Don't be afraid to answer this question!!!
Hi List, I really need your help.... I have been working with Samba 2.2.8 configuring it as a PDC with two members, one with windows XP and the other with RedHat 7.3. So, I have three machines, one with RedHat 7.3 as a PDC, another with RedHat 7.3 as a PDC member and another with Windows XP as a PDC member too. Well, so far I have joined my XP machine and my RedHat machine into the PDC machine

Samba - User Authentication
Hi Robert and List, As you told me I upgrated to Samba 2.2.5 because I'm doing the test with a machine which has RedHat 8.0 and this RedHat version comes with it.... Anyway..... So I made the procedure step by step but I haven't found how to make my Windows 2000 users (PDC) can access the Linux shared folder and this is what I've done: My smb.conf looks like this: [global]

ham,Re: samba PDC upgrade from 3.2.5 to 3.4.7
Hi John. It worked well just before the upgrade. I'm not saying that this is correct, but is the reason why users aren't accessing? Also, should'n this give some specific error in the logs? Tks in advance. John H Terpstra wrote: > On 03/23/2010 02:35 PM, Leonardo Carneiro - Veltrac wrote: > >> Hi Dale and others. I had already checked the release notes. Only users

Samba authentication
Hi, Could someone confirm that the following is NOT possible with Samba: -Run Samba on a Solaris box WITH NO SMBPASSWD -Have the users log in on Windows NT, using the Novell NDS client, and using ENCRYPTION -Have the users authenticated by Samba through NDS (preferred) or NIS. My understanding is that if Samba receives the password encrypted, it has no choice but to use a local smbpasswd (and

Migrating from NT4 PDC to Windows 2003 ADS; Samba as member server
Here's the situation. We've got an old NT4 domain (not a Samba domain in NT 4 mode) which we'll call CRUSTY. There is of course an NT4 PDC and several NT4 BDCs. We have some Linux/Samba file servers (Samba 3.0.1) that are member servers (security = domain) of the NT4 domain. We also have several NT4 BDCs and about 200 workstations of varying vintage (2000, XP) in several

Adding Windows servers to a Samba PDC network
Hi everyone. Just wanted to ask a question here. We are running RH 7.3 as our samba PDC. Everything is working great and im really enjoying the setup. However, we need to add two Windows 2000 Adv. Servers to our Domain because of software that we run on this. I probably already know the answer, but I figured I would ask this anyway. The default account on the Windows servers is

Slow transfer file between Windows and Samba PDC (2.2.3a)
Hello everyone I have a quite weird problem, and I've try a lot of possibility without any success. It's about file transfert beetween a Windows 2000/98/ME and a Samba PDC. I've made some tests with a Win 2K PDC too. Oh yes, English isn't my native language, so please excuse me in advance for my *bad* english. PDC (CentOS 5.5, Samba 3.5.6): no domain group names sent to Windows 2003 members
Hello, After setting up Samba 3.5.6 on CentOS 5.5 (built from sources) I have noticed a strange problem. Windows 2003 servers participating in this Samba domain do not receive domain groups list when I, say, try to assign security credentials for a file/folder. When I choose domain as source, search reveals only technical group names and individual domain users names. No domain group names

IDMAP: migrating from a single PDC to a PDC and some Member Servers
Hi, I am migrating a Samba 3.0.28 ( Slackware 12.0 ) that is a single PDC, to a PDC with domain members and/or BDC. This single PDC is plugged in a central switch and I have a lot of computer's rooms, in different ethernet segments, all them using switches and routers to reach this PDC. ( Something like this: PDC -> central switch -> router -> switch -> workstations )

Samba PDC _and_ Samba member?
I am trying to get a Samba PDC and a Samba member server to work together. I can't. The documentation describes how to make a Samba PDC work. I got that working. My Win2k desktop can join just fine. The documentation describes how to make a Samba server be a member of an NT domain. It does not tell how to make Samba trust Samba. That's my problem. I have the PDC setup to

Demote old NT4 PDC to member of Samba domain?
Hi, When installing Samba, I made it a PDC in a new domain. Now I would like the old NT4 PDC in the old domain to become a plain host in my Samba domain. Is this possible? I need to keep the old NT4 machine because it's running the Symantec Corporate Edition NAV. In other words, I have NEWDOMAIN with Samba PDC and all clients OLDDOMAIN with NT4 PDC alone, no client Can my NT4 PDC become

samba 2.2.8 PDC + LDAP * on different servers?
All: I'm running Samba 2.2.8 as a PDC, using Netscape Directory Server (don't ask :) for an LDAP backend. Is there any technical reason why Samba and LDAP services have to reside on the same server? My predecessors had a lot of trouble getting the two to play nicely when the services were split between two servers, to the point that "don't split samba and LDAP" is now the

Samba 3 PDC and ADS member server
I've been reading some documentation and can't find an answer to my question... I work in an environment where we have a bunch of Solaris 2.8 servers and a bunch of developers using Windows 2000 and XP desktops. We support a client using a Windows 2000 Server ADS PDC, and they need to map some of the NFS drives on our Solaris 2.8 servers. Currently we run a PCNetLink PDC (don't worry

Samba PDC - Samba Member Server
The configuration I'm trying to use is a SAMBA PDC with a SAMBA Member Server, using tdbsam. Binaries for SuSE 9.3 from the samba web page, version 3.0.14a-4.1.i586.rpm. This is SuSE 9.3 Pro with patches and kernel up-to-date thru 20050708. I need to use Samba 3.0.14a because in production the Samba PDC will have to work with several Samba member servers and 3 Windows 2003 member servers.
