Warning message at password prompt
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've patched my local OpenSSH (currently 2.9p2, but the same patch applies to 3.0.2) to allow the cipher 'none' for both SSH1 and SSH2 connections. With SSH1, there is already code to print a warning that any password you enter will be sent in plain text. However the userauth_passwd() in sshconnect2.c does not have any such warning. I

partition not found when remounting in RW mode
Hi, I installed RH 7.2 with the original kernel and decided to use ext3 as the fs. All partitions are now ext3. This is working fine as long as I'm using the original kernels. Now I wanted to compile my own kernel (2.4.13), but there seems to be a problem. When it it tries to remount my root partition / in RW, I get an error message that the partition cannot be found. When I reboot using the

journal aborting and remounting /boot as ro
Hi, Apologies in advance for any breaches of netiquette, I couldn't find any guidelines about submission to this forum but I'd be grateful for your help on something. My /boot filesystem is being remounted shortly after start-up as read-only. I get the following messages... journal_bmap_Ra7a5f568: journal block not found at offset 12 on ide0(3,1) Aborting journal on device ide0(3,1)

shared storage: rw on one node and ro on second node
Hi list, I recently came up with the need for the storage, shared between two nodes; one would do all the r/w to it and the other would mount it r/o and serve it to the client boxen. I want to use ext3 in this setup, since i trust it the most. My question is: is this possible? How would the r/o node handle the metadata updates that the r/w node would be doing? If there is some fundamental

mount as ro for users, rw for root?
Under CentOS 5.2, is it possible to mount an iscsi filesystem/partition as rw for root, but ro for users? If so, what would be the proper syntax? Thanks. Scott

[PATCH] virtio-spec: split virtio-net device status filed into ro and rw byte
This patch splits the device status field of virtio-net into ro and rw byte. This would simplify the implementation of both host and guest and make the layout more clean. As VIRTIO_NET_S_ANNOUNCE is a rw bit, it was moved to bit 8 (0x100). btw. looks like there's no implementation that depends on VIRTIO_NET_S_ANNOUNCE, so the move is safe. Re: "guestmount --rw" fails but "guestmount --ro" succeeds on Ubuntu 14.04
Thanks for your response Rich. Please see the output of --trace --verbose below. Regarding your suggestion to convert the vmdk to some other format, I do not want to do it. A security consultant said by modifying certain files in our VM and restarting the VM, one can gain access to encrypted data in our VM. I want to reproduce it. I am able to mount the VM but not able to modify files since it can

RFE: ssh-askpass program configurable
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I note that ssh-askpass-gnome was moved into the contrib/ directory of portable OpenSSH and the configure option for it (--with-gnome-askpass) was removed. I can understand not wanting a configure option for one particular askpass program, but it would be useful to have a general replacement, as in % ./configure

The LXC container propagate the ro remount to the host mount point
Hi, every so often (cannot determine when it occurs at this time), the VM remount in read only the host partition (/srv here). Is it a bug? A misconfiguration? My config: <filesystem type='mount' accessmode='passthrough'> <source dir='/srv/lxc/lib/vprobe10/rootfs'/> <target dir='/'/> </filesystem> -- Sebastien Douche

Cipher 'none'
By making a one-line change it is possible to enable the cipher 'none' in openssh. But you still have to ask for it explicitly, either by adding it to /etc/ssh/ssh_config or by giving the '-c none' option to ssh. I think that this 'feature' should be turned back on, because for slow machines or large file transfers, using encryption slows things down a lot. This means

logging beg - again
Hello, [Old problem; if it was fixed, I cannot see it (checked Changelog, wiki, source, as much as my grepping counts). Any help appreciated.] I have been begging since 2003 to be able to trash qpopper and use dovecot, but statistical logging of dovecot has been pretty much absent. Qpopper does this: Aug 19 11:18:02 mail in.qpopper[8099]: Stats: userid 0 0 12 51773 user.example.com

Time to beg on my knees for help!!!

This way I can eliminate LD on my home line, and pay minimal LD charges through

Cosmetical printk change, remounting problems.
Hi! I noticed yet another dying IBM drive in one of my servers, producing IDE + "standard" ext3 error messages (happened during the start of a new journal methinks): ext3_reserve_inode_write: aborting transaction: Journal has aborted in __ext3_journal_get_write_access<2>EXT3-fs error (device ide5(57,1)) in ext3_reserve_inode_write: Journal has aborted which clearly shows that

Remounting ZFS formatted disk after system reinstall
I was running solaris 10 6/06 with latest kernel patch on ultra 20 (x86) with two internal disks, the root with the OS (c1d0) as UFS and the userland data on c2d0s7 formatted as ZFS. An update made the system unusable and required reinstallation of the OS on c1d0 (solaris 6/06). I cannot figure out how to remount the second drive c2d0s7 which is formatted as ZFS. I have not created any ZFS

Remounting a USB flash drive
I've noticed that once I right click on my flash drive icon and umount it, in order to remount it I have to unplug it and then plug it back in. Is there a command that will accomplish the same task without the unplug and plug back in physics? Thanks. mhr

Multiple mounts instead of remounting?
I'm having issues trying to remount any shares using samba. Super Short version mount -o remount /some_windows_share creates a duplicate mount instead of properly remounting. Full details... I have many shares served off of NT4 boxes, mounted via samba on a linux box (RHEL 4). Since long dormant (>12 hour) shares from one server in particular always have problems for a few seconds when
