active connection gets lost in samba version 3.0 beta 3
Hi team, A Samba "panic" occurs after repeatedly saving "word" files on the server. Following the panic the "active connection" disappears, but the "active shares" and "open files" stay. Windows reports different errors such as "delayed write failed", "Cannot complete the save due to a file permission error" etc. Many of the

[patch] smbmount fixes for samba-2.0.7, testers wanted!
Hello all This patch tries to remove a few bugs from smbmount. It would be nice to get some testing+feedback on this from others using smbmount and possibly get these things fixed for the next release of samba. It does the following: * Change lib/debug.c to allow changing your mind on being interactive. A second call to setup_logging should now replace the effects of a previous call. (hmm,

Howdy, I've been following the thread at http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2003-August/101401.html, and, having encountered the bug mentioned, repackaged samba from CVS as of about five hours ago. Now I'm the smb service never starts, I'm getting the following (looped) when stracing the smbd -D process it runs (see end of message) Any ideas? TIA. Mike write(5, "

Setting Separate File server from Samba PDC
I'm aim to set up a file server that is separate from my SAMBA PDC. I've had no problem setting file server up, and joining it to he domain using smbpasswd. Can I use winbind with a SAMBA PDC or is it meant only for Windows NT servers. When creating shares on this file server, I need to allow permissions to various groups and or users. How can I do this. Do I need to set up NIS? Thank

Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when I connect to a dual-Athalon 2600+ Win2K system attached to the

Re: Below I am using samba samba-3.0.0beta2-1.i386.rpm I had previously been on the latest redhat version of samba ... I need large file support... Do you know of a patch for the newer sambas or do I have to go backwards? (see reference below) I have a samba-2.2.5-1.i386.rpm but then I have to patch the kernel... redhat have some many kernel patches that this would seem to pose a constant

Iconv support - Samba 3.0rc2/Solaris 9 (sparc)
Hi all, I have just compiled and installed Samba 3.0rc2 on Solaris 9 8/03 using gcc 3.3. sh makepkg.sh almost crashed the Sun box, as I ran out of swap space in /tmp. I didn't realise that the binaries were going to be over 800mb. The box came back after about 5 minutes and I was able to add more swap space using mkfile and swap -a. I think a warning would be a good idea, otherwise perhaps

When on a windows dekstop and trying to add a printer with samba as the printserver , the printers exported by the samba server are not seen by the windows "add printer dialogue" e.g.: relevant part of smb.conf: ----------------------------------- load printers = yes printing = cups

Minor probs after upgrade to 3.0.0beta2
Firstly, I am running beta2 as AD member. Auth through Winbind. Upgrading from beta1 to beta2 using RPM on RH 9 I noticed that Winbind will not start and smb will not stop using Init scripts. Seems to me RH9 /etc/init.d/winbind need the "winbind uid" parameter ? Here is the /var/log/samba/log.winbind output. [2003/07/04 13:54:52, 1] nsswitch/winbindd.c:main(811) winbindd version
