PXELINUX and PowerSave Mode ...
We have a lot of diskless Linux clients which are booting via PXELINUX or ETHERBOOT. The problem is that they are on for 24 hours and APM PowerSave mode works for ETHERBOOT only. But in the future we want to use PXELINUX only, which seems to have no features for APM or ACPI PowerSave included. Would it be possible to integrate such features in PXELINUX or is there a way to boot a special image

centos 7: trouble setting the ondemand governor
Hi, The default "stop" action for the cpupower service seems to be to set the ondemand governor, but this fails. I can reproduce the issue directly by running cpupower: $ sudo cpupower frequency-set -g ondemand Setting cpu: 0 Error setting new values. Common errors: - Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?) - Is the governor you requested available and modprobed? -

power management / tuned following external power source
hi, twice in the last week I've been caught out where the laptop was running tuned with 'throughput-performance' profile on the work table, and I walked away, carried on working - and had the battery run flat in just over an hour. Compare this with tuned running the 'powersave' profile - will usually take the battery through to 3hrs+ - and if i just totally turn down the

Re: Ext3-users digest, Vol 1 #793 - 9 msgs
It is most likely that your grub.conf file is _different_ than menu.lst. grub.conf is just a dummy symlink made by RH under /boot/grub as well as under /etc to make peoples lives easier. (Or harder as the case maybe) If the contents of grub.conf is what you want to use for your bootup listing.. cd /boot/grub mv menu.lst menu.lst.bak cp grub.conf menu.lst rm grub.conf #optional step ln -sf

How to mount ext3 root partition with noatime and ro options at boot-time
Hi all, I was trying to mount root-partition which is ext3 partition with noatime and ro option. I included "ro" in the kernel command line But for mounting it with "noatime" option when I searched for some solution I came across a patch http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/5/38 But after applying this patch and including option "noatime" in

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all, I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it. In my home .xinitrc setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 xset s off In /etc/rc.local /usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0 I've tried both to no effect. Of course

power management and ext3 - mount as ext2?
Hi, Newbie question here. I've read some about how you can't power down a disk under ext3 because of the journaling writes. I also know I can mount my ext3 partitions as ext2. What about mounting the partitions as ext2 while mobile on batteries? The hard disk would spin down when it wasn't in use (if noflush, etc. has been configured). But what about data integrity when

Ext3 Performance Tuning - the journal
Hello, I have some performance problems in a file server system. It is used as Samba and NFS file server. I have some ideas what might cause the problems, and I want to try step by step. First I have to learn more about these areas. First I have some questions about tuning/sizing the ext3 journal. The most extensive list I found on ext3 performance tuning is

ext3 waking hard disk
hi :) when using ext3, i can't get my hard disks to go to standby mode any more. i am using timeouts set by hdparm with 2.4.18 kernels. even when i issue a standby command manually, the disk spins up again after a few seconds. however, (to my knowledge) no user space program accessed this disk at that time. i suspect ext3's journal to be causing the disk accesses. is that possible?

ext3 fs: no userspace writes == no disk writes ?
Hello, I have a question about ext3 write activity. I am considering using an ext3 fs on a CompactFlash disk for my data-logging application (power can disapear anytime). The quantity & frequency of the data logged itself is not a problem at all considering flash wear. But I'm a bit worried about the kernel/ext3 doing regular writes by itself even when there are no userspace writes.

Performance ext3/hardware raid
Hi! Are these results i got from my benchmarking "normal" or is there something strange happening in my system? This box is going to be a mailserver, so i tested various fs to decide on which i should utilize. I personally dislike reiserfs because it has proven somehow unreliable on our servers (although it got better in the more recent kernels), ext3 would be quite good (fsck'ing

Ext3 - Frequent read-only FS issues
Hi all, I have a bunch of mail servers running postfix (external smtp), qmail (LDA) and courier IMAP/POP. Frequently, Ext3 filesystem goes into read-only mode forcing recovery using fsck. Below are the errors we have seen so far on these systems and those systems config. The ext3 errors are common in many cases. 1. copying files from ocfs to ext3
Hi, using ocfs-2.4.9-e-smp-1.0.12-1 on Redhat 3 U4 Trying to copy files from an ocfs volume to an ext3 volume is very very slow - talking a couple of minutes for a 100Mb file. same happens if I use o-direct or not, dd exhibits the same behaviour ocfs is in the updatedb.conf and both filesystems are in the PRUNEPATHS line in the same file (a reboot was done after the changes were made just to
