We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success:
- log on to "master" workstation as administrator
- create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy" folder on your

Windows PCs on my network.
This is what I have and what is available to me:
- Samba 3.0.x (current Debian/Sarge version)
- LDAP backend for Samba
- Windows XP SP2 clients
- Domain users are typically unprivileged users

Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ?
Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ?
In samba documentation in :
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/PolicyMgmt.html
There is references to apply policies in NT/2000 Server and winxp
clients, but it's not clear to me that will run fine or not using
samba 3.2.3+winxp machines.

run a script with "administrator" credentials?
I saw Active Directory a bit today and was impressed with the ease one
can manage many Windows workstations with that.
Especially I liked the software installation (too bad it can install MSI
packages only) and the ability to run custom scripts on the workstations
(when the boot up etc.).
Is it possible to run a custom script for a given machine when it boots
up (that is already joined to

Should I upgrade Samba 3.6 to Samba 4.1
Hi,
I just installed Samba on my Centos 6.4 computer. Smbstatus says my
version is 3.6.9-151.el6-4.1.
My smb.conf file only has a [global] and [homes] section.
My configuration works, as expected, from a Win7 Virtual Box computer
and a Win8 Virtual Box computer. I can see the share from the Windows
file explorer and can map the share to a network drive. The Samba server
is not virtual.

Exporting local policies on several computers
Hello everyone,
Not really a Samba problem, but I hope someone can help me :
I am doing some tests for integrating XP clients on Samba 3.02 with LDAP

I have tried this on a test machine on which I have applied local
policies withthe gpedit.msc console (ie : Delete the roaming profiles or
hide the logon scripts...) and this work perfectly.
Now I'd like to do the same on other

I configured the account lockout policies by RSAT, GPEDIT.MSC.
By GPEDIT.MSC I set the value = 10 attempts.
Through the samba-tool, I used this command:

Roaming Profile not found - replacement PDC
Howdy everyone:
Here's an interesting one:
I have joined a machine to the domain, and I log on. Then, I get a
message to the effect that the user's roaming profile couldn't be
[loaded or found?], and a local profile will be used instead (and
actually this also fails, but is not the point of my question... I don't
think).

I want to input user name and password every time I access the share, so I
want to disable password caching in windows client. I google to find there
is a way to modify the windows registry. But it does not work on windows

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all,
I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy
thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a
school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that.
so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files)
I'm thinking of having the students run off of a

xp logon issue
Hi,
I have setup Samba 3.0 as PDC and all the desktops are able to login
and no issues. One laptop user is not
able to logon out side the office (PDC is not available). Win 2003,
he doesn't have such problem. How to enable cache so that
user can logon even if domain is not available?
I tried google, but my framing may not be right, so I didn't get any
help. Thanks in Advance.
