troubleshooting help
Hi,
I've installed Samba and started up the processes; however, I do not see the
Samba server in Network Neighborhood. In using the DIAGNOSIS.txt file, I
cannot get past test 3: ./smbclient -U% -L localhost.
The output is as follows:
added interface ip=140.188.120.55 bcast=140.188.120.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)
Any insight into this

[Fwd: Re: : Win XP Client does not remove directories]
Hello Mailinglist,
I still have the problem, which is described in my first and second post
with this topic, that i sometimes can't delete directories on the
Samba-Server from WinXP machines.
I can't send my Ethereal-Logs to the list, but i send them to Jeremy,
who never answered me anyway.
If anyone can help me or would like to see the Ethereal-Logs, with the
fact, that Windows

[Fwd: [Fwd: Re: : Win XP Client does not remove directories]]
Hi @all,
Can someone please just confirm me, that Samba doesn't remove a
directory in case of a "SET_FILE_INFO"-Request for this directory?
The following abstract is out of an Ethereal-Log and shows a
SET-FILE-INFO-Request for a directory:

Re: Win XP 'Network path was not found' Error when connecting to Samba s
Sorry, for the resend, but I found out another piece of information that may be helpful. I did a Ethereal check and then tried accessing the Samba Serve from my XP box. The Linux box got 3 NBNS Name queries on the Share Sambaserve and the response from the linux box was a ICMP saying Destination unreachable. Then 3 more NBNS broadcasts for the name query which Linux did not respond to.
Thank

Hangs trying to lock locking.tdb ?
Hi,
server Kernel: Linux 2.4.21
server Samba: 2.2.3a-12.3 from Debian package
Client : Win2k (& XP?)
We have a problem where when someone browses a directory on a share they
see a LONG (~1 minute?) pause. The server is very lightly loaded. This
doesn't seem to happen if they are logged on as nobody/guest, only if
they are logged on as a user; it happens for multiple

very low speed local network browsing from win xp clients
Hi Everyone there!
We have a very annoying problem since several months when browsing the local
network (workgroup) from win xp clients (from win98 clients it's almost OK).
The machines in the workgroup appearing very slooow (about 15-20 sec), and
this value doesn't change even in the 2nd or 3rd browse. We have 1 linux

Networking problems - Fedora 3/samba/Win XP
After pulling out most of my hair, someone told me of this mailing list. He
suggested you may be able to help. Rather than describing my problem again
(it goes on for a while, sorry). Could one of you brain surgeons look at the
following link and try and shed some light. Thanks in advance:

CentOS7 Minimal installation on Vmware missing network interface
Hi there, I'm playing with CentOS 7 (don't know if it's recommended at all
have this one as a development server as maybe is not stable enough yet)
and I installed it on a Vmware VM with two network interfaces: one as a
bridged connected directly to the physical network and replicating the
network state and the second one as a host only interface (the one I use to
manage the VM) so

Problem joining Samba 2.2.7 Domain with Windows XP
I am attempting to join a Domain named WORKGROUP on my Linux box running
Samba 2.2.7 from my SP1 Windows XP machine. Every time I try to join it says
that the Domain doesn't exist or could not be contacted. Many months ago I
was able to join all of our Windows 2000 machines to the same domain, but it
may have been an older version of Samba back then. Also, I haven't dared try

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello,
I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try.

Can Ping But No Web Interface
Try removing all MTU related settings from both sides. Allow tinc to learn
on its own.
" PMTU = 1436
ClampMSS = yes
PMTUDiscovery = yes"
in the config, " Address Family = ipv4" is likely not necessary, i would
recommend removing it.
" Device = /dev/net/tun" should not be used, unless tinc is having issues
locating the tun device.
however

VMWare; WinXP guest can browse every machine except host Debian, and vice versa
The setup:
My VMWare host is Debian 2.4.24, and runs Samba 3.0.2a-Debian,
on fixed IP address 10.0.0.9. Other computers can see and use
services on this server. Samba is browse master and domain master
browser for the workgroup. An external host runs dnscache and
a tinydns for the local domain.
VMWare is 3.2.0 build-2230, configured with bridged networking

OT: snow socket clusters with VirtualBox and VMware player (Linux host, Win guest)
Dear All,
I am trying to create socket clusters (using snow and snowfall) with a
Windows OS. I am running Windows inside VirtualBox and VMware player
(i.e., Windows is guest) from a Debian Linux host system (I've tried
in two different Linux systems, an AMD x86-64 workstation and an Intel
i686 laptop). However, almost always seting up the cluster fails:

Pinging win from FreeBSD
Hello Samba folks,
I thought you might be able to help me.
I have 2 machines, 1 is FreeBSD, 1 is win95. They can't ping each other, but
the bsd box comes up in Network Nieghborhood when Samba is active. What's
going on? Is it not possible to ping a windows machine from a unix box? They
are on the same hub via UTP. IPs are 192.168.1.x and netmasks are same
(255.255.255.0).

migrate a guest from VMware to KVM
I am trying to migrate a VMware guest to KVM. I have the .vmdk file which I
convert to qcow2 format using qemu-img convert.
The next step is to import the new img file.
If I use virt-install --import <guest config options> it all works fine.
But when I try the same think using the libvirt API I get the "no boot disk
found" message when starting the vm.

Windows XP - samba 1.1.9 slow file transfer problem
I'm experiencing a problem with slow file transfer from a Solaris 2.6
Samba 1.1.9 server to Windows XP clients. This problem does not occur
for Windows 2000 clients. In attempting to troubleshoot the problem,
I've run Ethereal on both clients and noticed a marked difference in
the logs of a transfer of the same file from the server.
The Windows 2000 logs shows AndX SMB requests and
