samba pdc/roving profiles/encrypted passwords
It is my understanding that roving profiles cannot be implemented without using encrypted passwords. It is also my understanding that encrypted passwords cannot be implemented without pointing smb.conf to a windows password server. I'm trying to set up a samba server on a Linux (RedHat 7.3) to act as a PDC and a provider for roving profiles - when I do things with cleartext (encryption

Roving Profile Issues
Hi Again, I figured out what my problem was with the encrypted passwords - it's sufficient to say that it was an error on my part, not the software. Oops. However, now I'm completely baffled. I can login to the domain perfectly (encryption is on, by the way), my home drive maps correctly, the login script runs as it is supposed to, but I'm getting an error about my remote

Doubts about Winbindd
Hi, I'm trying to set up a PDC using Samba on a Linux server. I need to the linux clients, using KDE desktop, log in the PDC using the KDE login box. I think I could use the 'winbindd' to do what I need but, I still have some questions: 1. Do I need to set up winbindd on each Linux client to log on the Linux PDC ? 2. Do I need to set up winbindd on the Linux PDC

Samba 3.0 and Active Directory Replication
I have been following the development ot Samba 3.0 with great interest. There is something that still confuses me. Can Samba 3.0 join a Windows 2000 network as a domain controller and replicate Active Directory information with existing Windows 2000 domain controllers? If Samba 3.0 is the only domain controller on a network with Windows 2000/XP clients, will the clients see it as a domain

Microsoft and roving profile Outlook woes. Fixed.
Hi, One for the archives: Problem: Microsoft Outlook Express client takes a woefully gruesomely long time to start when using roving profiles on a Samba share. Fix: Turn off oplocks on the share. Eg: [netlogon] writeable = yes browseable = yes oplocks = no ... ... Eddie. -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

Roving profiles on Samba 2.0.6
I was using Samba 2.0.4 and I've upgraded to 2.0.6. I'm running on FreeBSD 3.3. Since I've upgraded, roaming profiles seem to be the default, and it's causing me some grief. I'm not ready to introduce them, and what happens is that when a user logs onto a machine with office 97, the office 97 policies get stored in their home directories. That's okay until they log onto

Samba 3 Beta and Encryption Issues
Hi All, This is an update/question about the new beta release of Samba. I installed it onto a test bay. One machine is Redhat 7.3, one is XP. For our purposes, the clients need to have encryption turned off (IE: we enabled cleartext passwords). With Samba 2.2.7, I had PDC support, including roving profiles and login scripts working when ecryption was turned on, both server-side and

load password users in Ldap
Hello, I'm new in Samba Ldap. I use samba-2.2.3a and openldap2-2.1.4-46. I am going to load in Ldap a lot of users in a ldif file as it is shown below. But I don't know how to put samba password. I can use: smbpasswd juan1 and then the fields lmPassword and ntPassword are changed. In this way, after load all users in Ldap I would need a script to do a smbpasswd for each user

Authentication
I am a relative new user of samba (well not to new), but I would like to authenticate samba through ldap, and ldap only. I don;t want to have to manage the /etc/passwd file aswell. Can this be accomplished all on 1 machine (for example running samba and openldap on the same machine), with the openldap db being the only user/group db I need to maintain. If so, can anyone point me towards some

Samba 2.2 -> 3.0.0 upgrade: questions + Internet Connection Wizard / Identities
Hello, I just upgraded from Samba 2.2.7 to Samba 3.0.0 on RedHat 9. I did this by uninstalling the 2.2.7 samba RPM's and then applying the Samba 3.0.0 RPM from samba.org, then putting my local changes back into smb.conf. I have also migrated my smb users from smbpasswd to tdbsam with the pdbedit utility as discussed in the HOWTO. It seems I have to rejoin my client boxes (windows 2000 pro)

Set a login script but no profile?
Hello, I am so close!!! So far I have a Samba PDC that machines and users can log into, but here's the deal: I would like to find out how to allow them to log on and receive their login script, but not use a roving profile. Here are my relevant settings as they are set right now: ; logon drive = x: ; logon home = "\\Gluon\Gluon G" ; logon path = \\Jupiter\Profile\%U encrypt

pks for openssh
I was directed to the following site by one of our customers regarding a keyserver built into openssh. There's a patch for 3.4p1 on their site, but the license isn't very clear, nor is it clear if they have approached the openssh team regarding the inclusion of this subsystem into openssh proper. I've been asked to patch Mandrake's openssh with this feature, but I'm

feature: RequiredAuthentications
Hi, probably an ignorant question, maybe I'm missing something ... Is there a way for a sshd server to be able to enforce both client host key authentication as well as user authentication, say for roving user-administered laptops. So a sysadmin can restrict access to allow only client hosts which can pass the HostbasedAuthentication tests, whatever the current IP name/address, but still
