Samba BDC and mirroring Homes
We have samba 2.0.0 running on Solaris 2.6 (Sparc)
sharing out various directories and user homes.
Recently I've set it up for Win98 logins and all
this is working fine. Unfortunately this also
means that if the server has to go down so do the
clients, as we're pushing the users to use the
server as much as possible.
My question is what would be the best way to set
up a Backup Samba

rsync via ssh
Hi,
We have 2 problems with rsync over ssh that we
haven't been able to replicate all the time.
Basically, we have a developement server running
Solaris 2.5.1 and another running Solaris 2.6, the
development tree is shared via nfs. When minor
changes are made they are distibuted to various
mirror sites via a perl script which does some
checks (path, etc) and runs 'rsync -e ssh ....'

BUG: 2.2.6 and dos recusive filecopy
Hi!
I've been using samba for some time now with about 20 users and with
remote installation of Windows XP from dos (TFTPboot image with dos
network drivers - ms client 1.6c).
On all releases (up to, and including 2.2.5) a recursive xcopy (from
dos) copied all files normally.
When I upgraded to samba 2.2.6, the recursive xcopy (win98 version of
xcopy.exe, copying from a mapped drive)

2.2.8a-1, Raidzone, filesize > ~17.6GB
I am working with a Raidzone tech to solve a problem with our Raidzone
NAS. The tech told me he has not yet posted to any Samba list about this,
and gave me permission to do so.
Using XCOPY from either NT4SP6a or W2KSP3, over varying network paths, a
file of 18,490,235K-1 bytes or smaller will copy to the NAS successfully in
about 45 minutes, but a file of 18,490,256K-1 bytes or larger will

Problem with xcopy /d & samba
A problem has arisen with the way samba handles file
creation dates compared to NT/win2k, which prevents
xcopy /d from working correctly.
On NT/Win2k, files copied from another NT machine using
xcopy end up with the modified dates equal to the original
modified date of the file, and the created and accessed
dates become the date of the xcopy operation.
On Samba, files copied from an NT

Large-scale ACL copying?
Hi all,
Well, I'm getting somewhere I think, I now have both ACL support and
domain login basically working. However I'm at a bit of a loss as to how
to proceed.
Basically I want to copy over a large number of files and directories
(~300k files, ~60Gb total) from an existing W2k server to a Samba
server. These files have existing ACLs set, so I need to preserve them
somehow.
I can

Access Denied - XCopy from Win2K SP3 to Samba 3.0.8
Right in the middle of a big XCopy from Win2K SP3 to Samba 3.0.8 I get an "Access Denied" kicked back from XCopy and it ends. XCopy is building dirs from scratch on the Samba server - starting for a
clean empty share. XFS FS on the server, Debian Sarge.
I've heard of odd things with RoboCopy, but what about XCopy doing this? I suppose I will be cranking up the logs... or is there

xcopy failures
Hi
I had sent a mail about a week ago regarding a xcopy problem I had. I am
trying to copy an image of an nt workstation from an unixware 2.1.3 server
running samba 1.9.18p8. Initially the client is a dos client, who connects
to the unixware server and downloads files using xcopy. My problem after
copying a certain number of files xcopy fails with path not found. On
further investigation I

samba 3.0.22 and OS/2 connectivity
Hi All
I have a Linksys NSLU2 device which is used to hook USB2 drives upto my
network as network attached storage.
The Linksys firmware upgrade for this device includes samba 3.0.11 which
is a non-starter regarding OS/2 connectivity.
There is an alternative firmware based on the Linksys firmware called
Unslung from http://www.nslu2-linux.org/
The Unslung firmware allows

successfully keeping me from sleeping the last week. Basically, I am
running a DebianGNU/Linux based machine with samba 3.0.0 as a backup
server for an amount of Windows NT4 workstations. There is an old backup
"framework" around here, basically a collection of .bat files on the
workstations which at

At this point in my lab, the only solid servers I have are Win2000.
So I xcopy the distro CDs into a directory that I make available for
install via ftp.
Well I have had problems copying files from this distro.
I had to use the /c option in xcopy to get past the problem files..
A few examples are:

[Samba 4.0.9 | Win 7 x64 | Office 2007 x86 | Folder Redirection | Local Cache] : Word-documents, Corrupt
Hello,
First of all I would like to thank the Samba Project Group for this state
of the art software. I would like to thank every body for helping each
other out.
Please ignore my poor English writing. It is not my native language.
Although: I do the best I can.
We use Samba for a while now. We started with version 4.0.6 and updated
each time. Now we are at version 4.0.9 and we are planning to

Windows link in linux share...
Well, I just did a dirty test:
* mklink link.txt "textfile.txt"
* mklink /D DIrLink "Directory"
* copied it to a samba share via Explorer (drag and drop).
* copied it to a Windows share via Explorer (drag and drop).
In both cases, it copied the contents of "textfile.txt" as "link.txt",
definitely not a symlink (windows or otherwise). Same with

Delayed Write Failed!
Hi all.
I'm running Samba 2.2.3a with WinXP client and I keep getting messages
that say "Delayed Write Failed" when saving to Samba shares. I don't
have any hardware problems or similar problems with Linux programs.
Here's my smb.conf:
