Authentication incompatibility?
I recently compiled Samba 3.0.23d on SuSE Linux 9.0 on an i386 computer. The software appears to work but its not compatible with other SMB / CIFS clients. If I use the newly compiled programs on two different machines they can login and browse each others resources using the 'smbclient' program. If I try to use a windoze computer, the Linux kernel (2.6.16.16 built on the same

Recommendation for a Linux alternative to Centos - ATH9K disaster
I persuaded a reluctant friend to buy a new computer. I enthusiastically extolled the joys and benefits of Centos and promised to install it on his new machine - dual booting with Micro$oft Windoze 7. His super-duper new laptop arrived. Acer, AMD 4 core, fast etc. but not as nice looking as my impressive HP DV5. The wireless refused to connect. After 8 hours on Saturday I could sometimes see

smbfs win2k 2.2.3a error
Fellow SAMBA lovers: I've been using 'mount -t smbfs blah blah' for over a year to do backup/restore. I recently upgraded SAMBA from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3a and the NT Server I was attaching to from v4 to Win2k. Now 'mount -t smbfs' returns an error. However, smbmount with the same parameters works, so I just changed the scripts to use smbmount. I suspect it's the Windoze server

Wine and Windows 2000
I had the latest wine running under winblows 98 SE for a week or two with no problems, then I installed winblows 2000 and now I cannot get wine to work. It is important for me to get it running again since I run United Devices cancer research agent (http://members.ud.com) 24/7 to help them find a cure for cancer. Is wine compatible with Win2k, or will I need to re-install 98 again? -- Interested

[Flac-users] BIG Problem!!! Help please!
Yeow! I have many files that have become unplayable. They are almost (but not always) the files of an entire CD. The error I get is FLAC_STREAM_DECODER_ERROR_LOST_SYNC. They played until recently using WinAmp and PhatNoise. They will not decode, returning a 0 error. I recently re-installed Windoze (XP Pro) if this might be a cause, but many of the files I had before the reinstall still do play.

Program cannot find COM ports
Hi! I have a problem running original Siemens Mobile Phone Update program. It starts but writes "No COM ports available" and then quits. I have my ports correctly configured but I didn't find any attempt to use them by the program (with WINEDEBUG=all). However, I've found an attempt to use the key "Hardware\\DeviceMap\\SerialComm", which is not present in any of

Debug/error codes
I know in some ways the answer is RTFM, but I'm not even sure which docs to read or where they are. I've posted about my printing problem before (Win2k SP2 won't print to my Linux server printer), and even though I've had some suggestions, nothing has worked (after a solid week of trying combinations in smb.conf, I'm close to having to drop Linux and go to a complete

.Rprofile under Windoze.
I am (for my sins) having to do some work using R under Windoze. I wanted to set up a .Rprofile to control my set-up. The docs on .Rprofile say that it can/should be placed in ``the user's home directory''. ``An Introduction to R'' observes lucidly that this concept needs to be clarified under Windoze. Following the suggestions in An Introduction to R, I tried putting a

[Q] GET_DIM() crash on Windows only
I have the following contrived code in package format. On Solaris and Mac OS X, code runs just fine. On Windows, it crashes the R environment with the "Send Bug Report" dialog. I tried R 1.8.1 (Win2K) and R 1.9 (WinXP) binaries with the same result. PCs otherwise appear properly configured for creating R packages. Anything blatantly wrong? Suggestions? TIA Relevant files from package

Win2k Roaming Profiles problems under NTFS
Hi there! I have a Samba 2.2.2 PDC on linux 2.4.13 with ACL (acl.bestbits.at) support installed. There seems to be a problem with Roaming Profiles. Win2k with local NTFS filesystem will never delete roaming profiles (yes, I have regedited the DeleteRoamingCache to 1). In fact, any time TheUser logs back in, a new folder named TheUser.OURDOMAIN.??? (where ? is an integer) will be created,

Local library on Windoze.
I'm mystified by a Windoze ``phenomenon'' which has just bitten me. I have a laptop which boots either Windoze or Linux; I (sad to say) need the Windoze OS for teaching purposes. I have R 1.9.1 installed on the laptop in the Windoze OS. Just now I decided to install, under the Windoze version of R, a library (``Misc'') of some local functions that I have collected over the

WINS problem
Greetings Earthlings: I finally convinced the LAN guy to remove NetBlooie from our windoze clients. I also made the samba box the local and master browser (we have no NT boxes at the moment). Local browsing seems to have gotten faster (at least Mr. Robinson's Network Neighborhood resolves faster). However, our LAN is isolated (windoze clients dial out to get to the internet, retrieve

Samba with Domain User accounts
I am trying to find an option to M$ file server under Linux. Everything to this point is M$. Whether anybody goes for it or not, I would like to put the option out there for choice. One of the important necessities is that this doesn't become any more complicated for the EU. As soon as you say Linux to the bosses they think more complex for the user and the users have trouble enough logging in

md5 fail on large file
Hello everybody. I'm experimenting this problem with samba 3.0.2a and linux 2.4.25 with ReiserFS. When I copy (put) a large file (5GB) from a Windows NT terminal server sp6a to the samba-linux box, the md5sum is different between the two file. Files size are identical. I'm using this command to copy these files from windows to samba: xcopy f:\ \\mimas\backup\exchange /e /c /h /r I have

Problem of accessing Redhat 7.3 from Win2K.
Hi there, I am new to samba server. I just installed the samba suite (samba, samba-common, samba-client) for Redhat 7.3. After started samba server, I found there is no way for me to access the Redhat machine from Win2K. From the Win2K machine, I can see the linux machine name under folder 'My network places' , but I always get the error message " \\machine_name is not accessible.
