Permission problems after an NT4 -> Samba LDAP PDC migration
Hello,
I replaced an NT4 server by a Samba 3.0.14a ldap server following the
instructions in 'Samba by example'.
Everything works fine except for some files on a W2003 SP2 server:
- when the W2003 server uses the Linux PDC, from a WinXP client, some files are
not writable, and ACLs can be listed but not changed.
- when the NT4 server is up, the same files on the W2003 server can be

ACK's overhead
Good day time!
We've noticed the following issue with Samba 3.0.1 on Linux. When SMB client
asks for the first time on FID for a locking or read request on an opened
file, it causes an ACK to be sent from client side. Windows server also
requests ACK BUT much more rarely.
Sending ACK causes additional overhead when working in heavy locking and
unlocking environment. Windows server

Cannot access share from Kodak printer
I'm trying to use a Samba (3.0.37) share on my ASUS RT-ac66R router as a destination for scans from my Kodak Office Hero 6.1 all-in-one printer. I'm currently getting an invalid User ID or Password error message. I have been unable to increase the Samba log level at all even after editing the log level in smb.conf. Before an old router running DDWRT (including Samba) failed, scanning to

Samba can't find file, NT can
We're having a problem with an application called Grade Machine
running on Windows 98 workstations. The problem occurs when
trying to save when overwriting the currently open class file.
It works on NT 3.51, it works on the local drive, it works
on Samba when short directory names are used, it doesn't
work under Samba 2.0.10 or 2.2.2 when saving to a file in
a folder such as "My

smbmount and PCShare [Helios]
I tried to mount a PCShare file system with smbmount and was
surprised to see that there is a problem while writing files to the
mounted file system. I can read everything and move things an
make directories within the shared file system. But if I try to copy
a file from the local disk (LINUX SuSE 8.1) to the shared file
system I get an I/O error. I suppose that this is not a permission

OS/2 client crash on "Find Close2"
Hello,
I have just migrated an old OS/2 file server to a Linux box with Samba
3.0.23a. Now the OS/2 clients crash from time to time. I found a way to
reproduce/force the crash using PMMail and did some experiments.
The popuplog.os2 on the clients (Warp4 and eComStation) always names a
sys3175 in pmshell.exe / doscall1.dll.
Using Ethereal and comparing the network traffic between a) a client

Please help me decipher a two-packet NetBT conversation...
My clients are Windows XP SP1 and SP2, members of a Samba-PDC NT domain
(tested 3.0.7 and 3.0.10, same result). Attached is ethereal output
of a two packet client-server exchange that takes place when an offline
files sync is done. SP1 quickly does this exchange twice - first
broadcast, then unicast (as attached) and goes on its way. SP2 tries,
pauses many seconds, tries again, finally

Neither scp nor sftp works (2.5.1p1 and Solaris 2.6) :(
Hi,
sorry about bothering you like this but despite several tries my recent
posts to ssh at clinet.fi never appear on that list, and I don't know where
else to turn.
I was unable to get sftp/scp to work when using OpenSSH 2.3.0p1. No one
could solve this problem and evenutally I was told to try "a recent
snapshot". Now I've installed 2.5.1p1, but still no cigarr :(.

Library without malloc
I need to set the content to 0 because actually is not using malloc(), it uses calloc() that does set the memory to 0.

Data movement across filesystems within a pool
I would have thought that the file movement from one FS to another within the same pool would be almost instantaneous. Why does it take to platter for such a movement?
# time cp /tmp/blockfile /pcshare/1gb-tempfile
real 0m5.758s
# time mv /pcshare/1gb-tempfile .
real 0m4.501s
Both FSs are with compression=off. /tmp is RAM.

IVT SCD serial port help
guys,
A bit off topic here, but since this issue already has a history here:
serial connection to the SCD, the never ending story ...
- the intel D945GSEJT mainboard (ICH7) has two serial ports with
onboard connectors which require a ribon cable to the external DB9
connectors in the case. I tested 5 cables, but none works. whereas I'm
not sure if it is a cable problem. this is what dmesg

Win2K, Unix, Mac OS via Samba and Helios
Situation: one unix fileserver with shares that need to be fully accessible
(read, write, execute) by both Macs and PCs.
Implementation: Unix fileserver uses (and has used for a couple of years)
Helios to manage Mac accounts. Recently installed Samba to manage PC
accounts. PC can connect to Unix via Samba.
Problem: If Mac user creates a folder or moves a file to a share, Helios
creates a hidden

Yanick & Jean-Marc,
First of all thank you very much for taking your time to try to help me.
Hi Yanick,
This is what I am trying to do, but for example the function SpeexPreprocessState *speex_preprocess_state_init has lots of pointers that are initialize with static inline void *speex_alloc (int size). So I am trying to convert all this pointers into arrays but it is getting messy trying

GNBD/LVM problem
Hello all:
I'm having a strange problem with GNBD and LVM on two fully updated
CentOS 5.5 x86_64 systems.
On node1, I have exported a gnbd volume.
lvcreate -L 500M -n mirrortest_lv01 mirrorvg
gnbd_serv
gnbd_export -d /dev/mirrorvg/mirrortest_lv01 -e node1_lv01
On node2 I have imported the volume:
gnbd_import -i node1
Next, on node2 I attempt to create a mirrored LV with the

I suspect that my problems may lie somewhere in the multiple domains /
subnetting areas, but I can't see where.
Any comments will be welcome. TIA
