Doubts about Winbindd
Hi, I'm trying to set up a PDC using Samba on a Linux server. I need to the linux clients, using KDE desktop, log in the PDC using the KDE login box. I think I could use the 'winbindd' to do what I need but, I still have some questions: 1. Do I need to set up winbindd on each Linux client to log on the Linux PDC ? 2. Do I need to set up winbindd on the Linux PDC

PDC/Roving Profiles/and Password Encryption
Hi All, Well, despite my general idiocy I've managed to get PDC and roving profiles working perfectly in my test situation. Obviously, this isn't good enough since computers are the devil, so I've run into some more problems. Fortunately for the Samba team, this isn't a problem with Samba - I think it's more a problem with how our network is set up here. Basically,

load password users in Ldap
Hello, I'm new in Samba Ldap. I use samba-2.2.3a and openldap2-2.1.4-46. I am going to load in Ldap a lot of users in a ldif file as it is shown below. But I don't know how to put samba password. I can use: smbpasswd juan1 and then the fields lmPassword and ntPassword are changed. In this way, after load all users in Ldap I would need a script to do a smbpasswd for each user

Samba + LDAP - PDC (i.e. workgroup)
There's lots of howtos and mailling list posts about creating a PDC with samba and LDAP. What I want to do is to continue with workgroup operation (at least until all our clients are NT). All I essentially want to do is to move the smbpasswd file on our 30 or so servers to LDAP (after sorting out nss and PAM). Can I do this? Also we have a replicated LDAP directory provided by our openldap

supress access to the /etc/passwd
Hi, I've just install samba 2.2 with ldap support, it is working just fine. I've create some samba users using smbpasswd and they are inserted into the ldap directory. But, I was wondering if it was possible to delegate the full authentification process to ldap. That's to say completely remove any information from /etc/passwd? Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- HTML

import_smbpasswd.pl for samba + LDAP
Hello All! I am trying to follow the instructions to store Samba's Uer/Machine Account information in an LDAP Directory (Samba-LDAP-HOWTO.html). Is there anyone knowing how to run this Perl script: "import_smbpasswd.pl" in examples/LDAP directory? I don't know Perl. :( In addition, is there more information/tutorial of LDAP available on line? Thank you very much.

Samba3 PDC + LDAP + winbindd?
Hi, I'm trying to set up a single sign-on system across both linux and windows with a Samba3 PDC and OpenLDAP backend. I've been trying to follow the documentation included with Samba3 but I don't seem to be having much success. So I have few questions. #1: What services are necessary for this to work? I know smbd, nmbd and slapd are for sure required. But I can't figure

Authentication
I am a relative new user of samba (well not to new), but I would like to authenticate samba through ldap, and ldap only. I don;t want to have to manage the /etc/passwd file aswell. Can this be accomplished all on 1 machine (for example running samba and openldap on the same machine), with the openldap db being the only user/group db I need to maintain. If so, can anyone point me towards some

pks for openssh
I was directed to the following site by one of our customers regarding a keyserver built into openssh. There's a patch for 3.4p1 on their site, but the license isn't very clear, nor is it clear if they have approached the openssh team regarding the inclusion of this subsystem into openssh proper. I've been asked to patch Mandrake's openssh with this feature, but I'm

Adding a machine; I think I am onto something
Parameters are: Samba 2.2.7a PDC setup with LDAP includeing posix authentication for Linux. OK, the tutorial I've based my setup on is the Mandrake tutorial found at http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/docs/ldap-auth.php Works great for autenticateing Linux from LDAP but it is really sparse on the Samba side of things. Esepcially when it comes to adding machine trust accounts. So anyway I

2 (Suse), one NT 4 server machine and 5 user databases???
I currently have a setup of 1 NT 4.0 PDC server and to SUSE boxes sharing via a samba share. I seem to have to make 5 different usename/password databases. 1 for NT, 2 for each SuSe box (One Linux and one Samba). Is there a way to have 1 or maybe two databases to update? I've read about LDAP on other connections but I'm a little confused as to what is the best approach. Oh

It is using HP UNDI PXE 2.1 (build 082) v 3.1.15 I successfully get an IP address from my DHCP server, but the machine fails when it attempts to make it's TFTP connection with: "PXE-E32 - TFTP Open timeout" It never gets the pxelinux.0 file. The odd thing I noticed was
