Connection by peers
Our Samba work very bad! My some users can't save changers in Exel and Word files. We have file-server ( Linux RH7.3, kernel 2.4.18, Samba-2.2.7a-1) We local network consists of 500 computers with NT Domain Controller (Win98,Win2000,WinXP,Microsoft Office 2000). The user opens a file, he changes it and sometimes can save a file, and sometimes no. Why? My smb.conf [Global] workgroup

samba 2.2.3a "Connection reset by peer" problem
Hi!! I have 4 boxes with RH7.3 and Samba 2.2.3a, and since we put them in a production enviroment we are having a lot of problems, 90% of the clients are win2k sp2. Sometimes when I try to copy a little file (20k) it lasts abot 30 seconds, and if I try to copy multiple files (about 200) or a bigger file (about 100Mb) start copying but in a few seconds it freezes and after about 2 minutes, ends

smb print server tries to connect back to client?
I have encountered a bizarre problem upon moving from Samba 2.2.2 to 2.2.4 on our local print server. When a client tries to map a printer, the server does a DNS lookup on the netbios name of the client, and tries to contact that IP address. This can fail in situations where the client's netbios and DNS names don't match, as in a wireless network user. The failure doesn't prevent

question about Samba share in HTTP root dir [repost]
Hiya, i have had a HTTP directory tree shared out via SMB on my HTTP development server for a few years with no trouble. recently however various files have started becoming read-only as far as my Win2k machine is concerned. upon ssh-ing into the tree in question i find all the permissions are fairly open and i cannot see why i should have any problem at all. i was wondering if this might have

Log: read failure for 4.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've been fairly vocal on the samba news groups recently due to a problem with one of my machines, in terms of reading files poorly. I had forgotten that my other machine had some problems as well. The other machines problems and this seems intermitiant, that accessing a file over long periods of time (like a movie) would cause the stream to stop,

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello, I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try. I

Read failure for 4. Error = connection reset by peer.
I am having a SERIOUS problem with our new 2.2.5 server. In fact I will probably be forced to move to a Windows 2000 Server platform, as the samba server is practically useless. Work on any files on the share cannot be done without major risk of losing data. I get these two errors all day: [2002/09/19 21:04:21, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) read_data: read failure for 4. CD sharing via iso9660, mounted, and samba
I have installed a small Limux box in my local primary school, in order to sahre CD iso images. The system works fine, untill several w/s's concurrently access the same program , whereupon, we get spurious crashes. I have tried disableing op-locks, which seemed to help, but only slightly. Any suggestions gratefully received. Shane oplock_break: no break received from client within 30

Disconnected...:( It MUST be a kernel problem OR a Samba problem.
Here's what you asked for - along with some tcpdump data that shows what I'm thinking the problem is...If anyone knows what this is - I'd LOVE to hear it - I've seen lots of posts about this type of error from others, and none of those folks have posted their problem being fixed (they probably gave up on it like I did for awhile...) lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) ...
Hello, I am administering several Samba PDCs (2.2.7a - 3.0.1) in different networks. The underlying OS'es are nearly the same on all machines, Debian 3.x and SuSE 8.x. The machines are also providing the following services to the clients: ISC dhcpd3, bind9 for dynamic DNS and lprng. Clients are running Win2K/XP. So far, everything works: domain logons, printing, file sharing. But I

Windows 7 RC1 Build 7100 Cannot Connect to Samba Shares w/Winbind
I'm doing some testing with Win7 RC1 and I'm having an identical problem with two CentOS servers (5.2 and 5.3) both running Samba 3.0.33 where I cannot authenticate. Both servers are authenticating with Winbind to an AD DC. I have a third CentOS 5.2 server with Samba 3.0.33 shares that does not use Winbind which has no problems. This pops up in smbd.log: (.200 is wireless and .184 is my

Client timeout problems.
I'm using Samba 2.2.5 with Win2k(and a couple of WinXP) clients. For a month everything has been running fine. Just recently I have started having problems with what seems to be the clients dropping their TCP connections. If you let the client sit for a while, even if it has a file open but don't save it, it will lose it's connection to the server. Running netstat on the client shows

Samba write errors, broken pipes and client lockups
Over the last few weeks I've had problems using Samba on a FreeBSD. Windows XP clients (that's all I have) would experience intermittent long delays (lockups, freezing) when accessing the samba shares using Windows Explorer or any other applications. This occurred both directly when browsing the network neighborhood, and when accessing the share through a letter drive mapping.

Problems connecting to Samba using windows XP
Hi, We are having difficulty connecting to a samba server using windows XP pro. Plain text is enabled and we can search for the server on the network, but as soon as we map a drive to it, it asks for a username and password. We enter this and then it asks for a password relating to a guest account. Can anyone help me with why it defaults to the guest account? Regards Phil This message

Hi Sambafriends ! I have done a migration from Novell to a Samba-PDC in a medium enterprise with nearly 50 workstations eight weeks ago. After a couple of problems the most things run well. But i have a few questions left and it would be nice, if an experienced user can help me: When i look at the /var/log/warn listing i still see some errors, and i like to ask you, if this messages are
