displayName: Gerald Carter
lmPassword: 552902031BEDE9EFAAD3B435B51404EE

smbldap-tools and joining workstation to domain
Hi,
I've reported this before but I guess I'll have to do it again, since
it's not fixed yet or I'm understanding something wrong here.
The problem is that smbldap-useradd -w 'machinename' will add only
posixAccount entrys into ldap but it should add both posixAccount and
sambaSAMAccount entrys.
So if one doesn't add correct machine account entrys manually to ldap

PAM Module for SMB-LDAP
Hi Everybody,
maybe we are just too stupid, but for me it seems that
there is some problem with holding passwords completely
sync between *NIX-world and WIN-world when I use LDAP
& Samba.
If a user changes a password under Windows, with "passwd chat"
the *NIX-Password (attribute: userPassword) can be changend
very well besides the both Samba-LDAP-attributes lmPassword

'Computer Account' -s /bin/false %u)
which seems to me to be ok, but the workstation tells me that it

Novell EDirectory as LDAP backend
Hi,
is anybody out there who is using Novell Edir. with samba?
I have searched the archive and found some random notes but no real
success story.
Here is what I have achived so far. Maybe someone can give me some hints.
I have tried the samba-nds.schema that comes with the 2.2.7a tar ball.
While I was able to import/add it to EDir. it did not work for me,
because the "lmPassword"

Samba + LDAP + Password Expiry = Almost working...
I've got a Samba 2.2.7a domain with an LDAP backend. It's been working for
nearly 3 months now without much bother.
By the way: Great work and thanks for all of the effort!
I have been missing one minor thing from the setup since I moved away from
NT 4: Password Expiration. In the past I have posted questions about this
on the list and I've gotten two answers: "Wait for

eDirectory 8.7 and sambaAccount
I'm having a problem adding a password to users. I get "NDS error: no
additional information available (-306) when I use smbpasswd.
Also I can see in ndstrace that the search string is

I have "ldap fileter = (&(cn=%u)(objectClass=sambaAccount)) in my smb.conf.

samba+ldap passwd sync
Hi !
I'm in trouble...
I'm in the way of building a FreeBSD Samba server with LDAP support.
So far, everything works great except password synchronization.
It is the only thing I need left to do before my server goes into
production, so I'm really looking for help.
What I need is to be able to synchronize the Windows passwords with the
Unix passwords. All passwords are stored in

Autentication without /etc/passwd users
Hi,
It seems that the user account must also be in the /etc/passwd when I
autentication in Ldap/samba.
I have in my Ldap database the Posixaccount.
My samba log file:
[2004/03/18 07:22:56, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:init_sam_from_ldap(674)
init_sam_from_ldap: User [marcone] does not ave a uid!
If I have this user in /etc/passwd the autentication is Ok, but I will

Adding computers to SAMBA/LDAP
We are running samba 2.2.8a as a PDC with openLDAP
Using the tools that come from IDEALX we have created several machine
accounts Then we have attempted to join the windows domain and login
with varying results.
One machine acts as expected and we can log in and out freely
A second machine let's one user log in but if that user changes his
password, he like all the other users is told

migrate old samba2.2.8 - smbpasswd to new samba3.0 - ldap - based
I'm just migrating a medium sambainstallation from old samba2.2.8 to new samba
3.0. The server is acting as PDC and there is no BDC.
The new samba is based on LDAP and is already successfully tested. Now I need to
transfer the whole old smbpasswd to the new ldap-style to convert users and
machines with minimal effort. Especially I dont want to break the relations
between the machines and

smpasswd and ldap ...
Another question ...
When using the LDAP SAM, should smpasswd change the POSIX
password?
The reason I ask, is because when I do a change or add with
smbpasswd, I see that the POSIX password does not change,
but I throught that it should ... is there something wrong
with my installation ... another reason I ask, is because I
