netbios aliases and shares
I have Samba 2.2.8a on Linux set as a PDC. Its netbios name is \\DC, and has an alias \\CSWIN and then I include %L.smb.conf. In dc.smb.conf, I set "security=share" and all the stuff needed for it to act like a PDC. It works without any problems.. Here is my cswin.cmb.conf ------------------------- [global] server string = Windows Distribution Share default service

Comboot menu crashes when it goes off screen
It works! Now, is there a way to use this handler multiple times so different submenus can have different position values. -Aaron On Fri, 2 Apr 2004, ganapathy murali krishnan wrote: > You write your own menupos_handler (like in complex.c) and register the > handler. > > So all you need to do is to copy the code for the menupos_handler from > complex.c and modify it to suit

Memdisk/floppy image question
Here is the script I put together now. I hope I haven't overlooked anything. You might need to modify the first section of variables to suit your setup. Ofcourse you need to run this as root. May be some version of this should be included with syslinux? Basically given an existing floppy image, it creates a larger image and copies its contents over and sets up the bootsector of the

COM32 Advice
Windows uses several sectors in the _partition_ for booting. Windows only uses sector 0 of the Disk (the MBR), and does not use any other sectors. Other boot managers and copy protection software (the stuff that comes with TurboTax this year uses track 0, evil...) For FAT16 filesystems, only the first sector is used. For FAT32, there are 32 sectors that are reserved by the FS, and I've come

Comboot Menu System
On the SysLinux page, there is a screenshot of "COMBOOT Menu System for SYSLINUX developed by Murali Krishnan Ganapathy" (Advanced Menu System). I was wondering where I might be able to download this menu system in full to work with? If you dont want to share, I understand, but I am really intrigued by this and want to learn more, and maybe make my own design if I can figure it out.

SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2 is out
I have released SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2. I *really* would like testing reports for this one, especially ISOLINUX, since I've included Knut Petersen's fix for Award BIOSes... Changes in 2.10: * MEMDISK: Handle images compressed with zip as well as with gzip. Some Windows-based image tools apparently generate these kinds of images by default. Patch by Patrick

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi, I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.

Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello, I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley" "arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc, etc, etc, on a single line. Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long) description of what I did. I

More features in Syslinux 2.08
As far as I know the only thing close to that, is to boot DOS from a floppy image (stored on the CD). The floppy image will contain the CD drivers and hence you can use DOS to access the contents of the CD. The floppy image is usually stored in the "boot sector" of the CD, or if you are using utilities like ISOLINUX, then they can be stored on the CD, and ISOLINUX/memdisk can boot

MACHINE.SID - what if I delete it
Hello, I'm doing all sorts of testing with samba 2.0.6 and NT wks domain logons. It is just a test environment, and since deleting and recreating the /etc/MACHINE.SID file nothing is working. If a person deletes that file, what has to be done to get NT wks domain logons to work again? Delete and recreate the machine names in passwd and smbpasswd? Delete and recreate the NT usernames in

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Murali (????? ?????) )
Sorry for the delay, I should not send email on an holiday week-end. I'll try to answer all the questions by explaining what does work for me right now, and what I'd like to do. I have a script to create the a USB stick or an ISO image. The boot media contains many DOS images, and I use versamenu to select one of them. If my DOS image is smaller than 8megs, everything is working fine as

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Solved)
Hi, I did found the problem, a combination of 2 factor. 1- I taught that I did install the latest syslinux, but in fact it was the 3.36 version. 2- Thank to kevin Connelly, he point me to a problem he got with mkdosfs command. The default FAT16 do not work, but the FAT12 do. By adding -F12 to the mkdosfs command fix the problem. The default F16 do seem to work for <8M floppy image. Thank you

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Hi Jeremy, Hi Steve, Hi Ronnie, thanks for your replies and the profound discussion. I think, it's best to demonstrate my problem case along an real world example: The following log of a console sesssion shows how I am doing the mounts on behalf Linux Kernel CIFS-FS Module on the client side against a Samba 4.5 file server (both running on Debian Stretch 9.8) via SMB/CIFS resp. SMB2 protocol:

Samba and .NET FileSystemWatcher
Hi All, I've been looking into a problem using the .NET FileSystemWatcher class in a VB application. The application is only receiving notifications for events in the root of the directory it is watching. E.g. When monitoring \\SambaServer\Files <file:///\\SambaServer\Files> \\SambaServer\Files\file.txt <file:///\\SambaServer\Files\file.txt> will give notifications but not
