Problem with opening Excel spreadsheets that client cannot write to
We have some Excel spreadsheets stored on our Samba 2.2.8 fileserver. The
permissions are set such that some users can write to these and some cannot,
but they can all read them (the world-readable bit is set).
When a user with read/write access tries to open the spreadsheet, there is no
problem. The user is happy and productive and outside the sun is shining.
Excellent! Have a biscuit!

Reading Excel Formulas as values
When I read excel files using the read.xlsx() command any cells that have
formulas in them come up as NA.
Is there a way to read just the numeric value of the cell without using the
"paste value" command in Excel? I need to read in hundreds of Excel
spreadsheets and compile them into one large super spreadsheet
automatically. Hence the reason I cannot reformat each sheet manually.

importing excel-file
Dear R-experts,
It is a quite stupid question but please help me. I am very confuced. I
am able to import normal txt ant mat-files to R but unable to import
.xls-file
I do not understand the online help. Can please anyone send me the
corresponding command lines? The .xls-file is attached. In my file we
use commas for the decimal format (example: 0,712), changes might be
needed.
Thanks, Corinna

importing data from Excel using RODBC
Hi,
I used RODBC to import data from an Excel spreadsheet "*.xls", but some
columns were returned as zeros. When I looked at these columns in Excel, I
found that thery are results of formula calculations and not entry. My
question is: Is there any parameter or command I need to use in order to
overcome this problem?
Thank you

Read & name multiple excel sheets using RODBC
I'd like to be able to read multiple sheets from an excel workbook and use
the sheet name to name the resulting dataframe using RODBC. at the moment
i've figured out how to do it the long way (see below) but feel sure that
there is a speedier & possibly automatic way to do it in R. i've tried to
run a loop using sqlTables but it seemed to break the connection. unless

xlsReadWrite Pro and embedding objects and files in Excel worksheets
Hans-Peter and other R developers,
How are you? Have you made any progess with embedding Url's in Excel?
Well, I have been busy thinking of more things for you to do;)
My colleagues in the lab are not R literate, and some are barely
computer literate, so I give them everything in Excel workbooks. I have
gradually evolved a system such that these workbooks have become

Excel export into R
Hello,
I have this in excel
Control
543_BU
123_AT
432_CU
I want to be able to import to R so that it will read like this
c<-c("543_BU","123_AT","432_CU")
output:
[1] "543_BU" "123_AT" "432_CU"
This is just a short version. I have about 200000 rows and i need a simpler
way instead of typing each one.
thanks

Excel
A common process when data is obtained in an Excel spreadsheet is to save
the spreadsheet as a .csv file then read it into R. Experienced users
might have learned to be wary of dates (as I have) but possibly have not
experienced what just happened to me. I thought I might just share it with
r-help as a cautionary tale.
I received an Excel file giving patient details. Each patient had an ID
