RH9, Samba 2.2.8a and printing with CUPS
Hi there I just installed the above mentioned system and try to print from a W2k box to the Samba box but nothing happens. There's no problem in printing from the RH box or via Webmin but when I try to print from the W2k box nothing happens. I don't get an error or anything. I installed the printer by the help of the add printer tool in RH, and simply go to the Printer--->Add

samba.
Hi. I run SuSE 8.1 and samba here. On the linux machine I have a HP1100A on the parallel port, and a HP-DJ895Cxi on a USB port. I can print ok from this linux machine to both printers. From my laptop, that runs WIN98, I can print to the HP1100A printer. I cannot print to the DJ895Cxi, even if its set up as a network printer. I could do this with SuSE dists up to 8.0. From 8.1 printers are

cups printing
I have searched around the samba documentation, including the smb.conf man page, and have found nothing regarding the cups printing system except change printcap to cups. Now, I have done that, but printing still does not work. I need some types of details and a sample smb.conf and/or any other relevant documentation. Thanks much, George D. Plymale

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.

No joy adding a CUPS printer
I'm trying to change my Samba setup from LPD to CUPS, with little success. I've followed [and re-followed] the setup documentation from CUPS and I just can't get Samba to recognize my printer. The catch is - it sort of recognizes it :-( First I added these lines to my smb.conf: ========================================= [global] load printers = yes printing = cups printcap name =

Difficulty with Samba 2.2.8 and native CUPS PS drivers
I've recently attempted to convert from the Adobe PostScript drivers for my Canon BJC=2110 printer over to the native CUPS Windows PS drivers and can't quite get things to work correctly. After deleting the printer on my WinXP SP1 clients, verifying under "Server Properties" that the Adobe driver was removed, then reconnecting to my Samba printer, I connect fine but receive

CUPS vs lprng
Could I get some opinions on which type of Samba based printing is easier, CUPS or LPRNG, or just bybass Samba altogether. I'm looking at the Printing HOWTO by Kurt Pfeifle (Printing Support in Samba 3.0) and both look really complex. Anyone out there have any experience with printing services in Samba? Should I just stay away from samba printing and go direct to Network printers? What

G.729 patent in France
Hi all, I am building an Asterisk PBX with voicemail and music on hold functions. An ISDN BRI line will also be available and G.729 IP-phones will be used. Are there patents rights applicable to France? Which licence could I use and how many ones are required (only one per phone or also for voicemail and MOH)? frustrating - which ppd for win clients
I have had terrible luck trying to find a ppd that works correctly for both win9x clients and winNT/2000/XP at the same time. The CUPS method is to find one ppd that works for all and I have tried several: those at linuxprinting.org, hp's sourceforge site, vendor winNT ppds (docs suggest these), and vendor win98 ppds. I have tried filtering PJL and not filtering PJL. I have the stock

Hi, Samba list readers, I am forwarding these mails from one of the Linuxprinting.org lists to you (with the $SUBJECT changed by me), because surely some of you must have been bitten by this too.... This problem is verified on W2K (but not yet for NT/ME/XP/9x). Cheers, Kurt ################# problem description by Elena Khan #################### -------- Original Message -------- To:

Howto install multiple printers using the same driver for Samba on Linux?
Hi, I would like to install multiple printers (about a hundred) to my Linux site. I have created a smb.conf-file with all the printers (and also a printers.conf as I use CUPS for printing). The printers are e.g. HP LJ 4050 and I do not want to install every one the manual way (I use NT for that). When I manually installs a printer e.g. HP LJ 4050 with driver within lj345.exe from microsoft, the
