Can't use mount command with samba
I have a home network based on Win XP Pro, with one Linux machine
running Red Hat 9. All updates have been applied. There's no domain
controller.
I can connect from the Linux machine to the XP machines via Konqueror
using
smb://mymachine/myshare
However, I can't use the mount command.
I'm trying to use syntax like
mount -t smbfs -o username=myname,password=mypwd //192.168.0.1

Permissions and long filenames
I'm mounting my Win XP shares with the following syntax
mount -t smbfs -o uid=500,gid=500,username=me,password=mypwd
'\\myserver\My Documents' /myserver/mydocs
All of the shares are working correctly except for the My Documents
folder, which only has read permissions. All the shares are on a FAT 32
partition, and all have the same security settings (the Everyone account

I tried to unmount a btrfs filesystem located in a external usb hard

changing the start order of things, but it didn't seem to help.

smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi,
I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a
Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0
with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac
ran MacOS9.
The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb.
Here's what happened:

Slow Printing from XP clients with SP2?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
>From an XP machine printing to a SAMBA printer, printing is painfully slow.
Selecting the printer, and even sending the job through windows makes the app
appear non-responsive. The print job is completed fine, but just takes a long time
to print.
XP boxes with SP1 print like a dream. I've managed to replicate this on 4 boxes

upgrading samba
Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade my Samba from 3.0.4 to 3.0.7. Samba is my PDC currently.
Are there any issues that I need to be aware of before I upgrade? Will I need to
re-join the domain after the upgrade?

predict.prcomp: 'newdata' does not have the correct number of columns
Hi,
I'm doing PCA on wide matrices and I don't understand why calling
predict.prcomp on it throws an error:
> x1 <- matrix(rnorm(100), 5, 20)
> x2 <- matrix(rnorm(100), 5, 20)
> p <- prcomp(x1)
> predict(p, x2)
Error in predict.prcomp(p, x2) :

sum(..., na.rm=TRUE) oddity
Hi all,
I get two different results when using sum() and the switch na.rm. The
result is correct when na.rm=FALSE.
Linux Redhat 7.3, R version 1.6.1.
I've had no luck searching the mail archives, so I was hoping somebody
could explain/check this one for me. I will need to apply the function
to missing data, simple as it is.
Code:
x<-matrix(runif(20,0,5)%/%1,4,5) # random matrix

Lots of ERRbadfile and Expected SMBtrans2 responses with smbclient
Hi all,
I am using Amanda and smbtar for backing up Windows machines.
However, in addition to the errors I get on open files (which is to be
expected), I am getting errors on files that should be fine to access.
Here is a snippet from the Amanda log which contains smbclient errors:

Mount at boot - and a bug - where to report?
just in case you didn't put this problem to rest...
I found I got the "tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access
denied.)" when I removed my windows user from the administrator group
and I was mounting to a c$ share so I suppose the windows account
requires admin access if I'm authenticating with it from linux.
PS: this problem is best debugged from un/mount scripts and
