Winbind & Samba 2.2.7a on FreeBSD
Hello all, I've got a weird problem with a fresh install of Samba from the FreeBSD ports collection (btw. the BSD-box is also a fresh 4.7 Stable install). Configured Samba 2.2.7a - without cups - with winbind - with winbind-auth - with audit so far, the installation seemed to work fine... Then I copied the libnss_winbind.so to /usr/lib and softlinked it to /usr/local/lib as well as to the

Re: samba 3.0.23a Cannot join network
I had the same problem after upgrading to 3.0.23a. I have one samba PDC running a basic setup back to the smbpasswd file, and one that runs OpenLDAP. The former did exactly as yours, and I ended up rolling back to version 3.0.23. On the latter, the smb process refused to run, reporting that it could not contact the database. I ended up having to remove all the database files and reinstall

build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt! affecting samba group mapping?
Hi, when using pdbedit -L <user> we get an error > build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt! username <user> with uid <uid> is not in unix passwd database! > Username not found! This is because a user is not - as it says - in e.g. /etc/passwd. Does this affect the functionality of group mappings in the way that this doesn't work with the mapped unixgroup

build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt
Hi, I wanted to migrate my sambapasswd file to a ldap test system and noticed, that I do get errors: build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt ... username with uid ... is not in unix passwd database! Importing/changing LDAP accounts fail after the last useraccount entry in my sambapasswd file. Is there a way to remove all accounts which are in the sambapasswdfile but not in my

SAMBA with DOMAIN and SHARE security
Hi everyone. Is it possible to have a Samba configured with security=DOMAIN, but still validate some local SMB users as in security=SHARE? I tryed on my box: the authentication by domain is working fine, but when i try from another machine (not in domain) with a local unix user , the auth fails and log reports: [2003/05/13 18:48:55, 0] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1621)

Interdomain trusts
I am running samba 3.0.4 using ldap and I am having a wierd problem. I am trying to setup a one way trust with an NT4 PDC. The NT4 PDC is the trusted domain and the samba pdc is the trusting. I setup the password on the nt4 machine in the trusting field. When I go to the samba pdc and type in "net rpc trustdom establish NT4PDC" it prompts for the password. After I type it in it

Samba 3 Beta3 using LDAP and NT4 Migrate
Hi, I am trying a test of migrating a NT4 Domain to Samba 3 Beta 3 configured to use LDAP on Redhat 8. Is this possible? Details ------- I previously had Beta 2 on LDAP running as it's own domain controller without problem and could create users (in LDAP) with smbpasswd -a. XP clients could join and login OK. Now I have flushed that setup and have loaded Beta 3 configured to use LDAP,

SOLVED: Must a Samba PDC use LDAP for nss?
Hi All, It seems like Samba 3 does require the PDC to use LDAP for nss when using ldapsam. I reconfigured Solaris 9 to use nss_ldap and 'getent group' now shows the posixGroups created by the 'net rpc vampire' operation. I then cleaned up the LDAP database and ran vampire again. Each group is created successfully with incrementing gidNumber 10000 onward. 'net groupmap

ACLs revisited
Hi all, My appologies if this has been addressed before, but I've been searching the list archives and can only find people reporting having the problem, not a solution. I have found a solution for my own situation and I thought I'd share it in case it can help anyone else. BACKGROUND ========== I'm running Samba 3 on Fedora Core 2. smbpasswd database is corrupt!
I added myself into OpenLDAP and deleted my user account from /etc/passwd. Now samba complains in the log file: Jan 25 10:17:56 roark smbd[2767]: build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt! username awilliam with uid 511 is not in unix passwd database! however, I'm resolving my awilliam with nss_ldap, so I can ssh and su -l awilliam fine. so shouldn't samba be able to get

Hello, I would like to migrate my user-accounts from a Samba 2 to a Samba 3 setup. Old Setup: Samba 2 with PAM support. PAM uses LDAP to store PosixAccounts New Setup: Samba 3 with "native" LDAP. PosixAccounts are already migrated to my new LDAP server. I tried pdbedit with my old smbpasswd file: ---snip--- # pdbedit -i smbpasswd:./smbpasswd build_sam_account: smbpasswd database

restrict shares listings in domain to authenticated users
I'm setting up a samba primary domain controller in Debian woody and the users are logging into the domain fine and can access their shares. I would like to restrict the listings of available shares to only authenticated users of the samba domain. I know this works in a win NT4 domain, how does one do it with samba? This is the listing I get from an nt4 pdc (belongs to a different domain than
