Slow printers share
Hi there, I have set up a server to act as a PDC, file server and print server for a record store I occasionally work at. Everything is working fine, except browsing the printer share is painfully slow. It's not really a problem, but if something is wrong I'd like to know what it is. smb.conf contains ---------------------------------------- [global] ... printing = cups printcap =

SetPrinter call failed
I am having trouble getting the cupsaddsmb script to work to add the drivers. Everything seems to work (it copies the drivers to the correct directories), but I keep getting the result NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL error message on the rpcclient setdriver command. When trying to connect to the printer from a 2K client, I see a client-error-not-found error in the log. I can't seem to find

Windows 2000 printing to public printer
Greetings, I have setup a Linux Samba server with guest access to the printers and a share (/tmp). I can access the folder share from a Windows 2000 Workstation with the guest user all right. However, when I try to access the printer I get "Access denied, unable to connect". The samba log for this machine shows the following error: ---------- [2003/02/07 18:07:14, 0]

Access Denied to Printers
Hi! Trying to trace down a problem with printer sharing. I don't see anything glaringly obvious with my smb.conf. I am using LDAP and CUPS. Using a Windoze client, accessing a printer I receive the friendly "Access denied, unable to connect". Checking the Samba logs, I find: [2008/11/07 18:26:08, 0] param/loadparm.c:process_usershare_file(8268) process_usershare_file:

Using win2k non-pdc as password server
Hi, I'm trying to get Samba on a Linux box to work. Authentication via user level worked fine, but what I really want is it to take user authentication from a win2k box, which is our "primary local server". The win2k box is not a pdc, (the real pdc is 2000km away, close to the polar circle), but according to the docs it doesn't have to be. So in smb.conf I put: security =

Strange error.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: RIPEMD160 Jerry & Others, What does this error in my logs mean: [2005/10/06 08:50:47, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(798) ~ james (192.168.100.158) couldn't find service ::{2227a280-3aea-1069-a2de-08002b30309d} It could be that I don't have any shared printers setup; but, the error doesn't suggest anything intuitive. Thanks, James

Samba-Cups: all works except browsing when printer is not defined in smb.conf
Cups 1.2.7 Debian Etch with Samba 3.0.24 Clients: WinXP SP3 (with Firewall completely off for testing) When I define a printer specifically in smb.conf, they show up as shared printers in WinXP. But when I follow the normal way (see below) to load all from cups they don't. I followed mainly the latest SAMBA-HOWTO (chapter 21-22) The only error I see in log.smbd when accessing the

adding printer driver to a printer
Hi, I'm using debian woody with samba (2.2.3a-12.3). After installing 2.2.8a everything that worked, still works. What didn't work, still doesn't work. Sharing files works properly. I'd like to share a printer via the samba server. When I go to the printers&faxes share in explorer, no printers are shown. Hereunder is my smb.conf, /etc/lprng/printcap, and the logfile

Unable to enable Add/Remove Printer Drivers (3.0.0)
I used to be able to load printer drivers via "server properties". Now when I go in the printer drivers are listed and I can use the properties button but the Add/Remove buttons are greyed out. This is a Samba 3.0.0/2.4.2-SGI_XFS_1.0 box and I've tried both NT4sp6 and Win2003beta clients (both exhibit the same behaviour). I see the following in the log when I connect to

Cupsprinter over samba won't work for w2k clients
Hallo! I installed Samba 3.0.1 on Deb Woody 3.0 with Cups 1.1.19 and joined to an NT4 Domain without problems, after solving the "Umlaut" problem. Unfortunately the System was installed in german... I read a lot in the Samba HowtoCollection and installed the printer following to it step by step. Added the printer driver via APW, then connected from the Client and changed some

How to "recover" the printer drivers?
Samba 2.2.8a-1, RH8. ... So, I had to reinstall. Fortunately I had a back-up copy. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*. Aparently samba is working corectly: All user/machine accounts are in place winbind OK... It's just that although I've restored the /home/printers
