev box from RH8.0 to Fedora Core 1, I assume it's related but I'm not sure exactly how... As you can see the first ou creates work, so it must at least be binding to the ldap server, but it seems to have a problem with the

Winbind+OpenLDAP: Id mapping data is stored partially
Hello to all, I have installed Samba 3.0.0 PDC + OpenLDAP 2.1. Additionally, I use "wbinfo -c" to create users and winbindd + libnss_winbind.so to resolve these users in Unix (SID <-> Unix id mapping). But I have found that users' data, created by "wbinfo -c" command, is not completely stored in LDAP backed. The "sambaUnixIdPool" objectclass is stored in
