Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail.
I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new
hardware.
The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily.
We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up
the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream'
nature of files from a

Dave clients accessing Samba
Hi,
We have about 2 dozen Mac OS9 computers running Dave 2.5.3 to access smb
resources. Our print server, running Samba 2.2.7 (w/domain
authentication), has no user accounts. PCs access the printers and print
just fine, but the Macs using Dave get an authentication error of invalid
user/password. They can access resources on the win2003 PDC.
Any idea what's going on here specific to the

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,
Joe

Samba4 - PDC - RHEL6 - Slow browsing from Mac clients
Hi,
I'm in the process of rolling out a brand new server as a Samba4 PDC to a customer with about 30 users. It's going well except for the fact that I now have some serious slow browsing issues from Mac clients, and that?s when only a handful of them are connected to the server. Note that if I install software such as Dave from Thursby on the Macs, the speed issues vanish. Also, browsing

rsync, backup, Macintosh files
Hey!
I have been given the task to mirror our fileserver's filesystem onto a
secondary machine for redundancy. The first thing that came to mind was
rsync, but now I have few questions as I am far from an expert on this
matter.
Our file server is running Debian Stable. We use Samba for our Windows
users and Netatalk (AFP) for our OS X clients. The filesystem used on
the server is

Tr: ISOLINUX failure with Connectix Virtual PC 4.3.2
In fact, I discovered that the bug is caused when there is no primary hard disk image (no hard disk 0).
When an HD image is created and attached, ISOLINUX works well:

Older Mac to SAMBA copy
I've built a new samba server to replace an aging Apple 9500 running 8.6
that is acting as a 'file server'. The other macs run 9.2 and 10.2, which
are the computers that will be served (I HOPE!) by the samba server.
I have installed DAVE in order to be able to copy the files over to the new
server. However, as the files copy, they disappear on the samba
server. Someone said it

ISOLINUX failure with Connectix Virtual PC 4.3.2
Hello,
I have discovered an incompatibility between Connectix Virtual PC 4.3.2 and ISOLINUX 1.75:
when I boot a .iso CD image using Virtual PC 4.3.2 software, I get the following errors (debug version):

Apple shares?
Hi,
I have a need to do some file transfers between my AIX 4.3.3 boxes and Apple
PC's. I use SAMBA to provide shares to PC's, but I know nothing about Apple.
FTP is an option, but less desirable than setting up a share. Does anyone
have experience with using SAMBA to set up shares with Apple clients?
I know that there are, other products to accomplish what I ask, but in terms
of support

Help with Winbind
I've been trying for weeks to get winbind working with RedHat Linux 8.0.
I've got everything setup per the winbind docs on
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND.
I've successfully joined my NT4 domain with smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U
Administrator. Running wbinfo -u returns my domain user list, as well as
wbinfo -g returning my domain groups. getent

Samba Domain Controller Help
Hi I am trying to setup a Domain controller on my home network for
testing and I am running into a bit of a problem.
Everytime I try to authenticate to the domain I get refused. I have
completely read the domain controller how-to that is supplied with Samba
2.28. I follow all of the directions and still nothing. When I attempt
to authenticate though it tells me that I don't have the right

Login Scripts in LDAP
Hi !
I use Samba with OpenLDAP. The Samba users information are
keept in LDAP. I'd like to keep the login scripts in LDAP.
Something knows how can I do this ? And how Samba would read the
login scripts in LDAP and not in netlogon directory ?
Thanks,
Bruno Stella

Can u prevent a macintosh from leaving it's of trash files on the shares?
I recently installed DAVE on two of the office Macintoshes.
(running 0S9.2 and OS8.6)(DAVE is mac to windows(samba) filesharing
utility)
I use SAMBA from the testing version of DEBIAN.
The mac's leave alot of files on the shares that i find annoying.
Is there a method I could use to prevent the mac from leaving it's
"trash". (filname filtering perhaps)

logon script to adjust time on workstation
Hey everyone,
I have what I think is a fairly simple question. In the logon script
for users, I have it set to map some drives and set the time on the
user's workstation, all Win2K machines. Now, shy of putting everyone in
the Administrator's group, how can I have it set the time on that
machine? It only successfully works when myself or the other
administrator log on to a machine

Winxp netlogon script
Hi all,
I am having problems running a logon script from a Winxp pro client. It
appears that the logon script is not being run at all. Win98 runs the
script fine, but none of the Winxp pro clients are currently running it.
I am running RedHat 7.1 with Samba version 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix.
My smb.conf is as follows:
[global]
netbios name = LOKKI
server string = Lokki PDC

histogram
Hi all,
I have a question about hist()
1)
> t1 <- hist(c(1,2,3,4,5))
> t1
$breaks
[1] 1 2 3 4 5
$counts
[1] 2 1 1 1
why is there 2 counts for 1? And should the counts be '1 1 1 1 1' ?
Is there any other function to count frequency of discrete data?
Thanks.

changing macintosh type and creator codes
Anytime a PC on our network copies a file to our server and a macintosh
client
goes to view that file, the type and creator codes are incorrect. We are
running
Samba for Windows clients and Xinet KA-Share for Mac clients. I think it
has
something to do with the resource forks. I can copy a file to the server
from a
Mac then copy the file from the server to a windows machine and back again

macintosh file clutter on samba filesystems.
I have a client who has a bunch of macs accessing some samba shares, and
they write these ._filename and .DS_STORE files all over the place, he
would perfer it to not write these files at all. Anyone ran into this
issue? what would be the best way to prevent these files from getting
written onto the shares? veto?

No Getent
Using winbind for authentication through PDC.
Problem: Some users do not get access to the samba share and some do.
When I do "wbinfo -u" the users who cannot access show up but when I do
"getent passwd", they are not there. What does this mean?
