Setting up home directories.
/* * If this did actually make it to the list already Im sincerly sorry. * It appears subject only in the linux.samba group. */ Hello all, I have a couple of questions about using the user home directories. Is it necessary to keep the smbpasswd file in sync with the passwd file. When user level security is turned on. From what I have been able to figure out is that these files do not

Problems streaming high bitrate over a LAN
I am trying to stream various 320kbps MP3s across my 10Mbps LAN. Either locally or across the network, freeamp and xmms prefetch a chunk, then play it, then fetch another chunk etc. No continuous streaming. shout gets a lot of !s between its "."s when sending the file to icecast. Any ideas? -- Always hardwire the explosives -- Fiona Dexter quoting Monkey, J. Gregory Keyes, Dark

Latest icecast and memory usage
I'm relay-pulling a radio station through the latest icecast, so that I can play it localy while downsampling it in a VMware box and reshout it back out. However, every week I do it, icecast seems to grow up to 32 megs large in memory for each process (confirmed by top, it may be shared) and push almost everything out to swap. I'm using Linux 2.4.3. Is there a memory leak in

Samba Printer - Access Denied, unable to connect
Hi, I have a Samba server with a local printer attached to the Linux system. In the past, I could print documents fine from my Windows PC. Now, I cannot figure out why I cannot access my system. It has been like that for a while and I put it on the back burner. Initially, I thought it was the printer port screws were loose and were responsible for not printing. I have them tightened and

question on downsampling
Hi, Maybe a bit off topic for this list, bt anyway. I have received several feature requests for DarkIce to support downsampling of the audio input before passing it to lame or ogg vorbis. For example the audio read from the soundcard would be 44.1kHz, and lame would get it at 22.05kHz. I figure two ways of doing this: 1. For lame, one can specify the input and the desired mp3 sampling rate,

Not a valid SIP contact - Asterisk 1.4.21.1 & Mitel SIP phones
Hi, I have a client using Mitel 5212 phones in SIP mode with a 1.4.21.1 Asterisk server (and a couple of previous 1.4 versions). They're mostly happy with the combination except for this one issue. For incoming calls only, either originating from other local SIP phones or from a PRI, calls won't get bridged (remote party get's hung up) if the call is answer too quickly on the

classic upgrade, splitting servers
Debian 4.2.14.. Hmmm. This is why i make the 4.5.x and 4.6.x packages. I suggest, or wait (few hours) and upgrade to my 4.6.4 package or get the 4.5.8 package for my apt now. I'll do the 4.5.10 after the 4.6.4, im moving in office to 4.6.4 due to the many bugfixes ive seen. I'll post on the list when these are ready. Not to long now, if im not typeing here.. ;-) Greetz, Louis

plans for lenny-cran? can I help?
Hi, I'm running a highschool network with Debian etch and the etch-cran "backports" on top of it. Being bio-informatics, the newest R is essential to us. I did some upgrading experiments; switching to ubuntu is not an option, neither is fetching the sid debs for r. When trying to upgrade from etch to lenny with etch-cran packages installed things block on etch-cran dependencies.

Confusion about linear prediction within flac
Hi, I'm researching lossless compression for a highschool mathematics research essay and am fairly confused about how the linear prediction coefficients are solved for within flac. As far as I understand, Levinson Durbin Recursion is used to solve for these coefficients, however, what I don't understand is what the toeplitz matrix is composed of. I found sources using samples from within
