box standard kernel 2.2.x failes to mount cleanly unmounted ext3 partition
Hi Everyone! Just to let you know, I am very happy ext3 made it thorugh to linux kernel 2.4.15 We have installed ext3 on several machines here at jtrix.org (including two laptops) and everything seems to be working fine. Our only concern is for our two public servers. They run linux 2.2.19 for stability reasons. On one of the laptops (dual booting 2.2.19 and 2.4.14) kernel 2.2.19 failed to

root fs mounts as ext2, others ext3
I have ext2 compiled in the kernel (so i can mount the initrd image), all other filesystems are modules. The initrd image contains aic7xxx, jbd, and ext3 modules. /etc/mtab reports the filesystem mounted ext3 /proc/mounts reports it mounted ext2 /proc/filesystems lists ext3 If I umount other partitions that are ext3 the module becomes 'unused'. The filesystem was created

ext3 on debian-HPPA Linux?
Right now I'm building a 2.4.17 kernel on an HPPA Linux system. The kernel it ships with supports ext2 only. Getting ext3 up and running
I have a Debian system from a Knoppix distribution. I started out with ext2 but decided to change to ext3. tune2fs -j OK. However the system boots with a warning ....ext3 mounted as ext2. proc/mounts confirms this and no journal is running. So I have to make an initrd. Did so using instructions in the Debian Reference and this did not change anything. Any attempt to use the img produced was a

slowdown and reiserfs
hi i got 2 questions and maybe someone could shed some light: a) i'm using kernel 2.4.17 and use ext3 in it. is it possible that the whole system is slower than with ext2? i switched back to ext2 (great feature!!!) and the system's response seemed somewhat better. should/could there be such a effect as double writing of journaled data? i didnt activate debugging (jbd). b) is reiserfs

Hard disk failure, can't read journal
I can not start my laptop anymore, due to what looks like a physical HD failure. During boot I get: hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 { Uncorrectable Error }, LBAsect=260112, sector 51144 and then JBD: Failed to read block at offset 5864 JBD: recovery failed EXT3-fs: error loading journal then the laptop is frozen. 2.6.22-rc1 killed my ext3 filesystem cleanly unmounted
Hi, I just tried the 2.6.22-r1 candidate to test whether some bug I have hit in the past still exists. I did use 2.6.20.6 so far. So, I have cleanly rebooted to use the new kernel, after the machine came up I tried to mess with the bug, and had to reboot again to play with kernel commandline parameters. Unfortunately, on the next reboot fsck was schedules on my filesystem after 38 clean

Redhat Roswell
Hi all i installed Redhat beta Roswell, then i updated to Kernel 2.4.8 patched him and installed the newest util-linux + e2fprogs without any custoumized Options. Bootloader is Grub. Now when i boot he says mount -O or -0 is an invalid Option. tune2fs -j /dev/hdXX says "The filesystem already has a journal" lsmod says that no jbd or ext3 Modules is loadet but i have pachted the Kernel

converted ext2->ext3 root won't mount on boot as ext3
Kernel 2.4.8 on an Athlon 500. e2fsprogs-1.23 ext3 compiled as a module. I used "tune2fs" to make /boot and /home into ext3, and remounted them OK. (I am so amazed to see the system come right back without an lengthy fsck on these two file systems after a power off! Well done!) I also used "tune2fs -j" on /, it created a /.journal file. The debugfs features command shows

Mounting / as ext3 when ext3 is modularized in 2.4
Hello, I recently switched from 2.2 to 2.4 kernel. Each partition already contains a journal. I tried kernel-2.4.5-0.2.9 from RedHat Rawhide, where ext3/jbd is modularized. For the people who want to try this kernel, you first need to rebuild it, and enable CONFIG_JBD_DEBUG. This solves an unresolved symbol in jbd.o which prevents ext3 to load. (This issue will be solved in next RawHide) My

FS locks
Hello, unfortunately I got some trouble using ext3 - the system hangs when working in a certain directory. Not completely, I can switch between consoles and reboot with SysRQ, but cannot do anything which requires disk IO: not start any applications, not umount, nothing. I could send the strace output, but I don't think this would help anyone. Sorry, but I don't have a clue where to start

ext3 partition still gets mounted as ext2 for me too!
Hi, I am a new ext3 user and I am having problems similar to what many people are facing on this list. I have done everything as the emails suggest. I am using SuSE 7.3 with the the 2.4.10 kernel and ext3 compiled as a module. Because it is 2.4.10 kernel, I created all my journals from a rescue disk and everything seems to be working right for the non-root filesystems. My fstab has all my

More ext3 fileserver woes ...
Well.... you might remember that I have had problems will my NFS fileserver that run ext3 with data=journal. The filesystem corruption now seems too be solved with the patch (plus amendment) that I posted, so I am happy about that... but there is more. I have known for a while that ext3 doesn't behave very well when the journal fills up. If it finds that the journal is full, and the

Accordding to your documents it should create '.journal ' file at / directory but in our case it not creating '.jornal' file. This '.jornal' file is required to change ext2 file system to ext3 file

ac4 ext3 recovery failure
Rebooting to try 2.4.7-ac4, I had Xfree86 crash on exit and hang the machine (it does that once a month or so; this notebook gets booted quite often). After fscking the root and another ext2 partition, the system got to the big ext3 partition and just went dead. No message, no disk activity, no keyboard response. I powered down and rebooted 2.4.7-ac3 patched with ext3-2.4-0.9.5-247ac3, and that

booting from copied ext3 software raid fs to normal fs
Hello. I am trying to boot CentOS 4 from a copy of an ext3 software RAID 1 filesystem (md) which has been copied to a normal ext3 filesystem (hd). I am almost getting there, exept that the system hangs after booting the kernel. I copied the datas from the /boot and / partitions to two similar partitions on the backuped disk with mirrordir (can also be done with cp or dd). I have setup the new

not mounting ext3, 2.4.10
Hi, I just attempted to convert my only partition, /, to ext3. I downloaded the patch and compiled the kernel with ext3 support built-in, along with the JBD Debugging support. Compiled the kernel and rebooted, everything was fine. Did a tune2fs -j /dev/hda2 on the partition in single-user mode, with e2fsprogs 1.24a. It complained about not having enough space, or something like that, (I have
