ext3 + external journal -- Howto..
I am new to ext3 + external journal. Is there any howto I can look at?
this is what I understand
1. mke2fs -O journal_dev /dev/md5
2. mke2fs -J device=/dev/md5 /dev/md0
3. mount /dev/md0 / -t ext3 ( hmm.. what do I need to put on fstab?? )
/dev/md5 is a two drive RAID 1 partition
/dev/md0 is a 4 drive RAID 5 partition.

EXT3: failed to claim external journal device.
We are having problems remounting an ext3 filesystem using an external
journal device. The filesystem in question was working fine until the
server was rebooted.
This is what we see on dmesg when trying to mount:
EXT3: failed to claim external journal device.
The external journal lives on a LVM2 logical volume and it seems to be
accessible ( we can dumpe2fs and see filesystem information).

original FS; /dev/emcpowerl1 which is in

Mac can't connect to debian after upgrade to Samba 3.0.23
After upgrading my Debian box to Samba 3.0.23, I'm no longer able to
connect to it from my Mac OS X 3.9 machine. I can still connect from the
linux box TO the mac, but not the other way around. I need to be able to
mount the linux volume on the mac. I've had to downgrade to samba 3.0.22
on linux to get it to work. My home network is a simple 2 machine setup
with a wired connection. My

OT: Quick ext3 command
Hello,
Sorry for the off-topic, but I've just installed CentOS 5 on my home
box and I want to put the journal on another drive. I created a
software RAID-1 device, /dev/md1, and formatted an ext3 file
system on it. Now I want to move the journal to /dev/hda5. I've
googled for this and the process appears to be:
mkfs.ext3 -b 4096 -O journal_dev /dev/hda5
mkfs.ext3 -b 4096 -J

Again kea DHCP-Server
Well? I?m not convinced KEA can?t be simple DHCP, though I understand that one
would never know that from reading the KEA documentation.
The following is a complete KEA configuration suitable to do a single subnet. In fact, you could probably get away with slightly less.
I?ve replaced the unique addresses from my environment with placeholders (e.g. <network/mask>), but otherwise, this is a

Major problem with software raid
Ok, this is the case:
I've got two raid-5 arrays with software raid, both with three disks.
Setup:
md0 has hdb2, hdd1 and sda1
md1 has hdb5, hdd3 and sda3
Tonight, the system lost power due to a power spike. The result was a reboot
where it attempted to fix the raid, but it didn't exactly work. I have now
booted a live CD and using utilities there.
It seems the checksum value is

ext3 performance with hardware RAID5
I'm setting up a new fileserver. It has two RAID controllers, a PERC 3/DI
providing mirrored system disks and a PERC 3/DC providing a 1TB RAID5 volume
consisting of eight 144GB U160 drives. This will serve NFS, Samba and sftp
clients for about 200 users.
The logical drive was created with the following settings:
RAID = 5
stripe size = 32kb
write policy = wrback

DHCP timeout and mysteriously dropping IP address
Hi everyone,
I'me having trouble with a CentOS 7 guest running on a Hyper-V host. For
some reason, the CentOS guest randomly drops its IP address. Running
"systemctl restart NetworkManager" on the console will restore IP
connectivity without a reboot. I think that DHCP is timing out, but I'm not
sure what to do about it. Is there a way to tell NetworkManager to keep
trying after

reading ufs2 filesystems with centosplus kernel
Hello,
I'm running centos5 with the centosplus kernel v2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 and i'm
trying to read a drive that has a ufs2 partition on it. It was originally in
a FreeBSD machine and has some data i'd like to get at. Googling indicated
this should work with the command:
mount -r -t ufs -o ufstype=ufs2 <device> <mountpoint>
device is /dev/hdb5 and mountpoint is /mnt.

help
High all,
In WinXP, I have created file "image.iso" using mkisofs, but unable to
postprocess with the "isohybrid".
I worked as follows:
cd F:\syslinux-4.05\utils
F:\syslinux-4.05\utils> isohybrid F:\image.iso
and received >'isohybrid' is not recognized as an internal or external
command,
operable program or batch file.
What next?
Thanks in advance.

Loss of DHCP destroys bridge
I am having trouble with recovery. Today due to electrical work I
powered down my networks Router / DHCP server.
My Centos 7 host machines lost their DHCP lease (they are actually
static leases). Once I power my Router / DHCP server back up none of my
virtual machine were accessible. It appears that when the DHCP lease was
lost on the virt server the bridge of the KVM guest were all losts. A

external journal
Hello!
I have some questions about external journals.
On a 4 disk software RAID 5 I have two big devices (one 60 GB, one 180
GB). I would like to give each an external journal on a 2 disk software
RAID 1 device and use data=journal.
The journal will get its own partition with mke2fs -O journal_dev
/dev/mdwhatever.
The used 6 harddrives are all IDE drives, they are connected through

ext3 external journal and fstab
Hi again!
I would like to add an ext3 partition (eg. /dev/md11) with its external
journal (on /dev/md21) to /etc/fstab in order to have it mounted while
system-startup.
Do I have to specify the external journal device in fstab or does the
partition find its journal device by itself? If the first, ho should I
specify it?
I created the journal with mke2fs /dev/md22 -O journal_dev and the ext3

AD DC DNS question
OS = Ubuntu 18.04 in an LXD container
Samba 4.11.x and up
Is there a way to have DNS resolution on the server that can coexist with
the samba ad dc internal DNS server? The way that I have it set up,
whenever samba is not running, then I can't use any web resources b/c
everything goes through the samba internal DNS. So I can't do system
updates and upgrades unless samba is running.
