RE: pam_mount ( was RE: Help with Winbind )
After a little experimentation, I've come up with this: create a directory as a temp mount point (chmod 777) called /home.domainuser or something similar and assign the template homedir variable to it. This works for the first login, but I'm looking for advice on how I can rm -rf the whole thing to clean it up for the next user. Additionally, I noticed that it doesn't actually mount

RE: pam_mount ( was RE: Help with Winbind )
Well, I've started to look at pam_mount and it seems it doesn't compile under RH8.0 because it's missing pam_modules.h. I've located that in the source for pam. It's found in pam-0.75-46.8.0.src.rpm. The error I get is during the configure part: checking for security/pam_modules.h... no configure: error: You are missing security/pam_modules.h I'm not so good with

It makes it work! RH9 compile problems AND WinXP netlogon script
Because of the original issue below, it dawned on me to re-compile Samba after the RH9 upgrade from RH7.1. The make fails, and I was hoping someone could shed some light on either/both issues. I'm compiling Samba 2.2.8a with: ./configure --with-smbwrapper --with-pam --with-syslog --with-netatalk --prefix=/var/samba --with-quotas --with-smbmount --with-shadow No errors there, but make fails

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Ah HA!.
OK we do all the steps in my previous missive and everything looks fine, landscape, collating the whole works. This is on a Laserjet 4000 with the latest PCL6 driver. The firm still has a good number of Laserjet 4s so we dutifully load up the latest PCL5E driver for the 4 and connect to the 4 on a couple of workstations. Everything goes to hell. Help with Winbind
I've been trying for weeks to get winbind working with RedHat Linux 8.0. I've got everything setup per the winbind docs on http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND. I've successfully joined my NT4 domain with smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U Administrator. Running wbinfo -u returns my domain user list, as well as wbinfo -g returning my domain groups. getent

Macintosh OS 9.2 and SMB Networks
Some use Dave (http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html) or DoubleTalk (http://www.connectix.com/products/dt.html). However, we use Netatalk (http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/) successfully to share the Unix/Samba file system with our Mac clients. Is there any reason you can't use Netatalk? Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar. With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try Jerry's patch. In another message Jerry talks about "running"

PDC/BDC Questions (fwd)
Cool, thanks alot, I really appreciate your time. I'm extremely pleased with 3.0.x's stability, I don't think local segment failover is really going to be a huge issue. Status on fixes for MS04-11/MS04-12/KB828741 issues
I realise that a large number of sites have been bitten by the bad interaction between this hotfix, and Samba. I have finally managed to spend some time looking into this, and have reproduced it in my test environment. There appears to be an issue with the NTLMSSP layer used by windows clients to wrap password change requests. Fortunately, I have also shown that it is possible to construct a

Specifying a fixed uid for RedHat RPM PrivSep user
I'm a little unconfortable with the way the privsep user is created in the RedHat spec files. In particular the way a fixed UID is specified. Now it looks (from a glance at the apache/bind spec file) that it is 'the way it is done' - but is there a register of these numbers somewhere? Vedr.: Re: Migration from WindowsNT to Samba
I was thinking of using rsync, since it has the ability of mapping the written user-name instead of using UID's. Anyone know how this work on WindowsNT? I've read, that CygWin hasn't the ACL's properly implemented yet? Does another "cross-platform" exist, that can map between the written usernames? Jacob ps. I've tried using scopy, but it fails : "Acces

disabling swat during compile
Howdy folks, I am compiling 2.2.8 from source on a Caldera Openlinux 2.3 box to replace the 2.0.x version that is there. I do NOT want to use swat at all. How do I stop it from being compiled/installed? The only swat related configure switch I could find is where to put the swat stuff, but nothing to disable it period. TIA -- Harondel J. AW: W2K RAS Server in Samba 3.0.0 Domain
I patched samba to always return ACCESS_GRANTED for testing. So I came to this: IASSAM.LOG [556] 23:23:53:671: Inserting attribute msNPAllowDialin. [556] 23:23:53:671: Successfully retrieved per-user attributes. Dialin now "only" fails with "Dialin not allowed for user", but I'm not able to set it in UserMgr. Is it difficult to map this attribute? Daniel

Fw: Forcing password changes using SAMBA as PDC
Hi, I did as suggested, and still have the same problem. I am still able to login to samba with another users password that does not require password changes. This seems to me that the problem is related to PAM password changing. I have tried change the various PAM options in the smb.conf file, but cannot get it to work. Depending on the options, it either asks for a password or not. When it asks

R: 3rd POSTING: winbind mixcase DOMAIN+username???
Hallo Andrew, thanks for the answer (for the hints in particular, I'm new on samba mailing list), I'm working on a fax server based on the original implamentation of Pedro Fraile you can read all the particular here: http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue79/fraile.html The goal of "my" fax server implementation: Users authentication via samba/winbind/pam Automatic creation of the
