ShowMessage (second attempt)
Surely someone out there knows how to notify their Windows users that access to their samba server is going to be terminated.... Any help will be *greatly* appreciated. ------ Original Message ------- I would like to shut down samba before I begin my backup routine. Before I do this, I would like to send a message to the users who are logged in on their Windows machines, asking them to log

Automated printer driver problems
Hi, I am having a problem with automating the download of printer drivers from a Samba 2.2.8 server. We used to use the server with he following options set: use client driver = yes disable spoolss = yes However these options have now been removed from smb.conf. Following the instructions available in printer_driver2.htm (supplied in docs/htmldocs in the source), I can add a printer driver to

How do I upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8
Samba List Serve Users: Is there a document or web link that follow that describes the steps to upgrade Samba from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8? The documentation on samba.org the I have read assumes that the install is a fresh install and not an upgrade. Thanks so much, Mark Roth Systems Engineer Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Win9x login script drive mapping problem - addendum
As an addendum to my original message (copied below), I have tried a couple of things and have found the following: Running a one line login script, eg net use * \\server\share with an echo command produces the following output: The syntax is incorrect. For help, type NET USE /? at the command prompt. Yet running the same script one the machine as soon after login as possible results in he

Re: Win9x login script drive mapping problem - more info
Many thanks to those who have replied so far - still no luck unfortunately. It would appear that I was ni=ot quite specific enough in the original post re: the OS version I am using - it is Windows 98SE, NOT vanilla 98. As for the login script I am using, I tried originally with the NT/2K script I use for all the other machines (logical as they are all NT/2K!): #### Script starts here ####

Re: samba Digest, Vol 16, Issue 45
Yes, just make your changes and then wait a couple of minutes! Samba re-reads its config file every minute or so, as soon as changes are detected they are implemented! Re: Win9x login script problem - solved
Many thanks to everyone who replied to me with possible solutions to the problem I was having with drive mappings from login scripts under Windows 98SE. Adam Manock hit the nail on the head with his comments (see below) - it turned out to be exactly this. I was using Notepad to edit the login script, then using SSH to transfer the script to the server. SSH was 'helpfully' converting

Re: samba Digest, Vol 16, Issue 45
Hi Mike, You may need to create the netlogon folder in your Samba directory tree. Samba is installed on my servers in /usr/local/samba - netlogon is a subfolder of that, with scripts being a subfolder of the netlogon directory. My logon scripts are therefore in /usr/local/samba/netlogon/scripts and are owned by root.root, readable by all. Find your Samba directory and have a look for the

Re: Understanding Samba Shares
Steve, Here's how I got it all working: Create the directory you want to share (you've already done this bit), change the group ownership to be www-data and then chmod the folder 2775. You should end up with a folder whose group ownership is www-data and whose permissions are rwxrwsr-x, ie the setgid bit is set to cause files to be owned by the group www-data. Here's my share

Samba/Win_NT mapped drive problem
I am having a problem with Samba 2.2.2 mapped drives under Windows NT. Specifically, the problem is that users cannot either read directly from (by double-clicking on a file), nor directly write to the root of a mapped drive. Users CAN however create a folder in the root of their mapped drives and then read and write files to that folder okay, and can also copy files from the root of their

Bug: Dovecot index loosing sync with FTS despite "fts_autoindex = yes"
I think I'm progressing: if I create a brand new user, send her an email, it will not be indexed right away. I need to doveadm rescan / index the Inbox before. At the end of this email, a dovecot's debug log snipset (grep'ed on this user). In it I can read: "Debug: fts: Indexes disabled for namespace '' Can this be a problem ? Thanks doveconf -n output: # 2.2.34

That message is coming from the temporary raw user, not from the actual user. How did you verify that the FTS indexes are not created or updated automatically? Bug: Dovecot index loosing sync with FTS despite "fts_autoindex = yes"
dovecot 2.2.34 solr 7.2 I only see new messages after typing on the server "doveadm fts rescan -u username" though I've followed the wiki and added "fts_autoindex = yes" in 90-plugin.conf . Subsequent search for the same pattern always gives the same result, ignoring new emails with that particular pattern. Solr is working correctly and the correct search results comes

Bizarre permissions problem
Help! I have been using dovecot for some years with great success. A little while ago, I changed my mail server from Fedora to CentOS linux. I reinstalled dovecot, and *almost* everything seems to be working, but one thing. There's *one* user I can't get it to work on without a workaround. The user is "newuser" and the uid is 1111 (actual name and number changed to protect

Problem adding new users after upgrade to 3.4.0
After upgrading to 3.4.0, I can no longer add new users. Any users that were added beforehand work fine. Any users that I attempt to create cannot login (error: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE). I was able to get one new user account to work (see below), but I cannot add any new users. The server is Ubuntu 9.10 running Samba 3.4.0. I am using: security = user pam password change = yes Updating

wbinfo -i output different before 1st authentication
Dear all, on CentOs7 based linux w. different versions of Samba (4.6.x from CentOS repos, but also Sernet-Samba-4.7.4 and also compiled from source), "wbinfo -i user at domain.tld" returns different results before the first successful authentication of the user. Server joined as member to Active Directory, idmapping via tdb2. On first attempt, the result returns

LDAP Authentication - Home Directory Creation
How does everyone handle this case? Users are authenticated by LDAP, and do not have accounts on the IMAP/dovecot server. When a new user is added to LDAP, the home directory (/home/newuser) needs to be created on the IMAP/dovecot server so dovecot can create the mail directories inside it (/home/newuser/mail/). Obviously I can come up with a few custom solutions, utilizing cron, but I feel
