Samba 2.2.x and Trust Relationships?
Hi, Is it true that Samba 2.2.x PDC does not support trust relationships to other Windoze NT PDCs? Thanks in advance for your reply. Samba3 Trust Relationships?
Hey all, After setting up a migration server (a server which will act as a test for a Samba 3.x environment), so we can make sure our migration from Samba 2.2.x to 3.x goes as smoothly as possible, I've hit upon a problem, now I am not sure whether this is the fault of Samba (my configuration) or NT4 or whether this is infact designed behaviour for both/either servers. I'd like to

auth to two diff PDCs? (success, sort of)
With a single server, settings "security = server" and "password server = pdc1 pdc2', I can successfully authenticate against two entirely different PDCs depending on which order I put the two machines in the 'password server' list. Is there someway of forcing clients from either domain to authenticate against the 'right' pdc, regardless of the order in the

Interdomain trust with different WINS servers
Hi I am trying to stablish a relation between two different Samba domains. Each domain has two PDCs, all they are WINS servers, and the two domains are in different subnets. They are configured to use LDAP as the user/group/machine database. First, I will create the relation, being DOM1.CORP the trusted domain, and DOM2.CORP the trusting domain, so in a server of DOM1.CORP, I create a user this

network design - taking advantage of samba+openldap

Trusting and Trusted Domain Samba LDAP (mapping Home Directories) Problem
Hi, Here is my scenario:- 1. I got 1 LDAP server with two domains (A & B) configured to it. 2. Both domain PDCs are fully trusted to one another. I did the "trustdom establish" both ways. 3. I have 1 XP client that has joined Dom A. The login bar can allow you to login to 2 domains. 4. I can managed to login to both domains. 5. I got all the sambaHomePath and home drive

The Big Plunge
Hola folks, After a few years of slowly phasing in various Linux and BSD platforms, the company I work for is willing to take a hard look at replacing its existing Windows NT domain controllers with a Linux/Samba combination. We only have about sixty people in our main office, but most of my experience is with smaller deployments. I'm not looking for step-by-step instructions, that's

Basic questions regarding Samba capabilities
Hi people: I've been using Samba for a long time with some "basic" features like Samba working as a PDC, integrated with OpenLDAP, being a print server, among others, for a small number of "almost controlled" users (no more than 30 or 50 users). But now I'm interested to implement a Windows domain using Samba for a University with 6000-8000 users distributed through

SAMBA+LDAP in a Workgroup
Hi, This may be a dumb question (I'm new with this), but is it possible to use SAMBA in combination with LDAP in a Workgroup? All the manuals and examples I can find, are talking about Domains and PDCs. I have to set up a new Samba server and checkout LDAP but I'm not allowed to change the Workgroup settings... Now we use smbpasswd... Is LDAP worth the effort and time? Kind

Workstation Trust Accounts
Hi there, I have a really ugly problem, which, as I know is partially selfmade. But to the problem: I have five servers running samba-2.2.3a-12 (latest Debian Woody release) which are controlled by one master server. All of the five servers act as pdc for an own nt-domain. Now to keep the administrative work as low as possible I have this one master server. Via this server we/our customer

Browsing on remote subnets, domain logons

Can I make all subnets and all computers to see all computers on all subnets without using WINS? So A should see SS, B and C. Because between MS and SS is very long network

Domains: Pros and Cons?
I have Samba running without a PDC and I have some questions about the advantages for implementing one with Samba vs. the problems and disadvantages. Perhaps some kind souls can help me determine whether I should do this or not. We have three offices connected by a Checkpoint VPN, plus people "on the road" using their SecureClient tool. We want everyone to be able to get to all the

Can Winbind go directly to LDAP/Kerberos? Or is it PDC NTLM only?
Hi. I am tinkering with PADL and Kerberos PAM, so that I can have account authentication and directory directly to AD KDC/LDAP. I always thought that windbind provided support for NT-style PDC for authentication and referencing account-directory, and thus only work in AD mixed-mode where PDC emulator is used for backwards compatibility. However, I was reading a book that seemed to indicate that

SID resolution to Username
Hello, I have two Samba 3.0.22 PDCs and each trust each other. When I add an user of each domain to the permissions of a file on a windows machine (W2k, WXP), it shows for them DOMAIN\USERNAME. Everything is fine. But when i close the permission window and reopen it, then the user out of the trusted domain is only shown as SID. The one of the own domain is resolved fine. This happens on clients

Owner/Permissions and winbind
Hello, I have two Samba Domains and each trust each other (PDCs run 3.0.22). Also I have a samba member server (3.0.24) that runs winbind. When I use wbinfo I can see the user and groups of both domains. I also can chown/chgrp files with users of the domain the server is member of. But I can`t chown/chgrp with accounts of the trusted domain. chown doesn`t work at all. chgrp works, but then only

PDC/BDC Domain Logins Samba 2.2.7
We're about to start migrating from Windows NT 4.0 to a Samba controlled setup. I've got a question about the functionality of the Samba PDCs and BDCs. In my Windows setup I have three domains that are defined by geographic locations. Each of these domains "trusts" the other. In Samba 2.2.7, I can't have the trusts, so I'm looking at creating one giant domain that

Antivirus for Windows with Linux administration console
Hello, This is not a Samba question itself, but it's somewhat related to Samba. I am planning to replace the two Windows 2000 Server servers in a client company with two Samba PDCs with LDAP backend. Currently, those W2K servers hold the Active Directory and the the antivirus management console. And this is the only nuisance we are finding when moving from Windows Server to Samba PDC. If
